My old horse has a hard time hanging onto weight so I want something that is comfortable for both of us. I broke my arm and had surgery so slinging a saddle on his back is not an option for a month or two.

the reviews indicated it would work for higher withered horses like my tb and everyone commented that it is extremely comfortable and secure - even for a similar tb who can be spooky and spin. also love the pockets . and seems like very good price

I chose this product for a great horse that has one shoulder higher than the other. As well he has a high wither so I hope this will fit him okay. To fit a saddle to this boy would cost a few thousand dollars so this is an easy option that will help him out lots. As well my daughter wants to use the pad! :)

What is the material underneath the pad?
Amy W on Oct 14, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The material under the bareback pad is exactly the same as the material underneath my Western saddle pad made by Equitech, LLC, "handmade USA". It is light weight, breathable durable, airy and easy to clean . We love the Best Friend Bareback pad we purchased. We have been using bareback pads forever - truly, and this one is the best and our favorite of all time!!
What type of girth does this take? Western or English?
Penelope on Jun 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi there! This bareback saddle includes a very nice neoprene girth with ample length even for my thoroughbred’s rather round belly! The saddle itself is padded and comfortable, even on his bony back. I think you’d be pleased!
Can stirrups be added to this pad?
A shopper on Jun 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, I have this pad and there's no way to add stirrups. I have extensive research in bareback pads and you can either get one with stirrups or you can get one with pockets, but not both. Tough 1 makes a bareback pad with stirrups but the clips are right underneath your legs it's not very comfortable for a long trail ride, maybe 20 minutes or so but after that those clips start to dig in.
How do I measure my horse for cinching a bareback pad?
A shopper on Mar 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The pad comes with a cinch, if you need a different size you can probably just use the one off your western saddle. The pad and cinch are designed to fit most horses although I have used it with my pony and needed to add a few holes to make it tight enough. It fits all our other horses including our big warmblood.
What can I do if the cinch is too short for my horse?
A shopper on Mar 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You could buy a girth extender or you can switch it out for a western cinch.
Does this pad have a handle?
Brad W on Nov 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes this pad does have a handle; I call it my sissy bar. This is the best bareback pad ever. Everyone that barebacks at my barn now has this pad. I bought one for my BFF and she loves it! Worth the money for sure!
Does this pad have dees on it for breast collar? It's hilly where I ride and I feel a breast collar would assist in comfort for my horse/reduced slippage.
T P on May 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I took mine to an amish harness shop and had some put on for about $5. The pad is really comfortable.
Two reviewers mentioned bruised calves from girth buckle on Western style pad, which is what I already experience on my English pad when riding my smallish Arab. Why not design a non-bruising buckle system?? I like the back side pockets, but would be just as happy with D-rings front and back. I do need some extra padding, since I have lost some of my own with age!
KIRBY R. on Jul 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The main problem is pretty much all bareback pads have that lumpy buckle in the same place to bother your leg. Have you considered a treeless saddle, such as the Kimberley Ultralight Treeless Saddle (item E005593)? This one is set up with billets under a flap for the girth.
do you have brown?
A shopper on Jun 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: We have this item available in Hunter Green only.
Will this pad fit a Welsh pony?
Kris T on Apr 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Dimensions: 22” x 16”
Adjustable Girth Fits Horse Size Circumference 60"to 86"
What type girth is used with this saddle?
Mary Jo S on Aug 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It is made of the I same material as the underside of the pad. It is very 'breathable' (nylon material? I think). I use my pad a couple of times a week on trail and in the arena. The pad has worn really well and easy to grab for a relaxing quick ride :). The horse I use is a large paint and the girth still fits well, but I have also used it on a quarter horse, too.
