Once again, Mikmar founder Frank Evans has designed a bit that offers superior control and highly individualized interaction between rider and horse. The Mikmar Short Shank is extremely popular among English and Western disciplines as well as driving. It comes with a leather curb strap or curb chain, and a choice of Mikmar mouthpieces. The two areas for rein placement offer two different feels: the upper rein slot allows more direct pressure, like a snaffle, while the lower rein slot acts as a leverage bit, applying pressure to the mouth (bars and tongue), chin and poll areas, and enhancing vertical flexion. Choose which placement you like for each ride, making it a new experience each time.

The Short Shank can also be used with double reins or a single rein alone, or a single rein with a converter. Because it has less leverage than the Mikmar Combination Bit and does not have the nose rope, the Short Shank offers more direct communication between rider and horse as well as great versatility. The specialized mouthpieces ensure customized design for each horse-trainer team.

The Mikmar Low Port Mouthpiece is similar to the standard Mikmar Bit, only with a lower port of 3/4 inch in height. Because of the lower port, there is less palate pressure than with the standard.
