Are these heaters connected to a battery or have an electric plug so needs to plug into a socket?
Kayo52 on Sep 7, 2015
Best Answer: It has an electric plug so you need to have an outlet nearby (or run an extension cord). After a year or two of going the extension cord route, my brother ran a conduit pipe from the GFI outlet on my barn along the bottom rail of my fence and put an outlet box at the end of it.

Does this screw into the plug spot of a Rubbermaid water tank?
Cheri D on Sep 8, 2015
Best Answer: Hi! I bought this product last season, and yes, it plugs into the drain of a Rubbermaid water tank. It's easy to use and I haven't had any trouble. On some of the de-icers, you have to remove the trim in the plug by unscrewing it, but in some you don't. I can't remember which this one does, but either way, it was super easy to install!

`what temperature does it keep the water? It says thermostatically controlled to operate when necessary, so does it keep it just above freezing?. Do you know how many kilowatts it uses and the approximate cost it will add to the electric bill?
KJ C on Jan 10, 2016
Best Answer: The de-icer definitely keeps the water from freezing. I love mine and have used one for 12 years. I'm sorry I've never used a thermometer to test the temperature so I can't say exactly what the temperature is. I know water in my heated buckets in the barn feels warmer than out of the faucet but buckets are only 5 gallons. My box says 1500 watts of power/12.5 amps. It will add to your electric bill in a very cold winter (I'm in NY). but is definitely worth it.

Dstates unit is completely hidden from animal. I do not see a cover for it. How is it hidden?
Diane S on Jan 28, 2014
Best Answer: It isn't hidden but is at the very bottom of the tank where the drain plug is. Horses never bothered with it. My first one lasted over 10 years and probably would have lasted longer if I removed it every summer. I have very hard water and got white hard scale on it, which I then tried to scrape off. It still worked great.

I bought 2 of these and 1 worked great all winter and the other 1 crumbled. I reported this but never received a replacement. How would I get a replacement for the defective unit?
Gina G on Sep 8, 2015
