Product Summary:
For feed-through fly prevention and control of house and stable flies in and around horses, horse barns, stables, paddocks and race tracks. When mixed 1/2 oz. into a horse's ration daily according to the directions, will prevent house and stable fly development. Solitude IGR (cyromazine) is a non-organophosphate that has been safely used in horses since 2001 and undergone extensive research to prove its effectiveness and safety
  • Repeated studies show up to 100% efficacy in inhibiting larvae development.
  • Studies have proven it is 99.5% effective against stable flies and 100% effective against house flies with no effect on horses, other mammals or beneficial insects.
  • Significant results may be observed within 2 weeks but the full benefit should be realized within 4-6 weeks of administration as the adult populations die off.
  • Solitude IGR is intended for use only in equidae including horses, mules and donkeys.
  • Cyromazine, the active ingredient in Solitude IGR, is an insect growth regulator that works on the fly's chitin exoskeleton and is very species specific to house and stable flies. As the horse is fed cyromazine, it passes through the horse and is excreted in the manure. House flies and stable flies lay their eggs in the manure and the eggs subsequently hatch into the larval or maggot stage. (Cyromazine has no effect on the chitin of the adult fly.) As the maturing maggots feed on the manure treated with cyromazine, they become unable to successfully develop into adult flies because cyromazine inhibits the proper formation of chitin. The immature stage of the fly dies. Cyromazine has a well documented safety and efficacy profile. It has been extensively evaluated in horses since 2001 as well as intensely studied in other species for more than 20 years. Numerous environmental studies have documented cyromazine's safety for mammals including humans and horses, as well as birds, daphnia, minnows and other indicator species.
  • Once excreted, Solitude IGR breaks down to a melamine monomer, a slow release nitrogen fertilizer.
  • Greatly reduces the use of neurotoxic pesticide sprays and overhead fly systems creating a healthier environment for horses, staff and riders.

Administration:
Start feeding Solitude IGR early in the spring before flies begin to appear and continue feeding throughout the summer and into the fall until cold weather inhibits fly development. In some cases, supplemental fly control measures may be needed in and around paddocks and stables to control adult house flies and stable flies, which can breed not only in manure, but in other decaying vegetable matter or silage on premises.

Solitude IGR will provide a high degree of fly control and will give the best results when integrated with a well-managed fly control program which includes appropriate sanitary and management practices to reduce the number and size of fly breeding sites.

Dosage:
To maximize the effectiveness of Solitude IGR, horses must be fed individually. This product is to be fed top-dressed on grain or mixed with the horse's total ration to provide 300 mg (1 scoop) of cyromazine per horse per day.

Daily dosage: Using 1/2 oz. scoop supplied with the product, mix one (1) scoop of Solitude IGR in the horse's ration every day.

Warning: DO NOT CONTAMINATE WATER, FOOD, OR FEED BY STORAGE AND DISPOSAL. Wastes resulting from the use of this product may be disposed of on site or at an approved waste disposal facility. Harmful if inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Avoid breathing dust and contact with skin or clothing. May cause skin sensitization reactions in certain individuals. I've learned my lesson!, 10/6/2009
Amanda from Davie, Florida

I used this product for almost 2 years and ran out a couple months ago. I decided to try without and have noticed a huge increase in the fly population. The biggest thing I just came across was that I dispose of the manure into large plastic garbage cans and I opened the lid yesterday and there were thousands of developing fly larvae squiggling around all over the container. This has NEVER happened in the past so I have to figure that the Solitude had been doing an awesome job up until the time I ran out!

Very pleased with the results, 7/15/2009
K.Miller from Twentynine Palms CA

The flies are absolutely horrible in my area resulting in some huge vet bills last summer treating summer sores. I've used predators for the last two years but this year I added Solitude to my "fight." I started in Feb as we have a long fly season and I've had very few flies this year. Also, I've not had to use fly spray this year on my horses. I'm also still using predators but the Solitude has really made the difference. Will continue this "forever." Worth it even though it is a bit pricey. Another plus, my horses eat it by itself and wait for me to give it to them.

