I have a mare who won't take her left lead, And when I lunge her she kinda gimps on it do you think these would help?
Mickayla M on Jul 4, 2016
Best Answer: Hello- I recommend you first have your vet out to evaluate your mare. If she's having discomfort, it may or may not be knee related. Once you have a diagnosis, you and your vet can come up with a treatment plan. No sense buying a product when you don't know what you're treating. I purchased these knee boots upon my vet's recommendation. She treats him periodically with acupuncture and chiropractic adjustment. He's a 22 yr old QH gelding with arthritis in his right knee. I use him for easy trail riding. He rides fine, but is unable to bend the knee in order for me to put on his right front trail boot or for the farrier to trim the right front hoof. Per the vet's advice, he gets Prevacox on days we ride, and Bute on days the farrier comes to trim. I've been using the Back on Track knee boots, too, as she suggested. Vet also gave an Os-Phos injection 2.5 months ago. Unfortunately, none of these treatments has given him help with the right front knee arthritis. I need to re-consult with vet as to our next step. If he could just bend the knee long enough for the farrier to trim the hoof properly, I'd be happy. Good luck with your mare. You're smart to get her checked out before she gets worse. In the meantime, I wouldn't lunge her as that's a lot of pounding. I hope she's well soon!

Can I use these while riding him?
Kristyn V on Jan 4, 2017
Best Answer: Hi- I'm not sure these knee boots were designed to be used while riding, and I haven't used them for riding. Maybe another customer has tried them riding? They might stay on, and not be uncomfortable for the horse, for a walk ride. However, they may slip, or prove uncomfortable to the horse while trotting and cantering. As for jumping, I don't think they'd stay on at all. i use them on my horse when he's in the stall and turned out to pasture. I'm using them based on my vet's recommendation for an arthritic right knee, but frankly, I'm not sure they help. If only my gelding could talk! They come in pairs, and I use them on both knees. You do have to use them with a boot placed around the cannon bone, so they don't slip down. Also, I read that placing them on upside down will help keep them in place. So, I use boots on both front legs, and apply them upside down, and that helps keep them in place. I haven't had them come off. I tend not to use them in the hot summer weather, as they keep the knee area warm, and IMO they would make the horse even hotter. My gelding turns 23 this Spring, and I use him for light trail riding (mostly walking) about once a week. I hope this info helps you. Good luck.

Would the back on track therapeutic knee brace would for large dogs?
A shopper on Aug 15, 2016
Best Answer: I think even a size small knee boot would be too big, even for a large dog. And I wonder, too, that a dog might easily damage them in trying to chew them off. Just to give you an idea, my medium-size knee boots slide down my 15.1 hand stocky quarter horse gelding. I keep them from sliding down by putting the knee boots around the knee, then putting support boots around the cannon bones. That helps to keep the knee boots in place.
