how do you measure for a proper fit for a turnout blanket in the winter?
A shopper on Sep 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: From the center of the horse's chest, to the backside of the rump.
Please, how many grams of fill? Considered to be a medium?
Luci M on Jan 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This blanket has 300g of fill which is considered a heavy weight blanket.
Need a blanket that won't ride up on my mare's mane. So no fleece at top. What do you suggest?
A shopper on Dec 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I love this blanket, but it does have fleece on top. I find if you get a size larger it will be more comfortable for her. Thats what I usually do for mine.
is this heavy or medium weight and is it water proof?
Lynne Y on Oct 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I found that it is heavy than most. Great for a damp cold. Im from New Orleans so our winter is a wet one, not dry. Im not sure if it is water proof, but I really like the texture. I have not actually used it yet since I bought mine not during the winter but I cant wait to use it in few weeks : )
what blanket weight needed for 38 degrees?
A shopper on Jan 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Honestly, it depends. Common sense prevails and these comfort ranges are intended to be a guideline that can be affected by wind, rain, and the winter coat or lack thereof of your horse: Lightweight blankets will keep a horse comfortable and healthy at 30 to 50 degrees, medium weight blankets are comfortable at 10 to 40 degrees and heavyweight blankets are comfortable from 0 to 30 degrees. Below 10 degrees, a second blanket or a blanket liner should be added, and possibly a neck cover or hood as well.
Your best indicator is to check your horse during different temperatures. Feel under the blanket at the shoulder, ribs, and haunches. The horse should feel warm but not hot, and most definitely not sweating.
Most blankets will indicate whether they are considered lightweight medium weight, or heavy weight. Sheets have no insulation.
Please bear in mind this item you submitted your question is under is a stable blanket, not meant for use out in the weather. If your horse is turned out you probably should purchase a turnout blanket.
Also, spare blankets and sheets are always a good idea to have on hand if layering is necessary or if the one the horse is wearing gets damaged.
