Product Summary:

Tough1® 1200D Waterproof Poly Snuggit Turnout Blanket

The Tough1® Poly Snuggit Turnout Blanket is made of 1200 Denier waterproof ripstop poly outer shell with 210 lining and 200 grams of poly fill. The adjustable Snuggit neck allows you to customize the fit of this blanket to your horse, while shoulder gussets allow freedom of movement and help to prevent shoulder rubbing. A double-sewn heavy nylon binding secures material and provides additional durability. The reinforced, double-sewn stress points offer additional reinforcement to help prevent tears, while the fleece wither helps provide protection from rubbing. The adjustable elastic leg straps help to secure the blanket and prevent from shifting from side to side, and the tail cover provides additional protection from moisture.

  • 1200 Denier Poly, heavy material strength, recommended for horses that may bite or chew on blanket or horses turned out with a companion or in groups. Material may tear or rip if caught on a nail, rough fencing or thorns from bushes.
  • 200g Polyfill provides medium warmth and protection from wind and rain
  • 210 Denier Poly Lining prevents rubbing and helps to keep the coat shiny while preventing hair, shavings, and straw from sticking to the inside of the blanket
  • Waterproof, coated outer shell with taped seams and seamless spine repels water to keep your horse dry
  • Breathable to allow moisture vapor to pass wick away from the horse and preventing sweating while retaining body heat and repelling outside coldness
  • Adjustable double buckle front with snap closures
  • Low cross, easily adjustable surcingles with T-Lock fasteners (see blanket fitting guide to ensure correct fit)

Horses Turned Outside Without Shelter:
Tough1® Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are waterproof and designed to keep your horse dry. However, if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours, your horse may still get wet, especially in the neck and tail areas.
When using a blanket or sheet it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat. When a blanket is too heavy, the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough, causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth.
When selecting a blanket, take into account your horse’s behavior, environment, or other horses that may be turned out with your horse. The lower the Denier number, the less strength the material has. 420 Denier and 600 Denier are not recommended for horses that bite, chew, or rub on blankets, or for horses turned out with a companion or in a group.
Always ensure your horse’s blanket is properly fitted and all straps are adjusted correctly. If a blanket is too tight or too loose, straps may break and material may tear. For younger horses or horses turned out with a companion or in groups, it is recommended to purchase 1200 Denier or 1680 Denier material as these are stronger materials and are less likely to tear.
Certain types of fencing, such as barbwire, or foreign objects, such as nails, will easily tear any blanket no matter what the Denier. Always inspect the area in which your horse is kept to remove any nails or jagged fencing that may cause damage. There are no horse blankets that are guaranteed to not rip or tear.

Why did you choose this? Store
The price was great along with positive reviews to back up the item. The color choices were also great, allowing to buy different colors for each horse just in case someone else has to blanket them. Didn't need anything super heavy just enough to keep them warm when Colorado weather decides to rapidly change.

I have a pony that is really tough on blankets. This seems to be the only one that holds up for him.
Sharon C on Jan 14, 2019
I have other Tough-1 blankets and find they perform very well. Decided to stick with what has worked well so far. I'm especially interested in the adjustable neck for the gelding who will wear this blanket; his present one doesn't have that. Hope the adjustment will fit better.
Mary F on Dec 29, 2018
Great blanket for the price.
My mare's blankets slip down on to the wither, this snuggit stays put.
They do runs small, she wears a 80 or 81" depending on the maker- I ordered the 84" as the neck is adjustable.

Quality and value. This is the fourth one I have purchased in 3 years. Just got a new horse and of course he needs a bigger blanket.
Jan K on Nov 25, 2018
One of my horses grows out a very thick and warm coat, however in extremely cold temps, I do like to blanket; this weight works well, he is notoriously 'hard' on blankets and sheets but has not really damaged Tough 1- 1200D as quickly as other brands. The blanket fits varied 'shaped' horses very well, is adjustable, and seems comfortable for him!
Christie A on Nov 24, 2018
This is the second time I have purchased this blanket. I have had one that lasted 3 years. Lil just stepped on one of the stomach straps and pulled it off. I will add a new strap to the one I have but in the mean time, getting a new one. Comfortable, keeps the horse dry and warm. She lies down on it with no issue.
Elizabeth R on Nov 18, 2018
Bought one last year for another horse and love the quality, fit and durability.
Michael C on Nov 16, 2018
I ordered my first one about a month ago. It fit so well, was easy to adjust for my 'difficult-to-fit' gelding, that I decided to order a second one for my slightly larger, also difficult-to-fit older gelding. Movement is not restricted and the blanket offers good protection from the icy winds. A good product!

Kristin B on Oct 23, 2018

Karen O on Oct 20, 2018
1200 D is an adequate quality to try to limit tearing of the clothe. 200-300 fill is appropriate weather protection for this climate. Have own many Tough-1 brand in the past. They do well in holding up although all of them are going to tear no matter what brand you use. Horses are destructive.

