This bit is pretty good. The horse I ride changed from another bit (not sure what kind, I think it was a snaffle) and apparently she's responding much better with this bit. i haven't had a problem with it at all. The color does fade though. The bit doesn't stay that light copper color, now its a dark brown..but I assume every bit probably does that eventually! I'm not sure if this is the exact bit I use, although it looks exactly like it! I'm not sure where the owner got it from either.I hope this helped a little!

I used to use this but a lot i thought it was a good bit, but a very wise horseman told me how it works. Just look at the mechanics, when you pull back not only does it put the pressure on the horses chin but it breaks right in half and the links shoot right up into the roof or the horses mouth, and when you pull back (again) it folds in half collapsing on the horses bars witch can be very painful. i will never use another tom-thumb bit on my horse ever again its a VERY BAD BIT. When this guy told me how it works its because i had a horse i was using it on and whenever i put even a little but of reassure on the reins she would start bobbing and throwing her head and if i put anymore she would put her head straight out and straight up and take off and wouldn't turn or anything i had to do the one rein stop a lot.

Rated 3 out of 5 by BarrelRacer Bad Bit For Barrel Horses
My barrel horse runs 2-D/3-D runs. I think that anyone who hasn't taken the time to really "get the feel" of the bit needs to change to a less harsh bit. This can be a harmful bit if in the wrong hands. My little sister used to ride my horse and my horse got injured and now needs to use a hackamore due to injures last fall. My horse is still recovering. I would strongly discourge beginner riders/ Intermidate riders to use a less harsh bit.

Was looking for a nice heavy short shank snaffle to train my horse to neck rein, shes still adjusting but I'm hoping she will take to it well. As a horse owner I love it. But the final decision goes to her... and we wait. Great even compared to other more expensive short shank snaffles out there.
