My horse is very hard to find a blanket that fits her without rubbing her withers. I'm hoping that this will help reduce her discomfort and protect coat.

What size horse is considered a medium? My horses wear between 72-74 blanket. Thanks
Hilarie on Feb 12, 2014
Best Answer: I think my mare wears a size 72 blanket. She's a 15.3HH, average built TB weighing about 1130 lbs. It fits just fine. There is velcro to adjust around the neck and it's adjustable under the belly. I really like this guard. It's protected her withers and shoulders from developing rub marks.

Is this product durable enough for itchy horses that tend to rub their neck areas on trees? If, not, any suggestions? Also, how do you install this item on the horse? Over the head and thru the front legs? Any straps underneath? Easy to take on and off? Not using blankets much in FL so blanket rubbing is not the real problem as we remove the blankets in the AM daily. Thanks!

Best Answer: I would not recommended for itchy horses. The material seems to rub through easily. You install them over the head and there is Velcro that attaches behind the front legs. I also find this easy to remove and put on. I use this on my horse under her winter blanket. Material is very thin and spandex material. There is also a velcro strap at the neck area you can tighten if needed. I hope this is helpful.
