I ordered these on black friday week last year and they were constantly on back order and so I cancelled the order, now they are in stock and I bought 2 instead of 4 to see if we like them first. Great price though with the extra discount today.

I needed a bareback pad the is easy to cinch up with out a degree from MIT and with a handle as well as some good padding for my students to learn balance. I have talked to a few people that have gotten this item and it sounded perfect.

I love riding bare back and want to make my horse comfortable
Maria A on Mar 19, 2014
Love this bareback pad. We use it almost everyday. It makes riding bareback more comfortable as it has just a nice amount of cushion. Love it also because the microsuede makes this pad non-slip for the rider.

Wanted a pad to use when I felt like jumping on bareback. Turns out I don't use it much because my knees can't take it. Should have got the one with stirrups. But over all I really like the pad it is soft and sturdy. Just don't forsee using it much. But glad I have it!

I was shifting through reviews and didn't really find the answer I was looking for..My horse is about 14'2 and takes about a 30inch cinch....is this too big?? Has anyone had this on a smaller horse?

BEST ANSWER: Strap from the top to the center of fleece, when on tightest hole is 33" (complete circumference would be 66"), strap from the top to the center of fleece on last hole is 39" (complete circumference would be 78").
How is this with a horse that is learning to ride. She is 5 but abused every time her owner but the saddle on. Thought this might help her more than a regular heavy saddle. Any suggestions are really appreciate. She is a rescue horse and still has challenges. I have to keep what I do cheap because I lost my job but want to do the best for her? Thank You Lisa
Lisa W on Aug 30, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Hi Lisa,
First, let me commend you for investing the time and love required to help an abused horse. I have worked with several, myself, and it is so rewarding to see each challenge and obstacle overcome. Your horse will thank you!
As for the bareback pad, I have one major concern with it; that is the "pommel" of the pad really seems to rub the horse's withers. It needs a lot more contouring to fit a horse comfortably. We don't want to cause any horse pain or discomfort, but your horse having been abused especially needs only positive associations.
If you want to go with the bareback pad idea you may want to explore options where you can try a few out until you find one that fits your horse. Other suggestions would be to put a lunging surcingle on over a saddle pad. Have you also tried simply saddling your horse and then just letting her wear the saddle for a while, no pressure or attempting to mount, repeating the exercise until she is completely relaxed with it and then taking TINY baby steps to progress from that point? You could also associate just wearing the saddle with positive things such as quiet quality time with you, taking a short walk to a grassy area for grazing time, etc....
Hope this helps. Be safe, and I wish you the best of luck!
? I would like to know if anyone would recommend this pad as a training pad just to be able to secure it on a colts back so he gets used to something around his girth and on his back. he is almost two he stands 15+hands and about 950 lbs.
Michael L on May 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: That's a great idea and a good way to start getting a young horse ready for a girth and saddle. I really liked this pad EXCEPT that there is very little contouring at the withers, and the "hem" or edging around the outer edge of the pad makes a stiff roll right across the withers. My mare doesn't even have particularly prominent withers, but after a couple of rides I noticed she was beginning to get rubs in that area. If you don't cinch this too tight you might not have a problem, although that does rule it out as a riding pad. If it wasn't for that, this would have been a great pad, with the grippy suede and was comfortable for the rider-just not the horse. You may be better off looking for something more contoured, or even try a lunging curcingle, which would simulate girth pressure and you could also put a saddle pad underneath it if you want something to cover the saddle area.
does it pinch the horse and when it slides does it slide alot and when jumping does it go back to the regular place you put it at after you jump if it slipes?
joy r on Aug 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Hello, I haven't had those problems with this pad, but then again I haven't jumped my mare using it. I like the pad, my only complaint is that the buckle ends up very high because I have a little Arab (15.1) so the buckle catches my calf and is sort of annoying. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Barbara
will this bareback pad fit a pony 10.2 hands ?
Jean R on Feb 21, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Hi Jean. I took measurements of mine so it might help others. Here they are. Hope this helps.

The pad itself is approx 32" wide. The Girth is approx 31" and attaches to the approx 12-13" straps.
will this pad fit on a paint draft?
jim a on Dec 15, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Jim the pad itself is approx 32" wide. The Girth is approx 31" and attaches to the approx 12-13" straps. You could add a larger girth of your own so I think the seat size would be the final issue. I have a tubby quarter with large bones and it is fine for our purpose but a draft would still be larger. I hope this helps.
I have a mare an I've been working with her on riding bareback but I slide around a lot due to her having slick hair would this help to keep me balanced while training her with bareback?
A shopper on Jan 11, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely! It has a suede cloth seat that gives you excellent grip, but is also thin, for really close contact with your horse. I rarely use a saddle and love this and so does my horse.. Saves on laundry, too! (+: Also, never use a coat shine product under the pad or saddle, or you will be riding upside down!
I'm really looking for something with cushion more than security to ride my rather high withered TB is this good padding??
Jessica O on Sep 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I would say no. It's about half an inch of padding, but the one thing I have a tiny issue with is the border of the pad. It's rough and a little stiff; my quarter horse doesn't mind, but I think it would be uncomfortable for a higher withered horse. All in all, I wouldn't get this one.
Hi. Do you think pad will fit a 14.0/14.1 pony with a medium build?
Sarah D on Oct 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: we have a 13.3 hand poa with a slight build and it is a little big in the girth. You may be able to poke a hole in the nylon but I haven't tried.
Is this good for starters that are starting to ride bareback?
A shopper on Dec 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes - absolutely~ fits well - stays in place and is very comfortable. I was just learning to ride bareback when I bought this and it is perfect.
Will this part fit a Warmblood horse 1400 lbs. Wears 87" blanket?
Theresa P on Nov 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: My Missouri Fox Trotter is just over 1000lbs. I have it on the very tightest notch on one side and tighten the other side to the second to tightest on the other. So almost the tightest it can go and if I remember correctly it has 4 or 5 holes on each side
do you think it would help with a rough horse? (cantering)
joy r on Aug 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: There is not enough padding to really make a difference on a bumpy horse, but the handle does help keep you in place if you use it. The suede also keeps you from sliding into the withers if the horse stops suddenly.
Is it washable?
A shopper on May 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I dont think I would wash it, but you can use a clean grooming brush and brush the top and I use a shedout to remove hair from the bottom and cinch....
Could I use this on a small pony if I switched out the girth?
Linda R on Nov 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: My girls have used this pad on a small quarter horse. But the girth can easily be changed so I would imagine you could adjust to fit a pony. It has been comfortable and durable.
What size is the girth?
A shopper on Jul 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Strap from the top to the center of fleece, when on tightest hole is 33" (complete circumference would be 66"), strap from the top to the center of fleece on last hole is 39" (complete circumference would be 78").
Reading the reviews this looks like a great pad. I really wanted stirrups tho. is there any way to add them, or rig a way to get up on that horse?
keythe k on Aug 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Mustang advises us that stirrups cannot be attached to this pad. You may wish to consider instead the Mustang Navajo Bareback Pad (item E000364) or their Mustang Soft Ride Saddle (item E009691). Both of these items have stirrups.
