Are these for English stirrup leathers as I want these for my wintec dressage saddle for the trail?
A shopper on Jul 18, 2015
Best Answer: These are basically designed to match a western saddle, but there is absolutely no reason why you couldn't use them with english leathers. The main difference is that the width of the neck on the western stirrups is usually 2-1/2" to 3" whereas an english leather is usually 1" or so wide. Simple fix for that tho. Replace the bolts that go through the neck of the stirrup. If the english leathers are 1" wide or so get a bolt (same diameter as the existing bolt) that is at least 1/2" longer than width of the stirrup leather. Exchange bolts from wider to smaller. The composite material of these stirrups allows them to squeeze together to accommodate the shorter bolt. Also get a locking nut to go with those bolts because a standard nut will sometimes work loose. You can get the bolts and nuts from a regular hardware store. Stainless is more expensive but well worth it. Hope this helps. I do this all the time with different saddles that I have.
