Rated 5 out of 5 by The Best Have been using it for years, hardly ever have any flies. September 8, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by it works... I decided to use this product to cut down on flies around my house..i hate flies in the house..big pet peeve! I use this daily...starting in the early spring & stopping in the fall. Ive been using it for about 3 yrs. It worked great on my gelding...flies didnt even hang on him. On my new mare i just got in the winter...shes swarmed with flies, but i think it still cuts down on flies reproducing. I will probably try another brand when this runs out just to see if i get a different reaction. June 26, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by same as Simplifly with Larvastop This products does work in reducing insect population. Equitrol II and Simplifly with Larvastop are the same thing with the same dosing size so go with wichever is cheaper at the time. March 15, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Equitrol Happy with product. Have not had to tax additional steps for fly control. (Other than fly mask) We feed it before morning mash to ensure that they get the full dose. July 13, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by equitrol I have used equitrol for over 10 years, and it works great, I have used it also on pregant mares. I would recommend it to everyone. October 4, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by equitrol One year I skipped using Equitrol. As a result, I had to spend much more on fly sprays than usual. My fly problem was disastrous!! I will never bypass equitrol again as part of my fly control system. April 29, 2009

I board my horse. Do all the horses have to been on this product for it to work properly?
syenzo on Apr 28, 2014
Best Answer: Well, I'm no entomologist, but if your horse is the only one getting the fly control product at a boarding facility it only makes sense that your horse will be affected by the flies from the surrounding horses. Whenever I use any product, all of my horses get it. The flies don't know not to attack your horse from any other with this type of product. Feed thru products stop the flies before they develop and don't control mature flies. Topical sprays will control (for a short time) mature flies.

But if you can get the other owners to use a product, Equitrol works well.

Hope this helps.

With the drought here in California, is it too late to start using this to help cut down the flys?
A shopper on May 29, 2015
Best Answer: No, it will help because it prevents the larvae from maturing in the manure. It also depends on how many neighbors you have with livestock. If you are fairly isolated, it really works well. Otherwise, it will only cut down fly populations slightly. Pick up manure daily and compost it under black plastic to prevent attracting flies in the first place. I am isolated and I have noticed a big difference. I have used it for about 5 years.

Is this product safe for mares that are pregnant?
Judy Ann r on Jan 11, 2014
Best Answer: It is supposed to be, but I have found no studies that support its safety in mares and foals. There are studies of Solitude, which support the safety of its chemical in pregnant mares.

Bottom line, however: if your mare is pregnant, you are better off NOT exposing her to more chemicals than absolutely necessary. I'd suggest a good fly sheet with a bellyband, fly mask with ears, and lots of manure clean-up!
