Product Summary:

Diamond Wool Endurance Contoured Felt Pad

Endurance Felt Pads are made with one-inch wool blend felt, contoured along the spine and completed with distressed wear leathers. The blend is approximately 50% wool and 50% poly. The poly will help with moisture-wicking while the high wool content will conform to your horse’s back and not slip. The high wool content also allows the pad to breathe and reduce heat build-up.

Features:

  • Cut to fit endurance and Western round skirt saddles
  • 1" thick

I needed an appropriate saddle pad for my new Tucker Saddle with drop rigging. I wanted a felt pad that I could lay shims over and they would stick well, since my boy is rather out of shape and will grow and change with work. This is the only shop I found exactly what I was looking for.

I was looking for 1" thick felt and even though it's designed for Western saddles, the contoured shape will fit under my dressage saddle.
Lucinda H on Apr 2, 2016
heard it was a good pad for gaited horses. hopefully it works. i'll let you know after I use it.
Kristine G on Dec 16, 2015

the price is excellent and I needed a wool pad. The one I have now holds the heat on my horse's back.

Comfortable thick pad at a great price!

I prefer using a good wool felt saddle pad for our long trail rides. Horses are comfortable without working up a messy sweat on their backs.

is this measured wither to back of pad 33in and 15 drop from wither to wear leather?
bungee on Dec 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Exactly. Pad measurements are always supposed to show length x width, or spine x drop. The drop measurement is indeed to the wear leathers.
what is the thickness of the pad?
bonnie k on Jan 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The wool fabric is about a inch thick. My horse love this pad
Is it thicker in the outlined area or an even thickness throught? What is the deffernce between this and the endurance contour felt pad?

Diamond Wool Endurance Contour Ranch Pad
BEST ANSWER: The pad is the same thickness throughout. It is just the stitching that makes it appear to be raised. I love this pad. My horse no longer has a sore back on long rides.
One person said the length of the pad is 33. I thought it was 28" or 30". Which is correct?
A shopper on Feb 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I bought the 28 by 30 and it fits my round skirt 15" barrel saddle perfectly. If you have a bigger saddle it may not fit. Since it fits so close on a 15" round skirt. Hope I helped.
Do you think this pad would work with a 15" treeless bob marshal circle Y round skirt saddle?
wendy o on Mar 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I think so. I use mine with my Bob Marshall treeless endurance saddle.
Compare the two saddles on his web site to be sure.
Will this fit a 17" western saddle?
A shopper on Jan 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It will depend on the size of your saddle skirt. It may be a little small. The Round Endurance Shape has a 28" spine and the square Endurance Shape has a 30" spine. Both pads have a 16 1/2" drop.
I would recommend you try our Contoured Tough Pad. It is the same materials as this pad only in a western square shape. They are available in 30x30 and 32x32.
Is that a cutback at the withers? It looks perfect for my horse, but fabric over the withers, is it thinner?
A shopper on Nov 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: There is a band of fabric that connects the front of the pad and then an opening for wither relief. I use the pad on a OTTB with extremely prominent withers and it fits her great.
does this pad E013940 fit this saddle E006816 16XW BLK? if not, which one does?

BEST ANSWER: I have 16 full quarter horse Fabron flex tree trail saddle and fixes perfect.
What is the percentage of wool in this pad?
Barbara S on Jan 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: 50% wool and 50% poly.
Is 28 the length of saddle...would this fit the fabtron gaited saddle?
Laura w on Oct 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Endurance Square Pad is sized 33" Wide by 30" long. The spine length of the pad is 30". The Endurance Round Pad is sized 33" Wide by 28" long. The spine length of the pad is 28".
You always want to be sure your saddle has clearance all the way around. The saddle should not sit right on the edge of the pad.
I am looking at this pad for my little mare who is only 14.2 hands and I use a 16" seat Tucker endurance saddle. The pad I have now is 30 inches from front to back and ends right before her hips so she can not use anything longer...but I wanted a nice wool pad for her. So I am confused on how this 33x30 pad measures...is it 33 inches from front to back or 30 inches? You answered one question with this - The Round Endurance Shape has a 28" spine and the square Endurance Shape has a 30" spine. Both pads have a 16 1/2" drop. I just need to know the length down her back from front to back, please because several of us want to order one...thanks
Debbie H on Apr 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It is 30" front to back and 33" side to side hence the 16 1/2" drop(16.5+16.5=33)
I'd say buy it and try it...I love these pads so much I have one for each of my horses!
They fit horses and saddles nicely.
Very thick and soft!
Wicks away heat and sweat also.
My only complaint is horse hair sticks into fibers.
Hope this helps!

