our trainer has suggested we use a nose chain when doing ground work with our 6 year old gelding quarter. Would this be a substitute?

Best Answer: I wouldn't recommend it. If you need a chain for ground work, that sounds like a stud chain that would come attached to a lead rope. I prefer to use a training rope halter. You can use one with knots or with a hard nose band, like the Stacy Westfall training rope halter. That is my favorite! Rope halters are useful for getting a horse's attention on the ground. A horse will not pull against and ignore a rope halter as easily as a web or leather halter. A stud chain will do the same thing, but can be abused and misused more easily.
