We have two on the ranch in operation at all times. We fence a 39 acre field with one and a nasty water gap that goes out often with the other. After 25 years we are just now replacing our first original charger. Very reliable, good price from state line. Batteries are not easy to find and will need to be replaced in a 2 to 4 year time frame. You must order on line or go to a Batteries Plus--at least in Texas--- but well worth the hassle for the service you get from the charger. Tractor Supply does not carry this line of battery. Very Good Product for the $.

For those of us who live in Florida and who endure power outages with some duration and frequency, these solar chargers are the way to go! You do have to replace the battery every couple of years. But for ~$30, that's not a bad deal. And it sure beats having the fence not charged when the "kids" decide to test it. Keeps our horses in without any problems.

Rated by 2 out of 5 Tommy White too expensive for no better coverage
I used this product for about 5 years the first year was good very few issue then after that it seemed like it never worked right. I replaced the backup battery a couple of time which was expensive. I finally give up and went with something more dependable. Too much money for sketchy service.

What a quality product. Very impressed with heavy duty case. My horse is very disrespectful of the electric tape but not anymore. Plenty of power with more than most of the other solar shockers.

My daughter’s younger horse and the mares that graze in the pasture next to her like to chase each other next to the tempery fence that runs between their pastures leading to the fence getting knocked down frequently and my daughter’s horse was always blamed. The solar charger which powers is not able to provide enough charge to keep the horses from getting too close to the fence. My daughter’s two horses got banished to a small area by the barn owner. I approached her with an offer to replace the charger if my daughter horses were returned to their pasture. I bought a new battery for the charger and quickly discovered that the issue was not the charger itself. The problem was the charger was expected to power several ajoining pastures where the fences were the wire was spliced together causing the fence to quickly lose current. My local farmers supply recommend the Parmak Deluxe as the best product on the market. I researched several fence chargers on the internet and many of the competing products received mixed or poor reviews. I was surprised that I could not find a single review reporting a bad experience with the Parmak Deluxe. I then researched the best price and found State Line had the best price and the lowest shipping charge. The highest price for the Parmak Deluxe is still lower than the competing brand’s that only covers 10 miles to the Deluxe’s 25. I paid 25% less than my local farmers supply store with shipping included. The shipping was quick and I was surprised today when the unit arrived with a fully charged battery allowing me to put it in to service today. I hooked it up to the fence and it easly over came the issues with the fence. The meter on the face of the charger is great. Thanks to the Parmak Deluxe my daughter’s horses will be returning to their sunny pasture in the morning.

We have just ordered our third of these charges as we add on new sections of fence. We bought our first one three years ago and it is still going strong! These are economical and very durable.

We got it on clearance for $60 when our local farm supply store went under... if we knew what a value it was we would've bought all 3 of them! It's never let us down and always packs quite the punch. We had a tree lean over in a storm and the fence charger still had a good charge, I was suprised! This is a great product.

Why did you choose this?
Hello, I want to install a hot wire on a wooden fence and have no experience. I am assuming this solar powered charger will works on a continuous loop meaning the wire will have to start and end in the charger. What else do I need other than the charger, wire, insulators, and some gate pieces?
Best Answer: The hot wire from the charger is a continuous strand (or strands in the case of a multi wire fence) and does not return to the charger. The black or ground lead goes to a grounding rod that is driven several feet into the ground in preferably damp soil in proximity to the fence. The circuit is completed by the animal standing on the ground making contact with the hot wire. The animal itself then completes the circuit. You will need a grounding rod (or rods depending on your soil). I have seen recommendations for up to three connected together about 8 feet apart. I just use one with my poultry netting. Any place that carries fencing supplies will have a grounding rod kit. Or you can just get the rod (or rods), clamp, and wire to connect it from any home improvement store in the electrical department. Other than that you need your hot wire, insulators to attach it to your poles, and gate pieces as you say.
how often is a charger added in line? Like I have 2 1/2 arcres how many would I need to install? I read you should install at 5", 10" 15" up to 30" hight, lines which would equal 7 lines of fencing, does each line need a charger?
Best Answer: Billy, lets see if I can help. First of all this is a fantastic charger! I would tell you why here, but alas, that is not your question. This charger is rated for 25 miles or, about 130,000 feet (single strand that is). so if you run 4 strands of wire around 1 acre your going to divide that 130,000 by 4, or 32,500 linear feet of 4 strand fencing.
Now, an acre is about 200 x 200 or 800 perimeter feet. Multiply that by the 4 strands ,and you get 3,200 linear feet of coverage. Since this charge will cover about 32,500 linear feet, you theoretically should be able to cover approx. 10 acres! Bottom line is that you should be VERY fine with 2-3 acres and this charger. As for one for each strand? No way, just charge one strand, and then "daisy chain" the others to each other and to the charged one. I have forgotten this critical step several times. Took forever to figure why the animals kept getting out. In any event, best of luck to you.
Is this charger strong enough to deter deer from a small garden?
Best Answer: Yes, it is. Personally I use this Solar Pack 6 French charger to keep critters away from my bee hives, though I personally recommend a product called Contech CRO101 Scarecrow Motion Activated Sprinkler for deer. I don't know whether Statelinetack carries the motion activated Contech.
What gauge electric wire is good for this product? Also how simple is the connection?
Best Answer: There are 2 "types" of electric wire that are used in the setup; the electric wire from the charger to the electric fence and the actual electric fence wire, which can be electric rope, electric tape (ribbon like product), or actual bare wire. The bare wire is relatively inexpensive, but my wife thinks it is too dangerous for horses. The recommended charger to electric fence wire is (of course) special high voltage (low amps) wire. I used the Zareba 12 1/2 gauge wire made specifically for that purpose. I use both electric rope and electric tape for our fences. The charger is attached to the electric rope, which in turn is spliced to an electric tape section. All the connections are quite simple, and it all works fine and there are various connectors to attach the charger wire to the electric rope or tape.. Very important is that you have a good grounding setup- (metal ground rods 6-8 feet long) driven into the ground and attached with the Zareba wire to the ground side of the charger, or your system will not work very well.
How may jules does it put out?
Best Answer: I think it puts out 1.2 Joules. It really packs a punch and seems just as strong as a hardwired electric fencer.
Is additional equipment needed to install this on a post?
Best Answer: Please see item# E015016, Parmak T-Post Solar Pak Mounting Bracket
how often do you have to replace the battery?
Best Answer: I'm sorry, the manufacturer does not provide that information. The battery does come with a warranty of a one year. For additional information, I'd suggest contacting Parmak directly at 1-800-662-1038.
