Wearable technology for horses
Orscana is the first wearable equine health monitor. This rugged sensor, built to withstand wear and tear from the horse, clips onto your horse’s blanket to track body temperature and activity level, as well as data on weather and humidity. Now you can monitor your horse’s welfare, whether in the stable or out grazing, via an app on your Android or iOS smartphone.
Orscana measures the temperature under the blanket, detects sweating, and analyzes movement – time at rest, activity levels from quiet to intense, and more. It also takes weather forecasts into account, to help you anticipate the horse’s needs at night. Using the collected results, Orscana calculates the horse’s comfort zone, making it easy to decide which blanket your horse needs. A warning system lets you know when the horse comes out of its comfort zone, alerting you to possible health issues. You can even share data via the Orscana app with your contacts on social media.

Equine temp monitor
Best monitor for the price ... the directions were written by a non-native English speaker but you can figure out how to use nonetheless ...

Fun, but unreliable
I find the information the Orscana provides is fun to know and somewhat helpful, however you have to be right next to it to have it read it so looking at it in the morning for information from the night before is what you get. Fine, but there is no date and you cant know if its truely the night before or just the last time it worked. I have had a inconsistant problem with it not working. Maybe I thought it was on and it wasnt or someting to do with the bluetooth but I cant always get a reading. Having them do an update from centigrade to f was super helpful.

good temperature gage
I was very excited when I ordered this product but am not so excited after receiving it. I have had the monitor now for 5 weeks. great for temps but the app is not great and does not give you much information. Movement is tracked but only an average over night and the past 6 hours. It gives percentage saying disturbed but no explanation of what that means as apposed to when active. Only a snap shot of previous day. After 24 hours the info is gone, app only keeps a single number the average for that day. The durability holds up with a horse that loves to roll but on the bad side it is very easy to turn off, that most days my horse shuts it off rolling. So when I get home and upload the info there is no info to upload since it was turned off when he rolled. I have yet to see the local weather on my app I am in the dead of winter and each day it tells me that the temp will be 80 degrees so I have no idea what area it is giving me for weather even though I have all my local info entered.

It doesn't sync when I leave the barn so I only know how his night was when I get to the the barn in the morning.
Fitbit for horses!
So far, the monitor works great! I was iffy on if the monitor would stay attached to the horses blanket but it did with no problem at all. Will support her body weight and keep going. My only con to the product is that the blue tooth is only capable of connecting at less then 30 meters or roughly 100 feet. Glad I got it for my wife's piece of mind!

Jury is still out
I recieved this from a contest on state line. I am a tech head and this will be the coolest gadget ever if they get it working like they anticipate. The FAQ are in French. It was not a big deal except for the fact that I like to read them and really figure out what a device is capeable. The temperature is in Celsius not Fahrenheit. While I have no clue what that actually Is as an American I can figure that out. The app also provides a nice graph with cola and hot and where your horse is on that graph at that time. The pocket that the device is in? Not sure if the device will get lost or not. I was going to sew it shut but since I recieved this in a contest I feel responsible for giving it a true review and perhaps if it falls out of the pocket they can send me a new one idkIt references contacts, I could not find a way to set that up. I contacted the company directly and they said that feature was not enabled yet

Does this require data or wifi? Or will everything sync with just a Bluetooth connection?
BEST ANSWER: Orscana syncs up to 100 feet away. It is a data collection and analysis tool that gives you the information to rug your horse correctly ahead of time. It is not a baby monitor. New functionality was added in both Android and iPhone that allows you to have contacts, your contacts then have access to your sensor, your friends can update your horses data when you are not on the yard and your app will update no matter where you are. Support is in English, they are very helpful and go the extra mile, best way is to PM on Facebook.

They don't work if you are more than 50 feet away regardless. Waste of money - Stateline doesn't support them and support is in French - so useless to us when we called them. I guess if you speak French, it might work for you
Don't know we had to cancel the order after State Line kept missing there delivery dates - we waited for a month. After every shipping date would arrive we would get a new date a week further out.

Is the device waterproof? My horse is out for turnout 8+ hours a day and i am really interested in this product.

BEST ANSWER: Orscana measures humidity and therefore is water resistant. Sitting underneath a turnout it will be perfectly fine, Arioneo have said that the fixing system should only be used for travelling purposes and that the pockets should be sewn into the rugs (plaiting thread is great). With pockets sewn into your rugs you just simply move the sensor between turnout and stable rugs.

So this only works when you are within 30m of your horse? Can it connect to wifi so I can monitor it from anywhere?

The goal of the product is not to receive an alert at 3am but to use as a tool to answer: Did your horse have abnormal activity last night? Is he too hot or too cold under its blanket during transport? Should you change or take off his blanket tonight? etc.

When you say Oscala measures the horse's activity level, does that mean their heart rate?
Also, are you able to mount it on the belly band area of blankets that have them?
BEST ANSWER: Orscana does not monitor heart rate. The device must be between the horse and the blanket on the hip using the fixation system provided with the device or sewing that pocket under the blanket.
