Product Summary:

Ships to Canada
Best Friend® Deluxe Grazing Muzzles are recommended by equine health professionals to prevent, as well as treat, laminitis, founder, obesity, colic and other diet-related diseases. The small opening in the bottom allows horses a limited amount of grass, yet unlimited water. Rather than being restricted to a non-grass environment to control intake, horses are free to exercise and socialize as part of the herd.  A combination grazing muzzle and breakaway halter all in one, the design utilizes a plastic side-release buckles as it's breakaway feature.  Each Deluxe muzzle comes with a spare buckle that can be easily attached in the field.

To use, adjust The Best Friend®  Deluxe Grazing Muzzle to the horse using the same principles as the fit of a comfortable halter. Leave approximately one inch between the horse's mouth and the inside of the muzzle. The Deluxe muzzle has a roomy fit to allow for chewing. You should be able to fit two to three fingers sideways between your horse's face and the muzzle. This is our most popular design because it is so easy to use and costs less than purchasing a separate breakaway halter.

The rubber bottom in the grazing muzzle is approx. 1/4" thick.

  • Your horse is happier as a result of not being kept away from both his grass and his outdoor buddies.
  • Your horse can get the required exercise. (The average horse covers one mile per hour while grazing.)
  • Disease prevention is easier and less expensive than a visit by the vet.
  • All synthetic materials make it lightweight, rot resistant and well-ventilated.
  • Padded noseband helps resist rubbing and chafing.
  • Most durable, comfortable and safest grazing muzzle available.
  • Recommended by John Lyon’s Perfect Horse and The Horse Journal.
  • Reduces bedding bill and stall-cleaning time.
  • You have peace of mind knowing your horse is happier and healthier.

It Works Better Than I Thought!, 7/9/2012

gamingirl44 from Columbia, PA

My vet recommended the Best Friend Deluxe Grazing Muzzle because it was the best one on the market. We had to widen the hole more because my miniature wasn't getting any grass at all, but now she is getting some but not near as much as she would without the muzzle on. Some people say that the muzzle rubs the hair off on their horses, but our muzzle fits my miniature perfectly. She only wears it for about 4 hours in the morning every day and she never had any problems with it. She drinks out of it just fine, and it's a really great product. I just wish it was a little cheaper...

Best I've found, 1/13/2011

rowdygirl from Ada, Mi

This muzzle is the best I have found to prevent overgrazing/founder during prime grass season. My horses have enlarged the hole at the bottom by season's end, however and I would like to find a way to pad the chin area to prevent abrasions. Small complaints compared to saving my horse and burro from founder.

great product, 8/17/2010

Michele from

Have used this product for about three years on my mare. Have had to buy a new one every year because they wear out and the hole gets bigger. She adjusted to it with no problems. It really serves the purpose! She can be outside and graze, but not overeat!

O.K., but could be better, 8/3/2010

Doug Jimerson from

Bought two of these last spring and they worked o.k. and one horse has actually lost about 100 pounds. But, the product itself could be made better. The plastic fittings have broken on my first set. Also, it would be nice if they came in colors other than black. When they get rubbed off the horse, which has happened with mine a lot, it's very difficult to find them again in a large pasture with tall grass. Overall, it's a necessary product for me and works, but could be improved in a number of ways. It also leaves black marks on the muzzles of both horses. So, right now, it's a necessary evil I'll have to pay for until a better grazing muzzle becomes available.

rubbing, 5/24/2010

melanie brooks from

love the muzzle and it is working great but I've noticed it is rubbing the hair off my horse's nose and under his jaws. Any ideas on how to stop this

Pretty neat!, 6/8/2009

Rose Ann Sabaka from Marriottsville, MD

I'm not sure how he gets any grass but he's had it on over a week when he goes out at night and it's still in one piece. My gelding has Cushing disease and if this keeps him from foundering...GREAT!

Just OK - nothing more, 5/19/2009

Liv from Norway

My horse definately doesen´t like it - but that was also kind of the general idea.. It restricts his grazing, but I think the product could have been made better. It works, but It´s a compromise..

Great!, 4/27/2009

Kristina from Connecticut

My mare developed a bad wood chewing habit and everything I tried wouldnt get her to stop. I decided to try the grazing muzzle and now she cannot chew the wood anymore. She has not been able to shake it off and the muzzle is still in tact. I would definitely recommend anyone who has wood chewers to try it. I am very pleased with the product. It was very well made as well.

not so great from PA

I like this product but it is cheaply made. My horse busted the nylon after 2 days and the entire product needed to be replaced. I have bought 3 so far which is very expensive! I wish they would make a product that was more durable.

Saving Grace, 3/23/2009

Nancy Joy from Iowa

I have used this grazing muzzle for over six years for my precushings appaloosa, Kola. It took him a few days to adjust in the beginning but now he understands that when the grass turns green in the spring, on goes the muzzle or he stays in. It works like a charm. Kols looses weight and still gets to hang out with his buddies...no foundering at all. I am happy for that and appreciate it. I buy a news mask every other year just because the hole gets too big. The muzzzle and halter are very durable and adjustable. the sturdy quality and eginrering involved

Great Product, 3/11/2009

Donna from Tennessee

I have a horse that founders when she eats too much grass. This product helps regulate her grass intake and keeps her from foundering. Last year was the first time I used it and it was wonderful. She could still eat and drink. It saved a lot of pain and vet bills.
