Does this saddle distribute weight evenly, or does the girth and stirrups put weight onto the horse's withers?
A shopper on Sep 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Please contact our customer service department and we would be more than happy to look into that for you!
Is this saddle durable? I'm looking to replace my old leather saddle, and am interested in something treeless and synthetic, but I want it to last a long time. I also want to start conditioning my horse for longer endurance-type rides, so will this saddle work fine for that as advertised?
Elizabeth on May 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: So far it does appear to be durable. So far it is my go to saddle here. I have many others all very high quality leather saddles and this saddle is what I pull out first. It is very light weight and more comfortable than I thought it would be. It has far surpassed my expectations. I love the fact the D rings allow you to add whatever one needs to this. I have added a breast collar more stability when getting on and off. I am short and a little on the heavy side so on some horses I pull pretty hard to get on. I do use a mounting block but have found if needed I can mount from the ground.
Does this saddle fit Arabian horses?
Sarah R on Apr 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It will depend on the size and build of your Arabian. I use it on my 3 year old Belgian/Haflinger cross, she is about 15.3h and a normal weight with average to below average muscle definition. She was a neglect case, rescued a year ago. She has been in light to moderate Western-pleasure training (she is my trail horse) for the last 5 months so she is not as muscular as some of the other horse at our barn. The nice thing about this saddle is that it is as close to a one-size fits all as you can probably get with a saddle. (no tree!) I keep the cinch/girth on the 4th or 5th notch so it will fit both a smaller and a bigger horse with zero issues. If not, change the cinch/girth and I am sure your Arab will fit. Over-all this saddle is fantastic, I do recommend it. The materials feel somewhat cheap, especially the stirrups, but so far they have held up very well in the few weeks I've been using it. (I did have to poke new holes to raise the stirrups so if you're shorter than 5'9" I recommend you do the same) Happy riding!
Is it made in USA?
CHARLENE S on Jul 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No.
How is the seat size measured? Is there a difference in seat measurement between this saddle and an English saddle? If so, what is the equivalent English seat size in this saddle?
A shopper on Jul 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the sizing is English for this saddle.
What is the exact weight of this saddle?
A shopper on Aug 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 7.5 lbs
What is a treeless saddle?
A shopper on Nov 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It doesn't have the ridge support that is usually wood or a hard plastic through the center of the saddle. That is what gives a lot of support which you will need when jumping, going faster than a Trot or doing anything with a lot of shifting. Treeless is good for trails, pleasure, and mild endurance. I will say that although I like treeless saddles, I wouldn't recommend this one. It is very cheaply made. I had straps break the first time I used it and the bucks for the stirrups are very uncomfortable even with the little guard that's provided.
Can you jump in such a saddle?
A shopper on Sep 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It's really up to the rider. This saddle is similar to a bareback pad. There is no tree to support the rider from the spine of the horse. So if you would jump in a bareback pad and the horse is comfortable with that than go for it. As far as comfort and support for the rider the saddle is amazing. It weighs as much as a saddle pad. It's awesome.
Would this be comfortable for my 14.1h paso fino spotted saddle horse?
A shopper on Jul 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This saddle fit my 15hh Shagya Arabian. He has a broad back and a deep heart girth. The saddle molds itself to the horse's back. Mine is still very new but comfortable and beginning to be the shape of his back as well as where I put pressure in the saddle. The package come with a nice short girth that fits my guy. You might need to get get a shorter girth if your horse does not have a deep heart girth, a wide back or both. More padding under the saddle to take up room does not solve the problem.
State Line has a 30 day return policy as long as the returned saddle is clean and unused looking. For the price of the package, it is definitely worth a try. The bridle, pad and girth really make the saddle package a good buy.
Can the stirrups be adjusted more forwards or backwards to fit rider style?
Kathleen D on Nov 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The velcro system allows for the stirrups to the moved under the detachable seat.
What type of girth rigging , English or western?
A shopper on Feb 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is an engish style saddle and girth. If I remember correctly the girth is 32".
Do you use a saddle pad with this?
K&Ptrail on Jun 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You don't have to use one but I like to use a thin tacky pad to help keep the saddle in place. It can roll on horses if too much weight on one stirrup.
Does the girth have a d ring for a breast plate attachment?
A shopper on Apr 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes there was a ring for breast plate. But, unless you are a small adult, I would not suggest this saddle. The swells in front are a little short, the buckles on the stirrup leathers dig into your leg. There are covers for the buckles, but they did not work well to protect my leg. I do not use mine, I am selling it.
How to mount while in trails?
Lorri C on Apr 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I always place my horse in a low spot, like ditch or something. You could use a fallen tree or other some such. If you're nimble and strong enough, the trick is quickly swinging your weight to the top of your horse while only using the stirrup for initial momentum. It's more like doing a pushup with your arms on the horse's topline rather than putting weight in your stirrup to lift up. Also, use mane! Never rely on the saddle!
