Keratex Hoof Gel
The Ultimate All-Year Protection For Hooves

Keratex Hoof Gel keeps hoof horn water tight in wet weather, stops cracking in dry. Not a damaging oil, but a powerful hydrophobic treatment that leaves the hoof glistening dry.

While Keratex Hoof Hardener repairs damage to the hoof horn's molecular structure caused by water and ammonia, Keratex Hoof Gel quite simply stops the damage from happening in the first place.

Keratex Hoof Gel protects hooves from damage caused by manure, urine and excess water absorption.

Keratex Hoof Gel allows the hoof to breathe. Air can pass freely through Keratex Hoof Gel in either direction and excess moisture can be expelled from the hoof. No water or typical chemicals can enter the hoof from the outside.

Most problems resulting in hooves cracking and losing shoes are caused by the effects of water and ammonia. Keratex Hoof Gel protects the whole hoof capsule by providing a barrier against adverse environmental influences acting on the integrity of hoof horn.

Normal hoof oils and greases offer little protection against environmental damage. Once they come in contact with ammonia from urine, they become water soluble emulsions which are quickly washed off, allowing both water and ammonia to permeate the horn.

To maintain a healthy hoof capsule, Keratex Hoof Gel allows the horn to breathe. This means that air can pass freely through Keratex Hoof Gel in either direction and excess moisture can be expelled from the hoof, but no water or chemicals can enter the hoof from outside, The function is much the same as semi-permeable cloth used for outdoor clothing, which allows moisture out, but prevents rain from getting in.

Horn does not need extra moisture from external sources as the hoof capsule will take care of that naturally from inside. Constant changes in the moisture content of the hoof will result in cracking during the Summer.

Used as a standard hoof treatment throughout the year, Keratex Hoof Gel will maintain the moisture content of the hoof at the same natural level, rain or shine, Summer or Winter, turned out or stabled in. This is the answer to maintaining hooves in a healthy condition throughout the year. Hooves will naturally become stronger, harder and more able to resist the stresses of shoeing and work.

Because of the waterproofing effect, hooves are easier to clean and dry. Keratex Hoof Gel also contains a natural disinfectant to maintain hooves in a healthy condition.

Keratex Hoof Gel will help prevent snowballing if applied regularly to the sole and frog and immediately before going in the snow.

If you are showing or going to an event, all you need to do is apply Keratex Hoof Gel, let it dry, and then buff it with a cloth to have a super natural sheen on the hooves. Keratex Hoof Gel does not attract bedding, grass and dust in the same way as grease and oil type hoof dressings.

User Notes

Sold in 1-liter bottles

Do not use conventional hoof oils and greases with Keratex Hoof Gel. Use every 2 days except in dry conditions when Hoof Gel can be applied every 4 days. Apply an extra coat before riding out in snow or in extremely wet, muddy conditions.

Use with keratex hoof hardener to maintain hooves.
Tracy S on Nov 2, 2018
This works wonderfully well in wet weather. It seals the hoof and the water cannot soak into the hoof wall. Makes a world of difference to the overall hoof health. Apply two coats with drying time between.

Use with keratex hoof hardener to maintain hooves.

I have been using Keretex hoof hardener and that has hardened her soles - now switching to the Keretex hoof gel. Hopefully that will maintain her hooves during the wet grass/sand here in Florida.

Used last season during the hot summer months with great success! Though I've also used this product during the wetter weather of winter and spring, summer is when I've noticed the biggest difference in my mares hooves when using this product.

My farrier recommended the hoof gel to manage moisture in the hoofs. My horses are in the pasture 24/7 and I have had no Thrush or White line issues all winter long.
Susan R on Mar 22, 2014
Tried the hoof hardener before and wanted to see how this works in the wet and snowy conditions this winter.
Melanie M on Jan 4, 2014
This stuff is tried and true in England where they know mud and wet ground. When used as directed it is effective in keeping my thin walled horse's feet from getting too soft in Florida rainy season.

What can you buy to apply it?
John S on Jan 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Any hoof product applicator or a small paint brush or paint sponge. I found a hoof brush for applying topical products at my local tack shop for less than a dollar, which is perfect since it has a cover.
Hi, My farrier recommended this product and to put it on the sole of horses feet, making sure not to get it on the frog, and that it will help toughen up her feet, as of right now she does not have shoes on. Can anybody have experience with this product? Thank you so much! Shirley
Shirley K on Jan 8, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The keratex line is expensive but effective for toughening up weak and shelly hooves. I used this in transitioning my off-track thoroughbred to barefoot so he could regrow decent feet, and I still use it to strengthen and protect his hooves.
how long does the one litter last for one horse 3-4 times a week?
Tori G on Jun 5, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I would say months - like 5 or 6. Of course it depends on how big the hoof is and how thick you try to apply it. Also the product seems to thinken or get cloudy in the humidity of FL over time so what I did was pour a small amount (1/4 of it maybe) into a GLASS jar with a sealing lid and use it from that jar, then add more when I needed to. This kept the larger quantity in better shape. A dauber or small paint brush (1") works well. I say GLASS because I think it is plastic reactive over time. It used to come in a plastic bottle and changed to metal.
Can you use Keratex Hoof Gel after applying Keratex Hoof Hardener? The descriptions imply they have different uses - the gel for protection and the hardener for treatment.
Ava L on Aug 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I use the hardener soles and hoof but about 1/2 inch away from coronary band once or twice a week. I use the gel off and on other days for added protection. For both, you need a very clean area. Do not get dirt in the container. I pour the hardener into the cap and paint from that as to keep dirt out of the bottle. I use a small pimento jar with lid and a small cheap, hardware store paint brush for the gel. The gel will melt plastic so use a small glass jar. The 'gel' is not exactly gelled. I even called Keratex about it b/c it was so 'thin' and I was expecting 'gel' and they said it was supposed to be thin liquid. If you can only afford one, buy the hardener. I have had great success with it BUT it has to be applied religiously! Good Luck. Let me know if you have any other questions.

My horse has a sensitive frog, would this product help to toughen his frog?
A shopper on Jul 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It might-I did not use it on the bottom of the hoof. I used it on the nail line to help with cracking and splitting. It works well for that.
What size is the opening/cap? I need to get a brush that will screw on.
John S on Jan 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: About the size of a 50 cent piece. You will need a small brush.
