Better Than Expected
After reading the reviews, I wasn't sure how great this halter would be. For the price, you cannot beat this! The leather has a beautiful color, and yes, it is a little stiff, but I rubbed it down with olive oil and it softened up enough to adjust the headstall. There was zero damage or flaws on the halter. Purchased the weanling size for a mini pony, haven't tried it on yet, but it may be a little big. Definitely recommend for anyone needing a leather halter on a budget.

Real Leather- indeed!
Good product. A bit stiff, but I used the cheek strap release instead of the actual buckle.

I think it is important to have leather halters for all of my horses. Since I run a lesson program, I have several horses to manage. I need to consider safety but cost is also important. This halter did not break the budget but also provides a safe, good looking piece of tack for my lesson horses.

Affordable and classy barn halters. I like the leather as it will break away if caught on anything.
Anne W on Jul 9, 2018
Nylon halters don't tear and I don't want my horse to get in trouble and not be able to get loose. A leather halter is less dangerous for horses, I believe.
MARY V on Jul 6, 2018
I needed a breakaway halter for hurricane season and this will do the job.

I only use leather halters for safety and their classy look. Have ordered these many times before and they are easy to fit, easy to get on and off. They are sturdy, yet break if a horse or colt gets in trouble.

Great value, right size and leather. Don't like snaps as they always break but seems most halters have them now.

For the value. My horses are tuff on halters and for this price I wont mind if it gets lost in the pasture or chewed on when they are playing kissy-face.

What size would you order for a large pony that wears a cob bridle?
A shopper on Dec 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Every horse is different but if your horse takes a cob size bridle it should fit into a cob size halter.
I need my horse's name on this can it get done?
Jamie H on Mar 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No. But you can also purchase a name plate for a couple bucks on here. They're easy to install and last a long time.
That's what I ended up doing, and both the halter and name plate easily lasted two years for me. I don't have the halter anymore because I sold my horse and the halter went with her.
will a pony size fit a colt 6 months old?
David M on Oct 9, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The pony size should fit a 6 month colt. It's adjustable as well so it should grow with him for a while
Is this an easy break halter? I need something that can break if a weanling gets caught
A shopper on Jul 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Don't buy this halter. It is poorly made, and fits awful. It would definitely not be good for a yearling, or really any horse for that matter. Try a Weaver nylon or another State Line brand nylon. Those are better and much more well made
One inch or 3/4 inch?
A shopper on Jul 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 3/4. It’s really poor quality leather though.
What size do I order for a small pony?
A shopper on May 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Here are the standard weight ranges for halters to help you decide:
Suckling --100-200 lbs
Weanling--200-400 lbs
Pony--300-500 lbs
Yearling--500-800 lbs
Average Horse--800-1,100 lbs
Large Horse--1,100-1,500 lbs
Which is larger, the pony size or the yearling size?
A shopper on Dec 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The yearling size is larger - the pony size also has a more petite chin snap
Horse or pony size for an Arabian?
A shopper on Dec 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: GenerallyTough question. Generallty, "horse" size is for larger horses like thoroughbreds, warmbloods and even light draft breeds. "Average" size fits quarter horses and similar. I have worked with Arabians that fit nicely into this "average" size halter. "Pony" will be too small for adult Arabian, but possibly just right for a yearling Arabian. And you can look for "Arabian" size halters as well.
are the buckles silver or gold??????????
A shopper on Nov 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: They are brass colored
what size halter should i order for my mini horse?
A shopper on Aug 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It depends on the weight of your mini. Suckling sizes usually fit animals about 100-200 lbs, and weanling sizes usually fit animals about 200-300 lbs. Unfortunately it's not possible to guarantee fit in advance.
Is ALL of the hardware on this SOLID brass??
Anne M on Oct 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It does say solid brass -
will you be able to take off the nose piece?
A shopper on Feb 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The chin strap is adjustable but the nose is not removable
Can I get a name plate on this halter?
A shopper on Nov 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We do not offer that service.
I have a horse that just turned one in May and I need a leather halter to go with my sheep skin tubing. From one corner of his mouth up behind his ears down to the other corner of his mouth is 41 inches. I want there to be plenty of room so I can use it for a while but I accidentally bought a halter too big and don't want to do it again. He has a pretty big head for his age but I really want it to fit. Does anyone know the measurements of this halter? Really need to know the correct size.
A shopper on Jul 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not provide exact measurements as this halter is adjustable. What size halter did you purchase previously? 41" should fall into the "Pony" size.
