Need a joint supplement with no calories for a 22-year old horse. Is this sufficient or do you have any recommendations??
Julie T on Sep 29, 2015
Best Answer: I use the AniMed Glucosamine 5000 Powder for my 25 year old Trakehner mare. She gives lessons 3-4 times a week, is turned out daily when not ridden. She is doing fine and still has an elastic stride, no stumbling or hesitation in picking up the trot and canter. Still does turns on forehand, backs easily. She is semi-retired and used as a lesson horse for young riders. I believe this has helped her. I also give it along with MSM to my 17 year old ex-race horse who has stiff hocks. He moves sound, is comfortable in all three gaites. Again, I believe the Glucosamine 5000 has helped him.

Does this have any negative long term affects, like ulcers or liver damage?
Emma Hanson on Nov 22, 2016
Best Answer: Hi Emma,
Frankly, I do not know, I guess you'd have to ask a vet. I see no apparent signs of it. My QH appendix is 24, front left is navicular and front right is an arthritic knee. Nice combination. He is going better being barefoot, but is also on the glucosamine 5500, the only glucosamine product that I have found that works and I've tried plenty. He is also on a daily 1/2 tablet of 227mg previcox, which is actually a dog dosage anti-inflammatory that really works. He is maintaining his happy goofy QH disposition, so I am happy to use these products.
