I have a foal (colt) that is getting ready to begin eating solid foods as well as nursing. I need this to keep his mother out of his food, so that he gets his complete ration.

Great product for my foal. The colts mom continued to eat his feed first then eat hers afterwards. This feeder fixed that. Love that it can grow with my colt and really a heavy duty bucket compared to most on the market.

how wide are the openings between the bars? Will this feeder openings close enough that an Arabian mare will not be able to eat from it?
Nonna on Mar 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You can change how wide the bars are, there are multiple slots. Only problem is the depth, in order for a foal to reach in far enough to get the grain, the slots have to be as wide as the head, which was as wide as my mares muzzle....so I turned the foal feeder into a salt block holder so my money wasn't completely wasted. I was using for a Norwegian Fjord horse, maybe it will work better for an arabian...
Can this feeder work for lambs?
Jeannie E on Feb 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Im not experienced with lambs. The bars on top can be adjusted to only allow the babies nose to fit into feeder but the bucket part is deep so unless their noses are long they wont be able to reach the feed in the bottom.
Is there to hang this or is it only able to be hung by screwing it into the wall?
Autumn C on Apr 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: If I recall the feeder comes with brackets in which it could be hung o n a fence or wall. I preferred to mount it directly to wall so the foal could not get in the habit of pulling it off wall or flinging it around. The adjustable aluminum bars are nice.
