·         250g Polyfill- provides medium warmth and protection from wind and rain.

·         210 Denier Poly Lining - Prevents rubbing and helps to keep the coat shiny while preventing hair, shavings, and straw from sticking to the inside of the blanket.

  • Measuring Instructions - Stand your horse as square as possible, measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If you horse ends up measuring between sizes always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.
  • Washing Instructions - Machine wash with cold water – Gentle cycle with mild detergent. Air Dry or Machine Dry/No Heat
  • Horses Turned Outside without Shelter - Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are waterproof and designed to keep your horse dry, however if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours your horse may still get wet especially in the neck and tail areas.
  • When using a blanket or sheet it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat, when a blanket is too heavy the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth.
  • When selecting a blanket ensure to take into account your horse’s behavior, environment or other horses that may be turned out with your horse. The lower the denier number the less strength the material has. 420 Denier and 600 Denier are not recommended for horses that bite, chew or rub on blankets or for horses turned out with a companion or in a group. Always ensure your horse’s blanket is properly fitted and all straps are adjusted correctly, if a blanket is too tight or too loose, straps may break and material may tear. For younger horses or horses turned out with a companion or in groups, it is recommended to purchase 1200 Denier or 1680 Denier material as these are stronger materials and are less likely to tear. Certain types of fencing such as barbwire or foreign objects such as nails will easily tear any blanket no matter what the denier, always inspect the area in which your horse is kept to remove any nails or jagged fencing that may cause damage. There are no horse blankets that are guaranteed to not rip or tear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Very happy with this purchase. I love this blanket. My horse looks great in it and he is a goofball that stands in the pouring rain when he could be inside and he rolls with it on. After six weeks it still looks new cleans easily and keeps him completely dry in the heaviest downpour. December 28, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellant blanket I have 4 of the Tough 1 600 blankets in Burgandy. In 4th season of use and my horses are in the pasture with Barn access. They have held up great. I have patched two small areas that were caused by bitting but other than that this is a tough blanket. Central Texas does not see a lot bad weather but we see a lot cold fronts with cold bitter winds that get down in the teens not counting the wind chill factor. Loooking forward to more winter seasons with these blankets. Follow the care directions at the end of each season and you will thankful you purchased this product. More than pleased with this blanket! December 26, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by great blanket, great price I was a bit concerned about ordering this blanket after the reviews, but I glad I did. I ordered the pink ( man it is BRIGHT!) for my 16h TB mare. One her second night of wearing we had about 8hrs of rain followed by snow. I was expecting to find her wet... but she was totally DRY! Sizing is right on to. Great blanket for the price. Rated 1 out of 5 by nice fit. POOR quality My older mare loved the fit of this blanket, comfortable for her. She is NOT hard on blankets, but after 2 days had a rip in blanket, a couple days later, another rip and numerous holes. Her last blanket lasted for about 4 years, I just wanted to get her smaller better fit one now. Definitely good priced blanket relatively, however, not for a blanket that lasts less than 2 weeks of wear. December 1, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great blanket I bought two Tough-1 600 Dernier Turnout blankets and am SO pleased with the quality, fit, and durability. So far, my two senior horses have only been in the barn with them on, but I anticipate no durability issues with leaving the blankets on when they're out in the field. Very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend these blankets! November 20, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Like it I am surprised to read all the negative reviews. The blanket fits well, I didn't have any problems with buckles or anything else,it seems durable (I don't have any wholes yet), it looks very neat. I like it, and I like the price too. October 18, 2012

would it keep a horse warm in weather below zero this winter???
A shopper on Nov 4, 2014
Best Answer: It depends on the horse and if you keep them blanketed all the time. I have both the Tough-1 600 and 1200D. I used my blankets to keep my elderly mare (30yr) from getting to cold the last couple of winters. If it was going to drop below zero I used the 1200D. Other wise I used the 600. Anything above 40 degrees during the day no blanket.

Does this tough-1 600 D turnout have front closures that snap, w/adjustable straps?
Mary B on Nov 10, 2014
Best Answer: This blanket has 2 front straps (one above the other) with buckles that are adjustable and heavy duty nylon (like a belt). I have 2 of these and there is no snap or velcro. If I keep them on for any length of time I use a shoulder guard. I love these blankets they are well made and fit my horse great with no slipping or turning.

would it keep a horse warm in weather below zero this winter???
A shopper on Nov 3, 2014
Best Answer: Yes. I purchased the Tough-1 600 Denier Turnout Blanket for my aged gelding (now 30) a few years ago in the 200g fill, and it has kept him cozy through several cold South Dakota winters. He has access to a large run-in shelter with 3 other horses, but the choose to spend a lot of their time outdoors, even when temperatures and wind chills dip below negative 30. I typically blanket him beginning mid-December, or whenever the temperatures are consistantly below zero, and he STAYS blanketed (I do remove it periodically to examine his coat and body condition) until the temperatures warm in the Spring, typically in April. I did purchase a 1200 Denier replacement blanket this year, as the 600 had a few substantial tears from catching it on his feeder or the tin of the shelter. But it held up well for the lenght of time that he wore it.

Is this blanket waterproof or water resistant? Joyce Arkansas
A shopper on Jan 6, 2015
Best Answer: Yes, I've used in rain, sleet and snow. My horses are always dry and warm underneath. However, During heavy rain I always allow them inside or at least opportunity for shelter. With 600 denier, it won't be waterproof but resistant for a period of time and probably need exposure breaks to dry out. If you need waterproof, you'll need a higher denier

how do I measure for a blanket?
A shopper on Jul 10, 2015
Best Answer: See the line where the two colors join? That's exactly where you measure. Stand your horse as square as possible. Measure from the center of the chest around the side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If your horse ends up measuring between sizes, choose the one closest to your measurement unless your horse is particularly big-bodied.
Measuring is usually best done with a helper and a soft or cloth measuring tape. Take the measurement twice to be sure.