600 D was only water repellent. Our horse was soaking wet from the first turnout blanket. The 1200D will keep him dry from the rains when we get them, but since we are in CA, the 200 g should be more than enough to keep our big black boy warm.

i have a 15.3-16 hand warm blood that is medium to thick bodied. He measures out to a 75". I have heard that this blanket runs small so should i order a 78"? A 78" seems a bit large...
A shopper on Oct 29, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I use a 78 for my 15-1 hand Haflinger. He's not fat, but typical big shouldered, full bodied Haflinger build. I find the fit is quite good. The new one I bought a few months ago does seem a tad less generous in the chest area than my older one, but with the Velcro, adjustable straps and Snuggit neck, I was able to make it work. I do use a lycra shoulder guard underneath to protect him from shoulder rubs, since he is trace clipped in the winter. If I were going to put any kind of fleece or quilted under layer on him for extra warmth, I would likely order an 81. I do love this blanket for features and affordability.
i live in California. Few nights are freezing. Is this the best weight blanket for my horse?
A shopper on Oct 7, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Kasey A: I live in Sacramento, CA. Normally it rains during the winter but this year has been the exception. My Paint mare is a bit hot blooded or thin skinned (sometimes the terms is used on TB horses because they have a very sleek coat). I normally use a blanket with a 220-250 fill and when it drops below 32 degrees, I add a quilt liner that adds another 80 fill. So it can very depending on your horses breed, length of coat and climate when buying a blanket. I feel it's best use a mid-weight blanket and add a liner rather than having just one heavy blanket. That way I can add or subtract depending on the weather. Plus don't forget if you use a Slinky underneath it will add warmth to the horse and help it's coat at the same time. Good Luck!!
What can I do to make this blanket keep being water proof year after year?
Cynthia T on Jun 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I see no need to add chemicals to this blanket by spraying anything extra on it as some others have suggested. There is absolutely no reason to subject you or your horse to breathing that stuff in. The waterproofing on this blanket will hold up if you simply wash it once a year with mild detergent and then let it air dry thoroughly. I have had this blanket for several years now, wash it once a year and it is still going strong and just as waterproof as the day I bought it.
If I buy a 78" blanket is that at its maxed out setting or at the tightest setting?
coldrider on Dec 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: With 6 horses, we go through a lot of blankets. However these blankets have worn really well. The manufacturer seems to plan the size for the middle setting on the front buckles, so not to worry.
My horse usually wears a 76" blanket. Wondering if the 75" would be ok or should I go to the 78"? Just worried the 78" will be too big.
ahorse owner on Oct 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If your horse is a full bodied horse a 78" should be fine. There are plenty of ways to adjust this blanket for a custom fit. Better with a little more blanket then not enough!
my horse is 14.3hh, she is very long bodied though. my trainer said to get her a 78" does that sound right?
Maryssa on Oct 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: You need to measure the side of the horse from center of chest to the tail, Stateline usually has a diagram and instructions on how to do this. This will give you a measurement that you possibly have to round up to the next size. 78" sounds a little big We had a Morgan that was 14.3hh and he measured 74" but was not long bodied. Our Thoroughbred 15.2hh and takes a 76". So the best thing is to measure. Hope this helps!

Will this fit a large warmblood?
A shopper on Jan 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: My horse is an Appendix Quarter Horse very large well built similar to a warmblood. 16 3. This blanket fits him beautifully with room to spare. Very strong very tough and has become my absolutely favorite blanket! love the hardware and I love the construction. It has lasted longer than any of my other blankets. I have also used it on my Clydesdale thoroughbred cross and it fits her as well.
Hi; Because of the high adjustable/neck on this would I measure my horse different for this kind of blanket?
Judy L on Sep 29, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I found that this blanket runs a little large, but the adjustable neck gives your horse a custom fit. Fantastic blanket!
Is there an issue with using a turnout blanket as an indoor "stable blanket" as well?
Mary Jo C on Nov 12, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I guess it would depend where you live. I live in Sacramento, California. I don't have an indoor stable, just a shelter to protect from wind and rain and it is more than adequate. In fact, when my horse sees me coming with his "blanky", he meets me half way. If you live in a really cold area, with snow and wind, I would say it would most likely work well since barns aren't weather proof from cold, snowy winds.
I am from Arkansas, would this blanket be too hot for my horse, hes a 16 yr old gelding?
Ashlee on Jan 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I purchased this blanket to use on my horses in 20-40 degree weather that can be damp or completely rainey and wet. One grows a slightly thivker coat and one only a moderate coat. It seems to keep both comfortable. Wehn I remove during the drier, sunny days, coats are dry, so no sweating or dampness. Nice for hauling on those 35-40 degree mornings, too. Yes, I would recommend this blanket for a medium winter blanket. My horses have a three sided shelter but like to be outside most of the time.
having trouble putting it on my horse?
A shopper on Nov 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It's very easy. Undo the belly straps and chest lobster claw clips (pulling apart the velcro). Now you can place the blanket on your horse with the chest opening towards his head and the fuzzy collar to his neck. Once the blanket is draped over your horse so it's even from front to back an side to side, you just need to secure it. The chest part gives you velcro, lobster claws with 2 ring positions each and buckles to get a custom fit for your horse. I used the velcro as a starting point and adjusted everything else from there. You don't want to restrict his movement by making it too tight from front back! Now, secure the 2 belly straps and adjust as necessary for a snug comfortable fit. There are two leg straps for both rear legs. Undo one lobster claw clip on each side and reach from behind your horse on the inside of his leg to grab the strap and secure it back to the blanket again making sure it's comfortable for you horse. Now your horse will be snug and warm!
I am looking for a blanket just for cool overnights when we are out camping, when overnight temps drop below 40F would this be too heavy? I dont need a "winter" blanket, just something to keep the dew and chill off when we are camping overnight.
Amanda Y on Sep 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: At 200 grams this is considered on the lighter end of the medium weight category. It would depend on your horse's hair coat thickness whether it would be too much insulation at 40F. With any blanket, it's always a good idea to check periodically whether the horse is warm enough or too warm.
will it be a good warm blanket for cold winters in NH?
aliciaa on Dec 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Has worked great for me. Here in inland Western Washington our temps will drop into the teens or even single digits a few times during the winter. The blanket has held up better than any I have owned before. It's made a whole year with no damage to the blanket or straps and my boy is hard on blankets.
Is 75 big enough for a 15 hand horse?
A shopper on Feb 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: We use a 75 on our 5.1 mare, but each horse is individual. If you haven't already, measure your horse to make sure you purchase the correct size.