SolitudeIGR, 6/22/2009
PKA from Denton, TX

Excellent product -- have 27 horses and it is so simple to add to the feed. I use year round now to prevent even those flies that want to overwinter from getting a head start on me during warmer time of winter. Have used for 2 years and wont use anything other feed thru cause Solitude is so much safer and effective than the other feed thru products for all my horses. Solitude doesn't kill the beneficial insects and invertebrates like other fly products.

Rebate denied, 5/13/2009
from Hudsonville MI

The rebate form said the original UPC had to be included. The UPC was printed at the bottom of a very thin label on the tub. The only way to remove it in one piece would be to cut it out of the tub, which has a three month supply of product. I wrote the bar code number on the rebate form and explained the problem. Today I received a postcard saying the rebate was denied because the original UPC was not included. Very disappointing!

Great Fly Control Tool, 9/10/2008
from Placerville CA

I have four horses housed on somewhat small acreage and the city limits are creeping closer with every passing month. One border of my 2 acre large corral now looks out on the parking lot for a dentist office! Fly control is mandatory not only for horse health but also to prevent complaints so I started using Solitude IGR in conjunction with frequent manure clean up. We have very few flies in and around the area, and a reasonably low number of flies pestering the horses. I suspect the flies that are here were not even hatched here...but instead traveled over from a neighboring rubbish area not under our control. All in all a very good product provided you can afford to add it to the budget for fly control along with some topical sprays and fly masks. This is my third year using the product and the horses handle it just fine with no negative effects whatsoever. Thanks for helping us keep our horses fly free and our neighbors happy!

Essentially 100% fly free!, 8/19/2008
Sandra Warren from Brentwood, CA

I absolutely hate flies. I have tried sprays, traps, ointments, masks, fly predators, and Equitrol. Solitude works the best by far. With Equitrol, you can smell the pesticide in the manure, and that seems unsafe. Solitude works differently, not killing the flies but preventing them from developing into adulthood, and it is much safer. Sometimes I have to look around for 10 seconds to find a fly, and when I find a second one, I think it might be the first fly coming around again. I hand feed it individually to my horses in pasture every day. It takes me 15 minutes to do 22 horses, and I am fly free. Heaven!

Better the Fly Preditors!, 7/28/2008
Carol O'Byrne from Wallkill, NY

You can't compare this product to Fly Preditors as its 100 times better. I know as I've used Fly Preditors for 5 yrs. There are very few to no flies on my property now and my old horses are very calm out in pasture. I have a Bite Free fly sticky in my barn and that's it. No more flies in there. The difference between the amount of flies that I had last year to what I have now using Solitude is amazing!! I also use PDZ stall freshener which is good too. That's all that I've changed since last year. Fly Preditors have to be ordered when the weather is warm enough for them to live; however, Solitude can be given one month BEFORE the fly season starts and you nip the flies just as they start to come out because your manure has been treated. Get it, you will like it.

Solitude IGR, 7/21/2008
heather lanham from topanga, CA

I am so disappointed in this product, esp. in light of all the great reviews I have read and the rec. from my vet. I have used the product in two different situations for four months. One a backyard paddock w/two stalls & two horses that is meticulously maintained, and the next a show barn (stalls cleaned twice daily) where 16 (neighbors) were put on Solitude, also 4 months ago. All I have to do is show you the fly traps to know this has done nothing to curb the flies by any measure. Alas, the claims are just too good to be true.

Solitude Is Amazing, 6/30/2008
Dianne from Banks, OR

Weve been using Solitude for a couple of years. Love it! Were in a boarding situation and see a noticeable difference between the horses on Solitude and those who are not . . . certainly makes our horses and us a lot more comfortable every day! Wish it wasnt so expensive, but I guess were saving on fly spray and traps . . .

Solitude IGR, 4/10/2008
Lisa Griffis from Montgomery Texas

I have 2 Arabians and this is the second season for my use. No reactions or problems, the horses eat it and the flies are minimal, especially around the manure pile. I conjunction with topical products, you can't beat it!