BEST ANSWER: Works with the Tennessean gaited saddles, works well on high shoulder horses. No problem with slipping.
Which pad is generally used with a barrel saddle?
Amy B. on Nov 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I bought both the diamond wool contoured and the square pad. I love both of them. they are durable, and well made. Even sweat marks on my horse after a ride and no pressure points as far as I can tell. I use the square pad for my trail saddle and the contoured fits perfectly with a round skirt saddle. I'm not sure what your barrel saddle is but the contoured pad will not fit a square skirt saddle. It's much too narrow in the back. Hope that helps.
Does this pad add suport for horses with back problems?
Sophia G on Jul 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This may or may not help but I'll try to answer with my experience. My Kentucky mountain horse does not have back problems but this pad fits so well and is so thick that she never gets sore after long rides or daily training. With other pads I would have to give her days off from training because she would be sore from lack of support. I really love this pad! Worth the money. Hope this helps.
?Can this be used for english saddles? Where are the billet/girth security straps?
A shopper on Sep 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I'm not sure this pad would work well with an English saddle. I think it would be too long and too much of the pad would stick out the back. I have an Casa Dosa endurance saddle that I ride on. Even at that, the pad is about 6 inches longer than the saddle. It is a well made pad, but might not work well with your saddle.
Would thia pas work w! a "Cut-back" TWH or gaited horse saddle?
A shopper on Feb 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This pad will fit a variety of saddles including endurance and gaited. If you are not sure how the pad would work you should lay a sheet over your horse to keep the pad clean while trying to fit it. That way you would not have a problem returning the pad if it doesn't fit correctly.
Will this work for a gaited horse with a straight back and no withers?
Carol June R on Jun 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Carol, I LOVE the fit of this pad, I have used it on 2 of mine, 1- mutton backed mustang, and 1 -withered animal, (not too high or low, but visible) and the venting on this makes all the difference!! Really, Really like it!
Would this work with an Australian saddle?
A shopper on Nov 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I don’t think the saddle blanket extends any lower than a traditional rectangle blanket so if your saddle has a lower skirt or fenders it may not provide the protection needed.
Does anyone also put another blanket under this to keep it clean? or just go with this? if so what blanket, if not, how do you keep it clean? thanks
Christine G on Oct 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, I do not add any blankets under this pad. It is easy to keep clean by brushing occasionally with a soft brush. I would not use hard brush since it may pull the felt. I am happy with this purchase thus far.
Do you recommend using a blanket under this pad?

Do you recommend using a blanket under this pad?
Becky W on Mar 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Using a blanket under this pad is not necessary.
I want this pad in a 28 square pad. I try to add it to my cart to buy but it shows a picture of the round? :-(
RickNshay K on Oct 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Endurance Square Pad is sized 33" Wide by 30" long. The Drop in the front is 16 1/2" in the front to make the overall width 33". The spine length is 30". The drop in the seat (on the endurance square) is 13", making the overall width in the seat area 26" wide.

The Endurance Round Pad is sized 33" Wide by 28" long. The Drop in the front is 16 1/2" in the front to make the overall width 33". The spine length is 28". The drop in the seat (on the endurance square) is 9", making the overall width in the seat area 18" wide.
does it come in a thinner model? the 1 inch, is great for one of my horses, but too think for the other.
Tammie W on Dec 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This pad, no. You may wish to take a look at the Diamond Wool Contour Cowboy Pad (item E006941), which is available in three thicknesses.
