Product Summary:

Merial® UlcerGard®

To help prevent an outbreak of ulcers you can feed your horse UlcerGard. Ulcers are caused by radicals fluttering in the horse’s body.  Clinical symptoms of stomach ulcers include:  poor appetite, loose stools, poor coat and performance. Omeprazole, the main ingredient in UlcerGard for horses, suppresses acid production, stopping pain and discomfort before they occur. Just 1mg/kg of omeprazole per day for 28 days effectively prevents the onset of ulcers in horses exposed to stressful conditions.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. My mare's mom and full sister suffer from ulcers. I want to protect my mare from this affliction when I stress her out by taking her to shows.

How long does it take before you see beneficial results?

Best Answer: I use this product for my mare's protection prior to stressful situations such as trailering, showing, etc. This helps to guard her stomach from developing ulcers, and had produced a more relaxed mare. A friend of mine had a horse with ulcers, and this medication helped him in about a weeks time. I guess it would depend on the condition of the horse's stomach prior to treatment. A bad ulcer may take longer to heal, obviously. I use a slow feeder ( very small opening hay net ) for my mare's hay, and constantly keep hay in front of her. This helps her stomach lining as well. Horses are meant to graze and forage, and so do best outside, active, and allowed to eat frequent, small meals. She also is fed probiotics to help her digest, and this helps her to digest her food well. As you know, a horse's digestive health is extremely important to their overall condition, so keep close tabs on what/when/how your horse is fed.
