Sturdy, esthetically pleasing, good value
I bought this for my 9-month-old tabby "Squirt." He weighs in at 5.5kg and is expected to reach about 6kg (healthy) when fully grown. When you add a washable cushion inside this Petmate carrier, it is perfect pets of his size to be able to stand up and turn around. Also, there is plenty of room for some familiar toys. MSRP is reasonable and would be a great find on sale. It would be desirable to have clamps holding the base and upper body together for quick trips to the vet; the included bolts could be optional for other travel uses. They could also be a value-added convenience and stand out even further from the sea of choices out there. My vet prefers clamped carriers to doors-only for many of his spidey-like pet patients. Luckily my guy isn't too bad about getting into this carrier. Sometimes I give him treats inside of it, so he doesn't relate it only to negative experiences (i.e. vet visits).

Great product
Bought this to replace one that was too small for my cat. He does not like to be in carriers but the top load makes it less stressful for him to be put in and kept in for rides to the vet. I was worried he wouldn't fit through the top (14 pounds) but it isn't an issue

Perfect for cats. Not so much for flying.
I have had one of these for several years and it makes it so much easier not only getting my cat into it but getting them out at the vet. No more having to drag them out a front door.

However...if you plan on using this for air travel and your pet will be going into cargo (as it will since this won't fit under a seat be aware that many airlines WILL NOT accept this due to the top door. Particularly if it is an international flight. Read everything regarding your airline cargo flight requirements. Air New Zealand for example won't accept this crate nor will Delta. (I have only looked at International requirements as I am moving to New Zealand and taking two cats.)

Top loading should be standard!!
I volunteer with a shelter, so seem to go through many carriers. Now with fostering motherless kittens, I get whatever carrier they're coming in, but now all I want is the top loader! It's almost cruel pulling a cat out of the regular door when they don't want to be at the Vet! The top door even gives the more of a window to look out to feel secure that their human is right there.

Right Size for my Big Kitty
I bought this to replace a smaller cat carrier that was too cramped for by big tom cat. We haven't needed to use it yet but I've left it out so he can try it. Predictably, he's ignoring it totally. However, it looks like it will hold him comfortably. He hates being confined to a cat carrier, so the test will be how well it holds up to his thrashing around.

I chose this model for the size and the availability of a top door. The top door is a good size so I'm hoping it will be easier to stuff him into it while he's thrashing and clawing.

Assembling it was a hassle. The plastic wing nuts need to be redesigned. They are hard to screw in and generally a pain. Old fashion metal wing nuts might be better.

Great for Guinea pigs
I've been using this to take my two guinea pigs to the vet and back and on fire-alarm evacuation drills. Works really well. Easy to take apart and put back together. Having two doors makes it easy to get the girls in and out too

Very good for bunnies
I have two bunnies. I bought this from a local pet shop when I first got the bunnies so I could transport them safely to the vet. Since then it has been excellent for taking them with us on car trips for vacation. I can fit both bunnies in here (they are smaller: 5.5 pounds and 4.5 pounds and both bunnies can stretch out. I put yesterday's news and hay in the bottom as a cushion. The flat bottom makes it possible to have this bedding without needing a cushion. They don't seem interested in chewing it but it is very sturdy so if they tried it would probably stand up to it. The top door is extremely important for bunnies as they won't be shoved into a space they don't want, but instead can be gently set down and lifted out through the top. I have the 24 inch size so if you have a big bunny I would only put one in this carrier. It is very sturdy and keeps them safe in the car, and has good ventilation so they don't get heat stroke even if we are stuck in traffic. The top door is also nice because it allows them to be easily checked on. I have used it for two years now and it still looks like new. The only suggestion I have is to make sure to tighten the wing nuts every so often as regular use can jostle them and they get loose. Two fell off but I was able to easily order replacements from Petmate. All in all this is an excellent carrier for bunnies.
