Wonderful pad. A world of difference in this pad and my old pad. Extremely comfortable on trail rides.

Needed a pad that fit better and relieved pressure on the withers. Horse seems happier with it.

I picked this pad because i have a small horse and i worry about her restricted shoulder movement. the saddle is the best fitting saddle i have ever found for her, but i needed to invest in a saddle pad that can contribute to her comfort even more. i hope it works!

I have a 19 yr. old QH. He's well built but body is changing. Rather high withers and back is starting to sway. Would thus pad be a good choice?

Best Answer: I own this pad and it's a great pad, but I don't think this is the answer to your problem. I have a horse that has a bit of a sway back, and I bought the Cashel swayback pad. It works great. Here is a link.

Are the front shim pockets big enough to hold 2 or 3 of the shims if needed?
Sylvia P on Oct 23, 2015
Best Answer: Hi, Yes the pockets are big enough to hold at least 2 shims. I had to try different configurations to see what worked best for my boy, but with this pad I can use my western saddle with no problems. Bettie

I found this in our local tack store but it is 1/2" wool. Is the 1" with the shims or is this a different pad?
KYLIE H on Jul 16, 2015
Best Answer: I bought this exact pad from State Line. I just measured mine and the pad itself is a full 1" in thick. The shim pads are 3/8th inch thick, for a total of 1 3/8" thick in the shimmed area. It's a heavy duty pad. The one you found elsewhere is either a different pad or a cheaper version. Hope this helps.

My horse has low withers (almost mutton) and a high rise to his rump. I use wool felt, but get 2 dry spots behind his shoulder on both sides. My saddle fits and doesn't seem to bother him. would I take out the front and back shims and leave the middle ? I have the Chiropractor 1x a month to fix the same L5 right and left

Best Answer: Hello, I can not say for sure that would help with saddle fit etc. but I really like this pad since it does have the removable felt inserts. This pad has held up with lots of use and washing. I would talk with a saddle fitter for confirmation.
