It's still my first choice if you have to use one of these, I just liked the older version better because it was easier to work with.
This is my second one of these. The first lasted about 5 yrs and I loved it. So when that one finally gave up, only because the horse caught it on something and the "v" part got ripped loose, I ordered another. There is one difference in the new one.....instead of a snap it has velcro. The snap allowed you to slip the headstall over the ears and then you used the snap under the troat latch, much like a halter. Now you have to unfasten the velcro, bring that strap over the head behind the ears and fasten the velcro (no snap under) which is pretty secure , but the first time the horse wore it out in the rain, then rolled in the mud the outside velcro came loose. The muzzle did not come off, but I then had to take it and scrub the mud from the velcro so it would work again. Just not as easy as it was with the throat latch snap......the reason for 4 stars and not 5.........I love that it has larger breathing holes in this hot weather and the v strap definitely makes it alot more difficult for a horse to shed it.

The best grazing muzzle we have used.
Stays on, easy breathing & Rosie seem more comfortable in it. As a laminitus prone horse she is in it always for pasture time - 12 hours / day every day. We are going to buy 2 more.

    Works well.
I would like to see a thicker rubber. My horse goes through muzzles about every 45 days. No one on the internet has them with thicker rubber.

    Good, but a few negatives
Had to add real fleece at the point were V meets the muzzle and soft fabric over the rings at the cheeks. My horse is a Fjord (small draft conformation) so at the jaw it is adjusted to max. but fits and adjusts well in all other areas. I have NOT had a problem with her getting it off. The muzzle was back ordered and I could not wait for it. So I ended up finding one an hour away for a bit more $. I think the next size up would be too large.

This is by far the best grazing muzzle! The straps over the nose prevent my pony from rubbing his muzzle along the ground and slipping it off. I also like the large nostril openings as I think it is not as hot and easier for them to breathe thru. My pony, as are most, is an aggressive grass eater and he does get a rub sore on side of mouth and on chin where the seams of the basket and nylon straps attach. Haven’t figured out how to prevent this yet.

Seems well made for the price
It seems sturdy enough but To date I have not managed to get it to stay on over a full night.. it hasn’t broken yet, but I find it somewhere in the field still done up. I haven’t seen how he is taking it off, or if one of his buddies is pulling it off- it has multiple adjustments, I have it as high on his face as I can without smooshing his lips - next option is to put a halter over it for more stability.

Using the muzzles because I have one horse with Cushings and one pony that never lifts his heads. Works great. The pony has only gotten the mask off once last season.

This is an upgrade from the economy halter for me. I will have to see how it works out. the Economy muzzle only lasts a year, if that.
    Diane T on May 27, 2018
I have the same one for my mini, and it's the first design he hasn't been able to escape from. I have two "plump" mares as well (pony & full sized) and think they will benefit from being able to safely be turned out on grass with a muzzle.
    Jessica M on May 22, 2018
I have a standard Tough-1 and love it, but my houdini horse can pull it over his nose. This one looks like it will foil his attempts! He is an air fern, so needs his grazing limited.

This is my third purchase. The V style stays on my big gelding well. It takes him about all summer to chew the hole larger, but it still slows his grass intake down. I do wish the hole started smaller. He can breathe and drink easily in this halter
    Jill M on Mar 31, 2017
I liked the design allowing for more air at the nostrils, as well as the v fit across the nose.

    Gary C on Feb 4, 2017
I chose the V so it would stay on as that seems to be the biggest complaint other than the hole being too big. I ordered the Horse size, so I hope I am not just paying for two way freight for a two small Muzzle.

I recently had to have my horse begin using a grazing muzzle. As you all know, she is stalking around the pasture begging for me to take pity and release her from her grazing muzzle. I hope this muzzle's breathing holes at-least allow her more freedom.

I chose this muzzle because it looks less claustrophobic than the othersâ?¦.also the reviews were very positive. Hope it works on my fat horse!

i want to make sure to get the right size. how and where do i measure to find the right measurements?
crown ? throatlatch? V? depth? around?
    Pat A on Mar 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I would measure the circumference of your pony's muzzle. This muzzle is 5" deep and is 19" around, so check to see if this size would properly cover your pony's mouth and the nose holes line up correctly. The crown adjusts from 17" to 25" so as long as the muzzle fits around the pony's muzzle correctly the crown should adjust to fit the pony just fine. When you measure your pony if the muzzle is going to be too big or too small go to the mini or horse size to get the right fit.

What are the dimensions of the square opening for them to graze out of?
    Carrie R on May 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the opening on the horse size is as described, about 2" x 1-1/2", but I believe should be smaller. My mare appears to be able to graze almost as much as she would like. I continue to use it, however, as it is very well made and most importantly is comfortable for her, particularly the large holes for breathing and the v-strap that helps to keep the basket off her nose. Great product, just wish the grazing hole was quite a bit smaller!
Is this muzzle have a breakaway feature?

    does pony size fit Arabs?
    A shopper on Apr 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I believe it would. It is the best grazing muzzle I've ever used. Mine is being worn by a very refined QH mare. She has a beautiful Arab sized muzzle. I'd give it a go. I tried at least five types before seeing this one. It's the only one she has absolutely no issues wearing. Opening for eating/drinking is excellent, nose holes perfect, cross straps over top of nose actually work and keeps it in place. Superior product.
What is the circumference of the horse size tough 1?
    Cindy P on Mar 14, 2017

Do you have these muzzles in oversized? We have large warmbloods

BEST ANSWER: Yes this muzzle comes in large horse which should work for your warmbloods.
Can you leave this muzzle on all the time?
    Shelley D on May 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: If you're horse has to be out on pasture 24 hours a day I'm not sure they could get enough grass. Our horses are out about 5 hours a day and are hungry when they are called in. It's a good muzzle, but I did have to use sheepskin and mole skin for rub spots. Just got Green Guard muzzles this year and that might be a better bet for 24 hours. Much pricier then breath easy.
what is the measurement on the yearling Tough1 grazing muzzle? Is it between pony & horse size?
    Patricia A on May 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: In our line of products, Cob and Yearling are often synonymous. The measurements are as follows: 26-17 crown (adjustable), 8-5.5" cheek(adjustable), 7" diameter across the muzzle. The inside diameter of the muzzle is 20.5 inches.
I have a clydesdale that really needs her grass intake restricted. What size is the large horse?
    Yvonne P on May 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have a warmblood that used the horse sized muzzle. I think the large horse would probably work, but I ultimately made lots of adjustments to make mine work. There are adjustable straps to make the fit just how you like it. It should be about 2 inches from the mouth, and make sure he’ll drink with it. My horse pouted for a few days before he got the “hang” of it. I had to cut the holes larger and line the muzzle with a softer material to keep from causing rub sores. I had to frequently change out the material due to it getting grimy. However, the muzzle was very effective in keeping my horse from gaining too much weight over the summer. Hope that helps.
What size for a mini donkey, mini?
    CAROLYN K on Feb 26, 2018

I've only had my grazing muzzle for a week, and I am having trouble with the velcro staying fastened. Can anyone tell me how I might keep it fastened? I clean the velcro every day of mud and grass, but it still comes apart. Really, if I'd known it fastened with velcro I probably wouldn't have bought it. I had a different style of muzzle and it had velcro fasteners - I fought them constantly.
    A shopper on Nov 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: We wrapped duct tape around the Velcro closure to keep dirt and debris out.
How am I measuring crown for a mini muzzle?
    Cathy M on Apr 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The crown measurement runs from the cheek ring on one side, up behind the ears down to the cheek ring on the other side.
