I love this product! It is so affordable, and is durable. I like that it doesn't have the ear part, because when I bought my horse, she was abused and hated her ears being touched, so it makes it alot easier for me and my horse to get it on!!

Got tired of spending $$$ for masks that don't last half the season. I got 3 for my mare who wears them year round. Two lasted for three years and gave the 3rd one to my new gelding. Definitely buying more!

I decided to give these a try on the basis of price. They are fine in every way except one, which is a rather important attribute: size of ear opening. I purchased small. A small headed horse does not necessarily have ears that are super close together! I would think this to be beyond obviouse. The ear opening is too small to accomidate the position of my mare's ears. The rest of it fit fine. Mass production of products from China is fine, but not paying attention to a given product's intended purpose renders them...junk.

Loved the look, fit and feel but both my large quater horses (size LG) had these masks off in no time... If company redisgned strape with double velcro overlay I would re-purchase and by several more as gifts.

I have ordered the defender before. First when they were yellow with green trim, then gray with black trim. Both were very nice products and fit well. I have ordered 2 of the gray with navy trim thinking the first was cut wrong only to have the same problem with the ear opening. I have Arabians with little ears and yet the medium is to tight around the ears. The rest of the mask fits fine. I have read this in other reviews so I am curious why you do not fix the problem.

The price should have told me all I needed to know. The constrution seemed to be fine. The quality of the fabrics also seemed to be fine. However, the fit left a lot to be desired. I was especially concerned about the fit around the eyes. The fabric was laying right over the eye orb. There is no dart to keep the mask away from the eyes. The open top doesn't fit across the brow. It doesn't lie flat, it bulges. Overall, the fit is very strange. I've never had a problem with masks in my 45 years in the horse industry!

Bought this for all three of my horses; its been about 1 week and they have yet to figure out how to get them off. (They always get out of Halter). They fit great; however they do run large. The large fits my horse who has a head like a draft horse. I just ordered more to keep around for extra's. Quality for the price is awesome.

I got lucky in choosing this brand fly mask. Having minimal knowlege of horse accessories as a new owner I have found this item to be very durable. I purchased without ear style which is easily placed. The velcro closures are wide and it stays in place. My horse rubs and rolls in this mask without incident. It washes well by hose pressure.
I have a Morgan and his head is smaller than Quarter horse so I purchased Small which fits perfectly.
I will be buying a couple more to have on hand!

The braided edge is much better. The fleece always got filled with burrs that rubbed the horses. I adjust the 1st jaw strap a bit tighter and leave the lower one looser to avoid the nose rubbing problem.

This stayed on 3 days and was taken off. All other fly masks are "found" in the mud in the paddock. It fits well. Stays on. Also it appears to stand out, well away from the eye area.

I bought the small and medium to see which one would fit my Tennessee Walkers. The medium was the best fit as far as length and width, but the ear opening was too small. I also did not like the binding material used, as it rubbed the hair off my one horse on the side. It was not too tight, it was the material. I have returned the unused ones and gave the other one away.

Original fleece edges were fine... and for the money, these were the best fly masks on the market UNTIL... the new stiff fabric edges rub the hide off the horses' noses. One started a skin infection that took 4 months to cure.
If it wasn't "broke", why'd they "fix" it???

These are not by any means the best fly masks on the market, but for the price they get the job done. I for instance have 4 horses and can not bring myself to pay 15-20 per fly mask just to walk out the next morning and find at least half of them on the ground. I have been using defender fly masks for years with no issues. The only thing I suggest, is for the best fit go with the ones with ears and then cut the ear mesh out. They tend to fit horses with smaller heads the best. Hope this helps.

I LOVE this mask. The price beats any in the stores or on any other website, and so does the quality! The material is durable, and I LOVE the double velcro closures. Every one that is $25 only has 1 strap- this has two! It helped it stay on when my the horses the next pasture over kept trying to rip it off his face. I used it every day the whole summer, and by the end of it it was pretty filthy and the velcro was fraying, but I could have used it another season if I washed it and added a few stitches on the bands.
Love this mask, would recommend for sure!

I bought this fly mask in the summer of '09 and it is still great! When I bought my horse it was my first and I didn't really know what to buy and the previous owners said that he DESTROYS fly masks. Well this one was up to the challenge for 5 dollars and won! Great product! But the fleece on the nose started to rub of the hair on my horses nose but i just but some more fleece on and its great!

I won't even try this mask now. I have bought countless Defender masks with the soft fleece edging and I have loved the durability of the mask. I wash the mask whenever I bath my horse, and it holds up very well. It's a great design with the 2 closure tabs, too. Can't go for the cloth edges. No more orders from me.

I LOVE this fly mask!!! T sizing was good and i have had this on my 35 year old horse and he loves it! the only thing was he caught one of the ears on a tree and it now has a rip in it, but i think it can be easily fixed with some string. It is kept on most days throughout the week night and day and i have never had to readjust or go searching for it!

I really like the Defender Fly Masks--because I have 7 horses, I've used quite a few of them, and they've lasted through two fly seasons, even with abuse...impressive!! Farnam's masks are well over twice the money and the quality is comparable. The only disadvantage is the latch--too easy for other horses to pull off of the horse that is wearing it. Wish it was a double-latch system like the Farnam mask. For the price, though, can't have it all! Definitely recommend this product.

The trim on the fly masks rubbed the hair off the horses. It's stiff, not like the fuzzy trim from the last years. The stitching is coming undone after just a couple weeks of use. One of my horses had an alergic reaction to the material. Not the manufacturers fault, but wish they had stuck with what worked! I won't buy them next year.

I thought the mask fit well and was soft enough, but it has expandability (stretchy) where it attaches so my horses can rub them right off.

Defender masks are wonderful! They save me a fortune every year. I do prefer something softer against my "kids" faces than the fabric Defender has chosen; however, without the fleece they don't sweat as much around the ears and nose. I keep the masks clean & rinse them with a good fabric softener, and have never experienced any rubs or baldness on their faces. My horses enjoy ripping each others masks off, so these are very cost effective for me. Thank you for continuing to sell an affordable, yet still good quality product. I seldom see the two combined.

disapointed with these new ones from rochester, MN
The old style silver/black with the black fuzzy fleece trim that kept horses hair from being rubbed off their tender noses.
Why Defender had to change to this green mask with the hard nylon trim is beyond me. It rubs the hair of horses noses. I will not buy these. Please go back to the silver mask with black fleece trim ASAP.
