Product Summary:

Cashel Crusader Fly Mask

Offer your horse the ultimate in fly protection and a safe alternative to toxic and ineffective fly sprays. Top-rated for comfort, design, and fit by equine clinicians and publications, the Cashel Crusader Fly Mask employs a patented three-hole cap design that ensures comfort, eliminates forelock damage and remains stationary whether your horse is in the stall or the pasture. The panels are constructed of soft-coated nylon micromesh that hovers above the skin’s surface, protecting the soft tissues of the eyes and forehead from flying insects and blocking 70% of the sun’s damaging UV rays. Edges and seams are bound with low-nap plush fabric that won’t attach to irritating burrs or bristles.

Features:

  • Soft and flexible for maximum comfort
  • Durable and long lasting
  • Keeps mesh away from the eye area
  • Offers 70% UV sun protection

my mare has an injury that will never fully heal on her face. and so she has needed to wear a mask 24/7 for almost 10 yrs. except the dead of winter when there are no bugs and this mask is the only mask that does not rub or make sores behind the ears , over eyes, or any of the protruding facial bones...it also holds up very well to the abuse she puts it thru as the summer sweaty months make her itchy and rub on trees and fences .lol. is such a great product.

These are the only fly masks my horses are not able to get off.

I have been using this mask for years for UV protection. It works perfectly. Very comfortable fit and better visibility than some others. My horse gives me her head and I believe wants it on for sun protection as her blue eyes are sensitive.

I used this product last year and the eye seams finally gave out so I needed new ones. Width of eye spacing a tight fit for my Arabian heads so ordered the Horse size. I purchased an Amigo mask and two hours later found mare without it and I never have found the mask!
Shelley J on Aug 5, 2018
This is a great product that last longer and is much more comfortable for the horse to wear.

Very durable and fits better than most. I've also used the leg guards from Crusader and they are terrific, much better than others.

Cashel Crusader Fly Masks seem to be about the best to me. I've used them for years, and they seem to protect the horses and my 2 Miniature Donkeys the best.

This is my 3rd Crusader mask for this horse. They last multiple years in spite of rough treatment in my wooded pasture , fit well and (best of all) have a slit for my half Arab's huge forelock.
Jane S on Sep 2, 2016
These fly masks fit my Arabians better than any other brand. Also, the material is of high quality and does not cause rubs on their faces.

I needed a fly mask for my pony. Last year I purchased this same one in the pony size, but it was way too big. So after measuring and comparing the size chart, I have ordered the weanling size. Let's hope it fits.
Arleen M on May 22, 2015
Made in U.S., have purchased Cashel fly masks and they last well, clean well. Hope weanling size fits our ponies fine.

ELAINE R on May 16, 2014
I needed a durable fly masks for my horses from a trusted and durable brand.
ASHLEY F on Apr 21, 2014
Trying this mask because it tents around the eyes instead of pressing lashes down
Nancy S on Apr 19, 2014
I have a Dutch Warmblood horse with uveitis and has to wear a fly mask 24/7 to protect eyes from ultraviolet light and this has so far been the only mask that he will voluntarily keep on for long periods of time. I wish they fit better; I have to get warmblood size to keep from rubbing his eye lashes but it is way too big around his nose. I also have the same problem with my other 17h DW.
Lynn B on Mar 29, 2014

will the warmblood size fit a draft horse?
A shopper on Mar 30, 2019
BEST ANSWER: eye darts are spaced 11.5 to 11.75" apart on Warmblood. Draft is 12.5" to 12.75"
the bottom binding measurement is 30" warmblood and 34" Draft
This should help to see if a warmblood will work for your Draft
Is the horse able to see through this or is it designed to obscure vision as well as keep out flies?
A shopper on Mar 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have used these fly masks for years. I think that they are ok during the day, but I suspect that vision is obscured at night. If the horse is stabled up at night that's ok,, but might be a problem if the horse is out. I would be interested to hear other peoples opinion on this issue too.
Does this mask stay completely away from horses eyes?
A shopper on Aug 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It does. Best to hand wash though to maintain shape. After 2 or 3 summers it must be replaced. We use masks year round in Fl for our sensitive horses and the masks hold up nicely.
Why don't you carry this in Draft Size???? I see you have it in draft size with ears but don't want ears, and don't want the nose piece either.
A ELAINE M on Jul 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately we discontinued that size. It is available directly from Cashel if you like; here is the link:
http://www.cashelcompany.com/CRUSADER-FLY-MASK-73/#info
Why does the size chart shows a draft horse size but it is not an option?
Eva S on Jun 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Although Cashel Crusader Fly Mask comes in draft sizes, they are most likely not offered by State Line Tack in that style.
Two holes for ears?
A shopper on Mar 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: From my experience with these masks, they have two holes for ears and one in the middle for the forelock.
They fit well and I love that the forelock is out of their eyes.
These are great masks. They wash nicely too.
Can the mask be
washed?
A shopper on Sep 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It washes well! I wash ours in the washing machine on gentle cycle or give them a good rinsing with the hose. Hang to dry. They dry very fast. I wouldn't put them in the dryer.
Quarter horse or Arabian size? My quarter horse wears the quarter horse size but way too big under chin with velcro
Lynn E on Aug 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If your QH has a refined head you might try the Arab size. Sounds like Horse size is too big and Warmblood size would be even larger. As long as it clears his eyes, I would give the Arab one a try :)
My TN Walking horse gelding has sensitive skin and masks tend to rub his face badly. Is the Cashel mask soft enough not to irritate? Thanks for your help
catsnhorses on Jun 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I believe so. The Cashel masks are quite soft and supple. They have the added benefit of no bright dyes which I think irritate some sensitive horses.
I have been using Cashels on all of my horses for six years and have had no problems.
I put one on my two year old filly when she was just a baby and her tender skin was like velvet, with no issues.
Good Luck!
JoAnne
I have a large mule who wears a draft or extra large halter. Not sure to go with mule/warmblood mask with ears or mule/draft. My mule has no draft in him, he is just big. Anyone experience buying these masks for mules?
Thanks
Bette Anne Q on Feb 16, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Since he is a mule I would go for the one without the ears so as not to interfere with fit, and since he does use draft size halters also it just makes sense to me. I only have experience with arabs though so hopefully some one with a mule will answer.
I have a 1/2 Arab, 15h. Not sure of the size?
A shopper on Aug 30, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Hi. I think the Arabian size should fit just fine. It has plenty of adjustment and will fit most Arabian and half Arabians.
I have a quarter horse who has had to use one of the Arabian masks in a pinch since he likes to leave his hidden in the pasture.
I love these masks; the forelock hole is the best at keeping it out of their eyes. And they last multiple seasons.