Is there a saddle like this but what I can jump in?
Carmie on Apr 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You could jump in this saddle. I'd just worry about the quality and it holding up. Especially where the stirrups attatch. I use this saddle on my old Hunter/Jumper pony who's now mostly retired and a trail pony now. I have had the stirrups fall off. Now I just check them before I get on & it's been great for some pretty mountainous trail riding. Where they attach is hanging on nylon webbing that can get a bit off kilter.
is the saddle pad black?
kathleen k on Jun 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The one that came with my saddle is bright blue, the same as the saddle.
Is the girth removable so I could use one that fits my horse?
A shopper on Mar 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is removable. That is the first thing I changed as I needed to use one of my own. I have many saddles at my disposal, I was pleasantly impressed with what this saddle is for the price.
How does this saddle with with a horse that has a higher whither?
A shopper on Feb 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This saddle is perfect for all shapes and sizes because it is very similar to a bareback pad or saddle. It molds to horse. This saddle was the coolest saddle I've ever seen. It provides comfort to rider and light weight to horse. However because it's like riding bareback I would suggest the extra padding just under the tree/horn. Even a hand towel would be sufficient. That's what I used. Not every horse likes the feeling of being ridden bareback. This saddle does not have a tree so the back of the horse feels the rider. A well balanced rider is a must. The saddle itself weighs just a few pounds like a saddle
Pad. But someone bouncing around on the seat could be painful to withers without padding and balance.
I'm shopping for my old, short backed buddy. Can you tell me the underside measurement of each size? Ie, from front to very end of the back? Not seat size. Thanks!
LYSSA D on Mar 14, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Lyssa, If I understand the measurement you need, my 19" seat measures 22" measured on the underside from the middle of the gullet to the end of cantle.. so extrapolating the 17" I would guess it to be 20"....hope this helps..gotta love these short-backed round partners!
can the stirrup leathers be removed/exchanged for different ones?
barkingdogfarm on Apr 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can change the stirrup straps. Please cover the "new" ones to prevent rubbing I made covers from an old fleece blanket - works just fine.
If I’m using an 18” English saddle will it be better to get the 17” or the 19”?
Iris H on Feb 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: If you use an 18" English saddle you would "probably" want the 19" -- if it's a little too big, that's usually better than a little too small. Unfortunately it's not possible to guarantee fit up front.
How does the size seat compare to western saddle size?
A shopper on Feb 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The medium roughly equates to a Western seat size 14"-15", and the large roughly equates to a Western seat size 16"-17".
I ride western and would like to know if there is any difference riding with this saddle? Does it slip when mounting the horse and how do I measure for the size girth needed.
kathleen k on Jun 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: There are a lot of differences between this saddle and an western saddle... So I won't be able to cover them all. This saddle most resembles a dressage saddle, but I've used it for everything - even western events.
The diffference between this saddle and a western saddle is; no horn, smaller "fenders" (called stirrup leathers in English), narrower stirrups, etc. It is much softer on the butt because this saddle has no wooden/plastic/etc tree. The girth is also different but this saddle comes with a special girth (dressage girth) that will fit this saddle. A normal long English girth will not work. Another difference is this saddle doesn't cover as much of the horse's back, which can be kinda weird for horses if they aren't used to it. Doesn't take long for them to adjust.
The slippage depends on how much you weigh, how long you take to get up there, how tight your girth is and how round your horse is. For the most part, no it doesn't. But it can and will if you are careless.
And as for the girth, you have to measure when you get the saddle. But this saddle does come with a girth! I've used my girth for over a year and it's still like brand new, just dirty.
What is the cantle height of the saddle?
A shopper on Jun 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This saddle can be taken apart by removing the seat to be left with a thick bareback pad. From the bottom of the pad to the top of the cantle measures 6". From the base of the seat to the top of the cantle measures 4"
Is this a good saddle for cross country riding?
Carmie on Apr 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It is very comfortable for the horse as well as the rider!
how to choose size, how do you know seat size?
A shopper on Jan 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I ordered the 19 inch because I wanted my husband to be able to use it. It is also mainly used on my draft x as it is very light weight and I don't need a stool to help me saddle her! The pad is small as well as the girth. Which it looks to be a 26/28 inch. I don't use either one. It does not even fit for my mustang who is 15'1. When I first used it it was very slippery and I got a lot of movement when riding. Also when I dismounted. I was going to return it but found it wasn't worth my time and the little money I would have gotten back for. It. Read the small print.also the stirrup straps are odd and can't be lengthened all the way. My husband is 6'1 and I am 5'4, 145 lbs and like to ride with a long leg. Due to the questionable safety my husband hasn't used it yet. He is a novice. I do continue to use the saddle and am happy I got the 19 inch.
