How.many boots is this? One boot or a pair?
A shopper on Aug 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Mine was a single, but I bought it long ago. Best to ask the seller, or take a look at the packaging, as that should say. This is a very good, easy to use, boot. Good luck!
Will this boot hold up for turnout ?
Amy T on Jun 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Our horse had a severe bruise on her sole that required she wear a metal plate over her shoe to protect
the sole while it healed. We couldn't let dirt and debris get under the plate so she wore the EasyCare Easyboot
Zip Hoof Boot in her stall and also outside in a 40' round pen. She walks a lot but can't go much faster than that. The boot held up great for what we expected. We also used the leather "pad" that comes with the boot for
added protection. The boot lasted maybe 3 months with continued use. If the ground is wet the boot does hold
moisture so we found it was best not to turn her out when it was muddy or rainy. In her stall it was perfect.
The boot would slightly turn on her foot but not enough to cause a problem. We were very happy with the results and glad to have found a boot she could wear during her healing process.
Would this work to wear on a therapy mini to give traction on slick floors?
Kimberly W on Nov 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Not sure, I only use them outside. The bottom is textured enough to fill with dirt. Rubber floors would be ok but not linoleum.
Would you be able to make it waterproof with some kind of spray on water proofing?
Randi P on Oct 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I'm sure you could spray the fabric, but that wouldn't keep the water out of the boot as it opens almost to the ground for inserting the hoof. The sides would still allow water in no matter how you kept it from seeping through the fabric. If you need to keep the hoof completely dry, I suggest wrapping it in vetwrap under the boot.
Can we let our horse out in the pasture with these boots on? Will they last or fall apart in a week? He has a severe hoof wound and needs some protection even after it heals.
A shopper on Mar 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This is a great boot, and it won't rub and cause problems. It is perfect for in stall, or short walks to turn out. But it isn't built, I don't think, for rough use. A pad inside will help the inside wear, but a boot with tread is better for outside. Be sure and look for comments about pastern rubbing on any boot you consider.
How do you select a size or what size does it come in?
AmyJA on Mar 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: We traced the size of her hoof (she has shoes on also) by having her stand on a piece of cardboard.
We took those measurements and went by the Size Chart for the Easy Care boot. The boot has some
"give" to it but be sure to get them wide enough. Our horse also wears a size 4 shoe.
Hope that helps! Our horse had to wear a plate on one shoe for a while until a bruise healed and these
boots worked great. She was able to go out in a round pen and the boot kept the dirt out of her foot.
They did get wet and muddy, easy to clean but did fall apart after much wear. We bought extra leather
pads to replace the pads when they would get worn in.
Well this boot work for a horse with laminitis?
A shopper on Oct 9, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is good for use over hooves for surface protection during healing.
If you are lightly riding a recovering laminitic horse, you may also wish to consider EasyCare's New Mac Boots (item E015322).
suitable for turnout?
A shopper on Nov 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: For light turnout, yes. I use these on my mare to keep snow from balling up inside her shod front hooves, and when it's muddy to keep the shoes from being sucked off. They have stayed on well and held up well, and they're very easy to put on & take off.
