Item Specifications:

Material:
420 Denier poly, light material strength

Measuring Instructions:
Stand your horse as square as possible, and measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If your horse ends up measuring between sizes, always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.

Washing Instructions:
To keep your blanket as comfortable as possible for your horse and to maximize the blanket's life, it is recommended that you clean your blanket annually. First, remove excess dirt from the outside of the blanket with a brush and hose. The blanket can then be washed either by hand, or on a delicate cycle with cool water in a commercial washer. Use only very mild soap. When the blanket has been washed, allow to drip dry and ensure that the blanket is thoroughly dry before storage. Do not put your horse's blanket in the dryer or wash with hot water. Do not store your horse's blanket if damp or wet. This will damage the waterproof coating and void any warranties.

Horses Turned Outside Without Shelter:
Tough1 Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are waterproof and designed to keep your horse dry. However, if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours, your horse may still get wet, especially in the neck and tail areas.
When using a blanket or sheet, it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures, even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat. When a blanket is too heavy, the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough, causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth. Stand your horse as square as possible, and measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If your horse ends up measuring between sizes, always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.

I purchased the Tough-1 420 Denier Closed Front Stable Sheet to keep my mare clean and also to use as a stable sheet over her winter under layers.
Rachael M on Jun 15, 2016
Was looking for a closed-front stable sheet to use on my fillies for shows. This looks like it will be a good fit for them although I did order a larger size due to the comments about this sheet running small. It is a heavier nylon and the fillies did tend to get hot underneath them in the summer. Had to run 2 fans on them to keep them cool.

Is this sheet like a cotten,., want for a day sheet?
A shopper on Aug 17, 2013
BEST ANSWER: No- not cotton
Moved my 3 horses from PA to S Central Fl. Since they grew their northern winter coats, needed to body clip. They have option of run-in shed in night paddock but are usually outside. Is this sheet water-resistant? Any problems with it being "closed front"? Any sizing issues?

Thanks

Barb M on Jan 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I have a larger horse and bought a 78'' and I had no problems with the size. It fit without being too tight or too loose. I live in New Mexico so we don't get a ton of rain but it is water resistant. My mare was stabled with turnout during the day and it has held up well. I fine the closed front is a little more convenient and less of a hassle. As with most blankets the back straps will stretch with time.
Is this sheet waterproof?
Diana R on Mar 7, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No it isn't. Just the usual nylon cover
Are they water proof?
A shopper on Aug 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, stable sheets are not waterproof. You will want to look at turnout sheets/blankets if you need something waterproof!
I have a 19 year old mare that is now in a stable. She is in the 1st stall near an open end where the draft comes in. Our weather can get in the teens at night. Would I need a sheet or blanket? I have never used either so I don't know which way to go. She does have her winter coat. What brand is best for this weather? I don't want her sweating.
Jan H on Nov 9, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The trouble is, the real answer is "it depends." A sheet will keep off drafts and also help keep the horse clean. What many people don't realize, however, is that if a horse has a winter coat, a sheet can flatten the hairs down and eliminate the "loft," or the pockets of skin-warmed air at the base of each hair shaft. A horse can actually wind up feeling colder while wearing a sheet or a light blanket than if they were uncovered.

A blanket needs to be "heavy enough" that it keeps your horse warm even though it flattens her hair coat. The thing is, only your horse can "tell" you what is or isn't working. Most people purchase a medium-weight blanket for cold weather, and a sheet for rainy/cool weather. That is probably a good place for you to start. I recommend turnouts vs. stable blankets since only the turnouts can go out in the weather. If you've never blanketed your horse before, you will need to keep checking underneath it at the shoulders and haunches to gauge whether she's too warm or too cold. Unfortunately the only way to find out is to do it. As a side note, if you don't feel your horse is warm enough, you can layer the sheet over top of the blanket just like layering your own clothes.

Which brand to purchase is also a constant source of discussion among horse owners. Please feel free to call our Customer Care Teamat 888-809-0751 and ask for one of our Equine Specialists. We are available 8AM-6PM weekdays, Eastern time.
How to measure horse for right size blanket?
A shopper on Dec 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Start in the center of your horse's chest, right where it comes into the bottom of the neck, with a cloth tape measure (or string, if you don't have a tape measure). Run the tape measure to the center of the tail. That is your blanket size. If you have a big horse, it's helpful to have a helper!
Have mare, 28, has winter coat, shelter to go under. Looking for a lightweight, waterproof/resistant to protect from wind. Want closed front. Will this blanked include the requirements?
Ruby A on Jan 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I'm not really sure if it will suit your needs. I've only used the sheet in the summer to keep our horse clean over night before a show. I didn't really care for it as I found it was not breathable and my horse would sweat even if it wasn't a really warm night. However, I have not tried it in cold or in wet weather. I have a Weatherbeeta sheet without fill that I recently bought for my pony that I much prefer over this one. I also have a Saxon sheet that I use on our mare and also prefer that one over the Tough-1 sheet. I use them regularly to keep them dry and to keep the wind off.
Does this sheet have back leg straps?
Linda B on Sep 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, there are back leg straps but they are not detachable. They are sewn on one end with clips on the other.
As a sheet, What is the polyfill gm for this if used for weather in teens etc? Does it have the denier poly lining for coat protection? Thank you!!
Margaret A on Jan 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This is a sheet so there is no polyfill, it has a lining just for coat protection. This is a stable sheet so it is not waterproof and i recommended just for use indoors. Thanks!
is the 75in like normal horse size?
A shopper on Jul 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Measuring Instructions - Stand your horse as square as possible, measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If you horse ends up measuring between sizes always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.
