how do you keep it from going to far into the horses rectum?
A shopper on Dec 18, 2015
Best Answer: That's the bad drawback to these. You have to have a horse that's calm enough to allow you to hold onto it with your fingers. One of my vets still uses the old style where you can tie a string on the loop, but he thought he lost it when a horse struggled. So if you keep hold of it, you should be able to pull it out if necessary.
What I do, lube with some vaseline, gently insert just the tip, allow the horse to relax after he feels it, then push it further. You'll still have enough to hold on to. Hope this helps.

How large is this thermometer - how long?
Janet P on Jun 24, 2014
Best Answer: The thermometer is the same length as a pen, 5 inches or so I would guess. I have not measured it.
