Why did you choose this?
Statelinetack.com Store
Because I love the color and that it comes with matching stirrups leathers and a girth so I do not have to search afterward to find some that match.

Selected 17 inch NOT 17.5 inch -- wide is correct. Please make sure CORRECT SIZE is sent. Christmas gift based on daughter's wish list -- but viewed the comments made and was pleased to hear so many good reviews.

can it be used for flat work?
Jenny on Mar 15, 2014
Best Answer: Great question!!! I have found that close contact saddles are great for flat work. Your horse feels that contact more and I've found I don't have to use as much leg or seat for the horse to respond.

I am looking to buy my first saddle, and I was wondering if this would be a good fit. For a stocky-er Appaloosa would the wide tree be best for him? Is the saddle good quality? I don't compete right now, and If I were to compete it would be flatwork. Would you recommend this saddle?
Ellie B on Mar 3, 2014
Best Answer: On this issue... each horse is built differently. It depends on a lot of variables i.e. low withers, high withers.. back width, etc. I have a thoroughbred off the track and this saddle works perfect for her. On a broader backed horse, I think this might be a bit "tight". That will in turn cause him pain, as the saddle will not fit the shape of his back properly.

I currently lease an off track Thoroughbred who still needs a little work on his hunter work. I like to work with flat on him, trails, and jumping. Would you recommend I buy the Wide or Regular? (I like a saddle that almost fits me snug)
Cheyenne M on Nov 16, 2013
Best Answer: "Regular" and "wide" usually refer to the tree width, and have nothing to do with how snugly you fit in a saddle. You have to determine whether the horse needs a regular width tree, wide width tree, or a narrow tree. If you like security, you may look for a saddle with padded flaps, knee rolls, thigh rolls, and suede on the flaps and/or seat. I wouldn't recommend a small seat size on an English saddle because there really isn't enough parts to squeeze between (i.e., there isn't a swell like on a western saddle). Even with a western saddle, I don't recommend riding in a seat that is too small.

Does it come with the irons?
Caitlin C on Mar 1, 2014
Best Answer: Yes you get 4.5 inch irons, 54 inch stirrup leathers, and a 48 inch girth along with the saddle.

are the stirrup leathers good?
saddle on Nov 10, 2013
Best Answer: The stirrup leathers are in good condition. The outside that you see is leather, whereas the inside is stitched with a nylon substance, but they seem to be holding up to good wear and tear. One thing though, if it bugs you, the leather on the stirrup leathers does NOT match the saddle - it is MUCH darker. Some people sent in a complaint to the company and got lighter leathers, but I kept mine as it didn't really bugged me and you can barely see them when you ride (your leg is covering them up). The saddle overall is a good saddle, this is my first English saddle and it has been a great one! The girth did not fit my 16.3 hh Quarter Horse, so make sure this one will fit your horse - if not, make sure to order another one.

it says that it comes with a girth but It doesn't let me tell them what size girth I need for my horse?
A shopper on Dec 26, 2014
Best Answer: The girth has elastic connections on both ends, so it should be able to adjust to your horse. If not, extenders are available for purchase as well, but I would wait to see if they are necessary. We are using this saddle on a 15.3 hands Quarterhorse who is actively exercised with healthy weight, and no extenders are needed. We are able to hook into the second or third hole from the bottom on both sides, depending on the season.
