The sheet itself is great but the neck is way too small so it has to be returned

long tailed sheet
I bought this because of the long tail cover to protect against tail rubbing. It worked for this. However, the light weight fabric should not be expected to hold up more than 2 summer seasons without tearing.

I returned the koolcoat fly sheet because the new front closure design made the fit very bulky and made the neck fit tight.

Great sheet
Seems to work well and my horse seems to stay cool enough in it. Holds up well. If you have a draft cross or exceptionally wide or thick-necked horse, you may want to go a size up. I have a draft cross and this is a little tight in the neck but works well. My only question is that it has belly-band hooks, but mine did not come with that strap. Awaiting an answer from customer service.

Partially cotton so not good for grass
This is getting returned because the top part seemed to be cotton and in that white color I know it would soon be totally covered in grass stains from my horse rolling :P I live in ND where triple digits don't happen so I'd prefer all coated mesh or a darker color

Crooked but Kool
This Kool Sheet very durable and nicely made. It keeps my boy cool and the fly's off him. The biggest problem I have, which I can see is very annoying to my horse is the sheet always shifts to the side because it only has one surf single belly strap and it buckles a bit high. I does have the two leg straps in the back. I think if it had the standard two Chris cross belly straps it might stay put. One positive is I can leave the neck attachment on without a halter and it does not slide down and bunch up at the shoulder. I'm sorry to say I'm disappointed in this sheet.

My dark bay bleaches out under the South Georgia sun, so I picked Kool Coat. The reviews were honest and weighed in on my decision to try this fly sheet.
Alx W on Aug 17, 2017
Bought it for a friend since I was placing an order. The current one she has is shot after using it on two different horses over at least 5 years. I think that it is still semi usable after this much abuse says a lot about it's durability (it is ripped up pretty bad-but seriously-two horses and 5 seasons- that's durable!). We do get heat but not the humidity here in Southern California so this sheet generally isn't too hot.

Because I have previously used it and liked it, I just purchased three Lite Combo style Kool Coats and am returning two of them, I do not like that style it immediately rubbed the hair off my horses shoulders.

I like the idea of both a detachable hood & partial mesh. Wish it would come with a belly band to offer more protection.

Honestly I chose this item because of the good reviews. I will be sure and post mine after my horse uses it for awhile

Dark Bay and Tennessee sun. Needed something with a UV to it to keep him from sun bleaching out during show season. The price was right to try
Cathy B on Mar 11, 2014
I really like the protection from flies, mosquitos and the sun this Kool Coat offers and the cotton fabric is breathable. The mesh does rip fairly easily, but I have repaired it on a sewing machine several times. They wash easily in my front load washer. A belly band would improve this fly sheet.
Deborah M on Mar 3, 2014
Unique at the time, good price, works well and washes easily.

do horses over heat in this?
Scotlynn H on Jul 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I live in Homosassa, Fl. I have 5 horses wearing Kool Coat. We have had a very hot, muggy, buggie summer. This is the first sheet that I have found (at last!) that keeps my horses comfortable withouut sweating. The open lower half of the blanket makes a huge difference. The belly band is under instead of outside the blanket but it works fine keeping the blanket in place without pulling it cloose to the body to increase heating. My horses wear them 24/7 except when working. They are pastured with free acess to their stalls and the blanket has proven to be very durable. I made a mistake and hitched the top closure at the base of the neck to the halter. One horse rubbed the halter off, catching her foof in it and ripped the neck portion. Not a smart idea.I highly recommend this blanket.

My gelding is broad through the shoulder; wears a 78 in rambo, 81 in weathabeeta. What size should I get in the Kool Coat Airstream?
Shelley S on Sep 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I have a 16 1 quarter horse. He fits an 81 in pretty much everything. He needs butt space. The 81 kool coat. Fits him nice. He lives in it all year. I actually have 4 of them. They wash beautifully, come out like new !!!! My girl friends horse is also 16 1. Irish sport horse. And he has a 78. I prefer the roomier fit of the 81. He has never had rub marks in two years.
I also suggest to not cross the back leg straps. If u put to same side the blanket after roller adjusts perfectly :)
Hope the help. The kool coat is my must have !! From Palm Springs to vancouver :).
fleece at withers?
Diane M on Jun 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes. Also, because it's white, dark horses are much more comfortable if they're in the sun. You can feel the difference in the heat coming off their back.
What percentage of UV rays does this sheet block?
A shopper on Mar 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I am trying to recall this question but I seem to remember it may be around 80%. These sheets work really well unless it gets 90 degrees or higher then they get hot on the horse. I like them with temps under 90 and I think they do a good job or keeping flies/bugs off your horse also. I have yet to find anything that has 100% UV protection. Hope this helps.
Does this sheet come with sheepskin on the withers?
Payton D on Jul 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I am currently using this product and just ordered a new one for the remainder of this summer. It is 100% man made materials. I personally do not see any advantage to sheep skin on the withers. My horse has appeared to be very comfortable, and he uses it everyday.
how to measure for horse blankets?
Bryn B on Jun 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Stand your horse as square as possible. Measure from the center of the chest around the side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If your horse ends up measuring between sizes, choose the one closest to your measurement unless your horse is particularly big-bodied.
Measuring is usually best done with a helper and a soft or cloth measuring tape. Take the measurement twice to be sure.
how do you know what size??
booboo on Aug 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: you measure your horse from middle of chest to middle of tail. what that measures is the size you need. the neck piece should have a chart to correspond with the sheet size.
Does this keep flys and mosquitoes from biting thru the blanket?
Grace on Mar 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, these are great sheets as they also really do help keep horse cool in summer. Over the years we have purchased at least 6 of them.
What color is this blanket?
Grace on Mar 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: White with a light blue grid pattern on the fabric part.
wat is 5 foot 9 inch cover equal to please 78 ?
A shopper on Dec 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If the horse measures 5ft 9in from center of chest straight back to the edge of the hindquarters, that is 69", so that would be a fly sheet size of 69" as well.
I have a quarter Arabian pony 141/2 hands what size would i order for Kool coat airstream sheet?
Barb M on Sep 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Measuring Instructions: Stand your horse as square as possible, measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If the horse ends up measuring between sizes always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.
