Too Long!, 4/7/2011

Shirl from York, PA

Great pad, but way too long for horse's back. Used on different horses, but always the same result. I do recommend the trail tacky too...seems a much more reasonable length & contoured better.

Sold it on Craigslist , 4/4/2011

Sue from NW

I had this in red. The color was nice, but that's about it. It was WAY too stiff and WAY too thick. Measuring it, i found it was more like 2" at the thickest part, and was also 32x34 not 32x32. It rubbed my horses, made the saddles stand up on their back, and ended up leaving dry spots in areas I didn't have them before. I tried to use it enough to break it in, but I ended up selling this pad on craigslist to a lady for her old Arab. Hopefully it worked for her, but I can't image how it was short enough...

Awsome product, 2/21/2011

Nicole from Castle Rock, CO

We bought this for our new team penning mare because the saddle we could use slid all over her. This pad completely took away all of those problems, and she seems to be more comfortable than ever! It took a little while to form to her and the saddle but once it did it fits like a glove! No sliding - but buyer beware, you have to give it a few rides to form to your horse before expecting miracles! Once it is though you'll never have a slide again! Love it.

Excellent pad for high withers, 2/14/2011

horselady from Prosperity SC

My horse has high withers and some pads rub him. Cut out pads do not provide enough protection from the saddle for him. This one prevents him from getting sore withers. It is a very large pad though, and he is small, so it is rather big on him.

Great for my Reining Horses, 9/20/2010

Jessie from

This pad has been awesome for all my reining horses. I had horses getting sore backs from all the work and when I put this on it put an end to it all they are more comfortable collecting and giving me better stops and spins. This is a great pad!!

Great saddlepad, 6/14/2010

Robin from

When I bought this pad I had a long backed QH, I currently have a short backed horse and with proper placement this saddle pad works well on the smaller horses too.

Very Nice Pad, 11/8/2009
Lynn C. from Metropolis, IL

I had researched extensively to find a good, thick pad for my 2yo Walking filly. She has a very prominent back bone. I wanted something that would provide protection for her and easy to clean. After thorough research and 'shopping', I chose this pad and am very glad I did. I fits her perfectly and works GREAT! It's thick enough to provide the protection she needs and is easy to clean. I love the tacky bottom to prevent slipping as well. I'm going to order another for my husband's 2yo. This is not recommended for short-backed horses. Best for long, lanky horses. I would highly recommend this pad!

my favorite pad, 10/28/2009

Molly from Castro Valley, CA

I have used this pad on all my horses since they were introduced. As a riding instructor and trainer, I ride many different horses, and these pads are comfortable on virtually everyone. I have not had any problem with chafing at the back with any horse, even the smaller ones. I make sure I center the pad under the saddle and place the saddle in the proper position, i.e., with 2 fingers between the elbow and the cinch. The price has been raised considerably, and it seems the pads wear down over the last year more quickly than before. I, too, would like to see the color choice that is available in the regular tacky two, and a hunter green one.

Great but not perfect, 10/7/2009
Teresa from Denver, CO

I've had this pad for just over a year now and it has held up remarkably well with weekly use. The suede top surface stays clean and bright and the tacky bottom still looks good too, although it has developed some small, permanent wrinkles where it bends down the center. That rubbery stuff is also kind of soft and I did gouge a small tear in it when trying to shove the pad onto a wooden saddle rack. The gold lettering on the wear plates has started to rub off too. I definitely agree with the other reviewers who've said that this pad is too long. It's WAY too long! It sticks out a good 5 inches behind my saddle skirts. I threw on a cantle bag to balance things out, but it still looks a little funny. No problems with rubbing from the back edge though. Also, I've got a TWH, and even with the high wither profile of this pad, it's not quite high enough. He carries his head really high (it's a TWH thing, you wouldn't understand!) and the front edge of the pad hits him in the back of the neck. It's tight there too... shouldn't you be able to get at least one finger under the pad at the withers? The edges of this pad are really stiff, so I can't bend it/pinch it or tweak it to give him a gap there. So I think my next pad will have a cutback at the withers.

Waste of Money! Buy the Reinsman Tacky Too Pad ins, 10/5/2009

from Ridgefield WA

This saddle pad wasn't at all what I was looking for. Several people recommended it to me for my barrel horse and sadly it was a waste. It's very stiff and the build up is way too thick. It stands up off her back because of the built up part and made her sore. It's also very long, longer than it says in the description which contributes to the rubbing. I would really reccomend the Tack Too saddle pad instead. I have one and LOVE it!! As for this saddle pad...my saddle rolls on a half arab that I'm training so I'll try it on her and maybe the build up will help with the rolling.

Light Riding Only, 9/21/2009

from

Very thick and well constructed. Long even for my long-backed horse and edges will rub. Pad was very stiff and took awhile to break-in. I think the pad would last a long time but I am looking for a new pad now because after just a short walk around the arena her back is drenched in sweat. I suspect the tacky-too bottom overheats her back, doesn't wick the sweat or allow it to dry. The pad would be excellent for an elderly horse with a sore back needing extra padding.

Great for my guys sore back, 10/31/2008

from Western NY

I got his pad for my guys sore back. I love it. He's older and a bit sway back. Fit's him great and I no longer have those dry spot after a long ride. I just wish I had more time to ride so I could see how it holds up to longer use. I don't think it will fit a shorter backed horse though.

Great Pad!, 10/22/2008
Shelley from Spokane, WA

I have the tacky too pad and liked that but my stallion would buck no matter what pad I put on him until I bought this pad. As soon as I put this pad on him and tightened the cinch he sighed and licked his lips. No more cold back bucking! I love it and it works. The extra padding for the withers is a definite plus on this pad. Just wish they had a dark green color or more basic colors instead of the pastels.

Love it! Want another., 9/4/2008

Danielle Sullivan from Bend, OR

My horse is very comfortable now with her custom made saddle and this pad. She has a long table-top back and low withers. This is a nice big long pad but is too big for my other shorter coupled horses. There should be 2 sizes. Also, I hosed off the bottom and the water soaked into the pad so it was not dry by the next day. Need a recomendation on how to clean the tacky bottom. Otherwise it's a great great pad but may be too long for some horses.

I love this pad!!, 8/4/2008

from Saginaw, MI

This is a great pad. When I bought my new horse, I was given his saddle and 2 different pads. He just never seemed comfortable with either pad (the saddle was custom made for him). I decided to try the Ride'N Lite. He has never moved better under saddle and I can't believe his change in attitude! Well worth it!!!

Great Pad, 7/8/2008

Rita Rhoden from Bakersfield, CA

I have 2 of these pads. They are great.I have never had a problem with chaffing in the back. You may want to make sure the end of the pad is always clean. It will collect sweat that turns hard on the edges........ Rita Bakersfield, CA

I like this pad. It is a little long for my horse too. I had some soft material sewn to the back edge of the pad. Works good.

Great pad, 5/29/2008

Rod from San Diego, CA

I love this pad. It is very durable and will not hold sweat. It is also very sticky and seems to be quite comfortable to my horse. If it is a poor fit as the last review said don't bother. If you have to use a blanket under it you defeat the purpose of the tacky-too.

Great Except for 1 small thing, 4/12/2008
from Enumclaw, WA

This is a great pad. Although, I would recommend that a saddle blanket be used under the pad to protect the horse from chaffing on the rear. The pad's edge has a type of rubber tubing that rubs on the horse. I tried moving the pad forward more which helped a little.