There are plenty of sites and videos with instructions, but here's the gist:
Take a flexible fabric measuring tape or a string. Measure from the center of your horses chest to where you want it to stop. This measurement (in inches) is your blanket size. If using a string, lay it on the ground and measure it.
My blanket outer shell is absorbing rain water and becomes heavy. Is this suppose to happen? Is there a waterproofing spray to recoat the blanket?
LaurenB on Dec 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: My blanket usually gets heavy in the rain too but my horse stays dry underneath. I think as long as the horse stays dry it's still waterproof. If your horse isn't dry I'd try scotch guard to try and re waterproof it. Works really well on camping tents! Not sure how breathable it would still be but I think it would probably make it water proof again!
I need an 86 size for a 17 hand high thoroughbred? what do you suggest? Anything for Winter weather 30 degrees or below? Warmest best blanket for durability..? Waterproof?
Natalie A on Nov 13, 2014
BEST ANSWER: this is an excellent cold weather turnout blanket. It holds up well to NORMAL horse conditions. (if your horse is tough on blankets, this one MIGHT snag????) and I would get more fill than 200g. I live in CA where it doesnt get too cold and these are perfect. You might want 300 fill for temps below freezing.
with that said... I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the way these fit my mares with high withers! NOTHING fit them as good as these.
Does this blanket come with leg snaps, or do these need to be purchased separately?
Marylee L on Nov 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The blankets I ordered came with the leg straps, they did not have to be ordered seperately. Can't say enough about how much I Iike these blankets. I have been using them since winter of 2016 and they are still going strong.
what size blanket fits a14.2 hand horse?
A shopper on Nov 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The height of the horse is not really a factor in buying a blanket. It's the length of the horse from the middle of the chest to the middle of his tail. There are lots of youtube videos explaining how to measure your horse for a blanket.
will this fit a horse with a very large neck?
A shopper on Apr 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: My horse has an average size neck. This turnout would fit a larger horse, for sure. But I am not sure about "very large". It's a good quality blanket. You could try a size larger than you usually buy to get that neck effect.
I have a Appandix Quarter horse and I was wondering if a 72 would fit him?
A shopper on Nov 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You would need to measure your horse. The shoulders are not really wide, if that is the question. It fits my Arabian great, with the snuggit pulled a little at the neck.
Is this a good winter blanket for cold climates?
A shopper on Nov 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I live in the south and we blanket only when temps dip into the 20's. We are having an unusually cold winter this year and our horses have pretty thick coats this year but this blanket seems to be perfect. Not too much or too little. I think there's a blanket in this brand with a little more fill, like 300 g if you need more. These are really good blankets for the price.
How do you measure a horse for turnout blanket?
A shopper on Jan 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Stand your horse as square as possible. Measure from the center of the chest along the side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If your horse ends up measuring between sizes, choose the one closest to your measurement unless your horse is particularly big-bodied.
Measuring is usually best done with a helper and a soft or cloth measuring tape. Take the measurement twice to be sure.
My horse is wet from freezing rain. Can I put this blanket on him when he is till damp?
A shopper on Feb 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can! My horses have gotten drenched before I could make it out to blanket them and I put these blankets on over their wet coat. It might eventually start to smell if used while wet repeatedly. Once the weather clears up I hang them on the fence line to air out.
Are the surcingles attached to the blanket with elastic or stitching that will tear out if the horse gets hung up in the straps?
