Great for insulin sensitivity and no grazing.
My mare is insulin sensitive so she cannot graze on green grass. Although this mask is for cribbers, it works much better than those masks designed to prevent grazing. All those broke within weeks of putting them on her. This mask with a good halter cannot be rubbed or torn off, and she can graze in the pasture everyday with no ill effects.

Doesn't last long
The Velcro doesn't stay and the aluminum bars ware down and get sharp. Plus where the nylon straps are attached to the muzzle they break.

Smells awful, but works?
I needed a muzzle to keep my young horse from chewing on his pasture mate's blankets. This does the trick and doesn't limit his food intake. However the material used for it and the rubber disk on the inside smell terrible. I threw out the disk and let the muzzle air out for a few days before putting it on my horse. The muzzle still smells pretty noxious, but not as bad. Just something to be wary of, but I guess thats why its so much cheaper than other versions of this same kind of muzzle.

Aluminum muzzle
This is a fine product. It is well made and very sturdy. The rubber disc has really strong oder but I removed it anyway. It removes easily by the way. It is much better than the black sewn strap ones in my opinion and I recommend this product.

not 100% affective
I have purchase 8 of these and we have a cribber that cribs through them breaking aluminum and also Velcro fails

Generally pleased
This muzzle definitely does it's job but a little upset by how restrictive it is when my mare tried to eat hay. She can drink fine with it but I wish there was a solution to make it a little was restrictive

Webbing straps not strong enough
For the price this is a great product! My horse had started cribbing this spring and the regurar strap collars did not work well. This one lets him eat, drink and is good for turnout.Drawbacks:After a few weeks, the velcro webbing started to lose it's grip and had to be sewn together. Then the thin webbing holding the web base to the aluminum base gave way. We also ended up running a strap from the middle of the nose up between the ears to the crown as the nose was sagging. As soon as it gets below freezing, you have to stop using it. I have just ordered 2 more as backup. In the meantime I have gone to a Barclay's collar which is working well.

Horse broke the aluminum grid on three in a row
This muzzle seemed a great idea for a tried and true cribber, butshe actually broke the bars of the the grid , they replaced it, she did it again. It's obviously not made to stand up to it's purpose.

Easy to use
My horse can breath and be able to eat without the fence chewing

My trail horse is an easy keeper and she gets over weight while my barrel horse is a hard keeper. So to keep my easy keeper happy and social she wears grazing muzzle. She can go through a muzzel every couple of months so I thought I would try something different.

Bought in case of a need. Have not had to use yet so can not comment on quality.

Our gelding gets bored and likes to eat the bark off our maple trees in his pasture. He doesn't crib but he's just a pig when it comes to eating. This allows him to eat but keeps his teeth off the tree. We don't use the black round insert.

I bought one a few months ago. It worked well until the barns got broken due to how rough the mare is on it. I bought two so we could have a spare.

I hope it lasts longer than the rubber bottom masks.

My Haflinger foundered last year and did NOT do well recovering in a stall. I had no access to a dry lot, so in desperation I purchased this muzzle and sent him back out to pasture with the geldings. This mask worked perfectly-it controlled his grazing but allowed him to breathe and drink. It did not rub his muzzle raw. The velcro wore out, which is why I'm buying a new one, but I've already recommended it to a friend! (And yes, my boy made a complete recovery!) Would HIGHLY recommend!

My horse over eats, and windsucks. He currently has gone through two nylon muzzles and I am hoping the metal will withstand his naughtiness.

need a muzzle for my 7 month old colt so he doesn't nurse. What can I use ? I have them separated and have had for 3 months now. I need to bring them all together now for winter and don't want him to start sucking again.

BEST ANSWER: Might've too big for a young horse. There is potential for getting muzzle caught on things so I recommend a leather breakaway on the crown piece or a light leather halter. My horse cribbed and managed to break the times on the aluminium piece creating sharp edges Would suggest putting bad tasting stuff in teats
I have a pretty committed cribbed whose miracle collar rubs her as it's had to be adjusted tighter and is basically nonfunctional. She's also a pretty hard keeper and in with a horse who is a total food pig. They are separated for grain, but get hayed together and I'm worried this muzzle will restrict her ability to eat her hay. Any problems with this?
Matvey on Jun 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: My horse wasn't slowed down as far as eating hay and grass. I encountered other issues with the cribbing muzzle. The straps broke pretty soon after he began wearing it, which I fixed with hay string. He also wore through the aluminum pretty quickly grazing with everyday use. I went back to using a thin stirrup leather to prevent cribbing. Works best for him and doesn't cause sores. Hope this helps.
Will this cause sores if used in pasture 24/7? I plan on taking the insert out and using it for a bully in pasture.
Rebecca H on Sep 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Mine has never caused sores (although the chin strap on the halter holding it has, as the muzzle is quite heavy, and puts extra weight onto load-bearing parts of the halter). It would certainly stop biting, but be aware that the muzzle itself could also be used as a "weapon" by a bully. My darling mare who founders easily has inadvertently hurt both me and my gelding by "wholloping" us with the muzzle, by accident! You may want to go with one of the soft, webbing muzzles, although I've found that with ALL of these muzzles, the velcro either falls off or becomes so full of dirt, grass, hair etc. that I'm forced to use duct tape to keep them on. Benefit of this particular muzzle, of course, is that it doesn't get eaten through so quickly and it can be used with a break-away halter.
does this come in a mini size?
Karry T on Sep 29, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Did not see a mini size when I ordered, but don't have a mini. Bought for Arabians and Paint that chew on any wood they can find. Have not used yet due to covering the wood with wire which has stopped them from chewing for now. Would be my last resort to use the muzzle if nothing else worked and wanted it on hand. Must do some training first before just placing on the horse. Some horses would freak out if not introduced first.
Could you provide the dimensions of this product? What is the depth of the muzzle? This needs to fit a 13 hand pony.
Lorrie D on Apr 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm sorry, the manufacturer does not provide exact measurements for this item. It is designed to fit an average horse 800-1,100 lbs.
It appears there is a rubber "bottom" that can be used to reduce grass intake. Is this correct? Does it fit inside the aluminum?
A shopper on Feb 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, there is a removable hard plastic piece that fits inside the aluminum part of the cribbing muzzle which allows the muzzle to do double duty as a grazing muzzle as well. I hope this helps!
Will this fit my Cob size Morgan?
A shopper on Mar 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Because of the design mine fits my 15hh qh mare as well as my 14.3 2 year old qh and even fits my 17hh warmblood. Wonderful construction and none of them have managed to Houdini out of it to date.
