Product Summary:

Herm Sprenger Snap Prong Dog Collar

The Herm Sprenger prong collar is one of the most recognizable and popular names in obedience training tools. A safe and effective alternative to choker collars, it puts even pressure around the neck, about every half inch, pinching the skin in a band. This collar does not apply direct pressure to the trachea so you can train your dog with little or no tugging, jerking, or pulling. Made of high quality German steel and adjustable size, just add or remove the chrome plated links individually.

Features:

  • Interlocking links, each link equipped with two blunt prongs
  • Solid fastener plate
  • Scissor snap
  • Slightly beveled, polished prong tips
  • Easy to increase or decrease size
  • Made in Germany
Sizes:
14"L x ¾"W (2.25mm)
18"L x 1"W (3mm)
20"L x 1"W (3.25mm)
22"L x 1¼"W (3.8mm)

Sizing instructions: Collar should fit snugly just below the dog’s ears. Measure the circumference of dog's neck and add one inch.

These collars are very effective when used properly with large dogs who do not have good leash manners.

Does this hurt the dog, mine is 35lbs?
A shopper on Jul 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: "Hurt" is a relative term. My GSD pup is almost 80 pounds of love and devotion, but also energy. Though she has graduated from good training she still gets excited to see other dogs on our walks...she only wants to play but is still a large girl. A tug or "pop" on this collar reminds her that if she pulls hard her thick skin will get pinched by the prongs. Does it hurt her...doubtful. I have seen no signs of distress. That said, you should be able to manage a 35 pounder without this type of collar. If it is a GSD and just young then yes, start now to save yourself the worry every time you go for walks. The dogs dont really like them at first, would you...try it on like I did to see, but they do work well. Alll dogs, even the same breed, are different. If it is a GSD go buy the book "How to be your dog's best friend" by the Monks of New Skete...or just buy "A Dog's Purpose." HH
dogs neck is 16.5 adding 2 inches would be 18.5 so what size should i buy?
Holly F on Jun 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Sizing instructions: Collar should fit snugly just below the dog’s ears. Measure the circumference of dog's neck and add one inch.
You would want to add two inches for leather or nylon collars - only one inch for a prong collar.
is this quick release?
