I am needing a 1.5" neck, would this be usable or would it slide around too much?
Kamelia B on Oct 15, 2014
Best Answer: Hi,

You can use these on just about any width stirrup strap as long as you fabricate spacers to go between the stirrup and the strap. Use two spacers for each stirrup, one on each side of the strap. You can make the spacers by using a small hole saw 7/8” – 1” diameter and a hand drill or drill press. The material that you can use to make the spacers can any scrap piece of plywood pervading it is the right thickness to take up the space between the stirrup and the strap. Measure the gap width you need to fill in and use the appropriate thickness of plywood. For example: if the gap is 1” you will use ½” plywood. If the gap is 1 ½” you will use ¾” plywood, and ect. The hole in the center of the spacer will need to be just large enough to slide over the stirrup shaft. You will need to remove the nut from the stirrup and pull the shaft out far enough so you can slid the two spacers over the shaft, and replace the nut. Slide one spacer to each side of the stirrup and place the strap between the two spacers. Tighten your stirrup hobble straps and go riding!

If your not into fabricating your own, you can find round nylon spacers of different diameters at Home Depot or Lowes hardware stores, however you will need to enlarge the center hole to fit over the stirrup shaft.
