Care:
Diamond Wool® saddle pads have a high percentage of wool content. To avoid shrinkage, do not use hot water to clean or heat to dry. Brush the pad occasionally with a curry brush. This will dislodge hair, dirt, and sweat to prolong its usefulness. Place in a well-ventilated area for efficient drying.
Machine-washing any Diamond Wool® saddle pad is not recommended. To clean pads, use a soft cloth/sponge, a mild shampoo or detergent-free soap, and tepid water. Slightly dampen the cloth or sponge and add a small amount of soap. Work up a small lather on soiled areas. Rinse with clean water. Allow to air dry.

Why did you choose this?

I already have one of these pads that I purchased from State Line Tack. I use this pad for competitive and outside ranch roping, moving cattle in rough country, and trail riding in Wyoming. I have been using the 1st one for about a year and riding at least 3 days a week so I want an extra on hand while I give the one a good cleaning! These pads are a great value!

Have been looking for a 100% wool pad that would do the job at a good value. The posted reviews about this pad were very positive.

after a few talks about sizing saddle pads to the saddle, I am a little confused. I have a 27 inch long saddle, front of skirt to back..do I need a 30 inch pad or a 32?

BEST ANSWER: HI I think you should get the 32 inch. As the pad is used it will curve in the center and shorten up a little. I got a 30 inch, but I have a small horse, 14.3 hands, and a small 15.5 inch saddle. Love this pad, cannot go wrong with it. Get the one with the leather trim on the bottom. It's a little more expensive but worth it because there is less wool bulk in that area but protection for your legs. AMM
Does a wool pad reduce slipping?
A shopper on Feb 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: First time I put on horses back and cinched up, foot in stirrup and saddle rolled!! Tightened down again(far tighter than I usually cinch) and it forced the pad right down onto withers of my bulldog built quarter horse. Bob Avila saddle felt too tight also.
Will this pad help a horse with uneven shoulders?
nancy c on May 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: i believe it would help more than a non wool blanket. I have really liked this pad. I got the 1” pad and it conforms to her and she gets an even sweat pattern and doesn’t digest as much as when my husband uses his tack on her.
Does this help with impact at a gallop?
A shopper on Jan 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: not sure what you mean. This is a thick pad (1") of wool, so there will be some small amount of cushioning between the saddle and the horse's back, and any impact will be at least slightly disbursed over a wider area.
It will not make any difference to what goes on ABOVE the surface of the saddle. If the expectation is that this pad will save either the horse from impact from a rider who doesn't keep contact with the saddle, or the rider that doesn't keep contact with the saddle, then my answer would have to be: Not Really,
What is the F number of the wool felt? I want F11 or F10.
Jay H on Aug 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The primary component is wool felt which is by far the best material to use for a saddle pad. The felt we use is made to our specifications and does not fit exactly into the F rating system which is an automotive classification. It is a needled felt. The “Black Gold” line of contoured pads is made with a high-density 100% wool felt. The grade is similar to an F-13. It is made with 46% virgin wool and 54% pre-consumer reclaimed wool.
What does “beveled close contact cutouts underneath” indicate on the black gold performance pad?
Joyce M on Nov 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is kind of hard to explain but I will do my best. Under the leather along the front, bottom of each side where your latigo would run over on its way down to the cinch, there is a cutout that is beveled so that your latigo runs smoothly along the pad and down along your horse to the cinch, same for the off billet on the far side. That way none of your straps to the cinch has any big gaps and all the rigging and the pad itself hugs the contour of the horse. It is a very well thought out pad. I have two of them and really like them.
Does this saddle pad help prevent the saddle from slipping on a rather round quarter horse?
A shopper on Feb 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Try to look for a pad with bottom Neoprene or waffle bottom. This allows the material to breath which helps cool the horse during the long trail rides. Item # E016995 Classic Equine Zone ContourPedic Saddle Pad is somewhat similar and has a neoprene bottom and is contour.
