Product Summary:

The RESCUE!® W·H·Y Trap catches 7 species of paper wasps, bald-faced hornets and European hornets; and 12 species of yellow jackets. The W·H·Y Trap has a top chamber and a bottom chamber. The top chamber is baited with two attractants -- one of which is a solid contained in a vial, and the other a liquid mixed with water. The bottom chamber is baited with a liquid attractant poured onto a cotton pad. Wasps, hornets and yellowjackets have two ways to enter: either through the top cap, or through the holes in the bottom cap. Once inside the trap, the insects cannot fly out and die either by drowning (top chamber) or dehydration (bottom chamber).

  • Non-toxic; no killing agents
  • First and only trap to capture Paper Wasps, Bald-faced Hornets and European Hornets
  • Two-week attractant kit included, refill available
  • No extra food bait required
  • Catches queens in spring before they build nests
  • Catches workers from summer through fall
  • Double-chambered design prevents insects from escaping
  • Durable construction holds up for multiple seasons
  • Attractant will not lure beneficial honeybees
  • Made in the U.S.A.

Item Specifications:

Directions for use:
The RESCUE!® W·H·Y Trap can be used outdoors wherever there is a paper wasp, hornet or yellowjacket problem. We recommend the trap be placed at least 20 feet away from an outdoor activity area, such as a patio or deck. Generally speaking, the W·H·Y Trap will capture more paper wasps near a house structure, and more hornets and yellowjackets near a natural setting of bushes and trees. It can be highly effective to place multiple traps around the perimeter of a yard or area where insects are entering. The trap should also be placed at least 20 feet away from a known yellowjacket nest.

The RESCUE!® W·H·Y Trap can be used in early spring when the queen paper wasps, hornets and yellowjackets emerge from overwintering to look for new nest sites. It can also be used throughout the summer and fall to capture foraging wasp, hornet and yellowjacket workers.

Still empty after over a week
Bought them, set them up per instructions, hung them. And they are still hanging over a week later without a single wasp or yellow jacket in them. Perplexed by this, I moved one closer to the house to an area where we already have a lot of wasps. Not a single one has shown interest in the trap. They fly around it all day but never land on it or try to enter. It's almost comical. Too bad. Rescue fly bags are the absolute best on the market. But they missed the mark on these wasp and yellow jacket traps!

This product works better with humming bird nectar.
I have hummingbird and oriole feeders in my yard in the springtime. the bees are attracted to the feeders so I place the traps near to them. By doing that it greatly reduces the number of bees on the feeders. Before I started using the WHY traps it was almost impossible for the birds to feed. It seems they are afraid of the bees. The traps are also used at a bottle and can return where the bees are attracted to beer and soda containers. The traps reduce the possibility of customers and employees getting stung.

Best wasp removal
I have had a wasp problem on my roof deck for a long time. I tried this product since I had exhausted most other options. I was amazed at the number of wasps caught in a short period of time. The water does evaporate quickly, so it is important to make sure the you have enough water in the top section. I was able to get about 10 days from the original water supply, but I added more water and the trap continued to remove wasps from my deck. It seems to me that it works the best in the shadier side of the roof deck. The water does not evaporate as quickly and there seem to be more wasps visiting the trap when it is in a shady area. I also noticed that as soon as I installed this trap, no more wasp nests were made in the area.

Kinda works.

Why did you choose this? Store
Bought four traps last year. They worked so well I decided to buy the attractant refills

If placed properly, these will pretty much wipe out the yellow jackets. And they'll catch a fair share of of Japanese hornets too.

Why can't it ship to California?
A shopper on Mar 31, 2015
BEST ANSWER: California Only - Pesticide Sale Restriction

A pesticide is any substance intended to control, destroy, repel, or attract a pest. Any living organism that causes damage, economic loss, transmits or produces disease may be the target pest. Pests can be animals, insects, unwanted plants and weeds, or microorganisms such as plant diseases, viruses or bacteria. Before being sold or used in California, all pesticides must be registered with both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR). Pesticide products typically sold in retail stores include: Algaecides, Fungicides, Herbicides, Insecticides, Rodent Poison, Repellants and Disinfectants & Sanitizers. If a product fails to meet California use requirement, TABcom, LLC will restrict product shipment to comply with California state law.
Is this for the actual trap or refill?
Smiles on May 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The trap should cost around a little over $9.00. The refills cost around $3.50. Both are on sale right now for 25% off. The prices I gave here include the 25% off. The trap can easily be cleaned and new refills used in the original trap. The refills cannot be used in another system because it is designed specifically for the W-H-Y trap. I have found these to be very good at reducing the number of wasps on my deck.
