Sturdy well made boot at fair price.

I am an archaeologist - I need comfortable boots that will hold up to countless miles of walking on survey and kicking a shovel during excavation projects. Over the last 35 years I think I've tried every kind of boot there is - and these are so fabulous that I just bought a second pair so that, when the inevitable happens and the first pair wears out, I'll have a back up.

can you wear a half chap with these boots?
jessica m on Dec 9, 2015
Best Answer: Jessica----I don't wear chaps.....but I've looked on-line at photos of half-chaps, and it looks to me that YES, you could wear half-chaps with these boots. I say that because the boots hug your ankle, are form fitting, coming up your leg to about three inches or so above your ankle bone. From what I can tell from the photos I see of half-chaps, the chaps would fit over top the ankle portion of these boots with no problem (unless the chaps were unusually narrow at the ankle---but it looks like chaps usually flare out to fit over the foot, so should not be a problem). I've been very happy with these boots (previously I had worn only Ariat boots). These boots are very comfortable and they have a zipper on the side (which is also new to me and I wasn't sure I was going to like) that I've come to really love. I laced the boots up one time to get a good fit, and since then I've been taking them on/off using the zipper on the side and I find that extremely convenient. I've found them to be water-resistant, but if you cross a creek and stand in the water for any length of time, your socks will get the boots are not water-proof. The heel is perfect for riding. They are sturdy boots and the soles are rugged but not overly bulky. I've found them to be a nice boot overall.

How warm are they?
Pa, K on Oct 25, 2013
Best Answer: Warm enough, however, it's not that cold here yet. They are roomy enough to wear heavy socks when it gets colder. I'm a mountain trail rider so I have tapaderos on my stirrups where I could put foot warmers if needed.
They are super comfortable, so I'll probably wear them out and would definitely order another pair.

how water proof are they?
mary ann e on May 20, 2015
Best Answer: I haven't really put them to any extreme tests. My feet have stayed dry in them. I just love them. I did put a small key ring on the zipper pull to make it easier to zip them up.

Is this boot a good riding boot? It looks a little heavy, but also, it might be good and supportive.
Hope H on Sep 18, 2013
Best Answer: I'm not sure (yet). I sent my size 7.5 back for a size 7. They ran a bit wide and felt large. They did not however, feel heavy. I do love the look if them and the shaft was really comfortable so I'll let you know more when I actually get to use them.
