need more support as I get older and a fall would be a bigger deal. At nearly 60, a broken hip would be a big setback!

I wanted a lighter more comforter saddle for my horse and myself, mainly for trail riding.
Wendy W on Nov 24, 2018
My western saddles were much too heavy for me to lift on my horses. I'm hoping these lightweight saddles will be much easier to lift and handle.
Vickie L on Jun 29, 2018
Looking for a lightweight saddle since I am older and the western saddles I had were too heavy for me.

We ride Mammoth donkeys and that the aussie saddles fit their backs better making it a more comfortable ride for all!
Mary D on May 14, 2018
Looking for a decent saddle for a reasonable price to use for trail riding, like the Aussie style, hoping it will fit my 14.5 quarter horse with a high wither correctly.

Saddle is so comfortable but had to tweak it a little. Not for the inexperienced rider.

Does this saddle fit wide or narrow? I have a mutton withered qh, and was told that I need to find a wider saddle than the one I had been using.

BEST ANSWER: -Swell: 19" ear to ear
-Gullet: 7"
I am 5'3" - Would I be able adjust the stirrup straps to be short enough for a 28" inseam? Will the fenders be too long for me? Thanks!
Laura E on Jan 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: you can if you don't mind cutting into the leathers. I was ready to do it because I wanted the saddle. but I am 5' 4" and I just made it, so I would say unless your legs are as long as mine that you will have to slightly fix the leathers. I had to punch a new set of holes which I didn't mind doing to make it work. the leathers widen slightly so you won't be able to punch two sets of holes without cutting into the leathers a bit.. Again I would have had no problems doing that. Another thing I thought of was buying some stirrup blocks
I know Aussie saddles are measured differently from a Western treed saddle. How do you measure theses? I need a saddle equivalent to a 15 inch western treed saddle.

Does this saddle have english billets or western girthing? I have one aussue saddle by Downunder Saddle Supply and it uses English girthing which I prefer. Will it fit a short backed horse?
A shopper on Jun 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Rigging: Aussie

Complete with fittings which includes one pair of fender style (shaped) stirrup leathers, one pair of brass four bar stirrup irons, one leather over girth, and one web girth, usually 34".
I ride in a 17 in English saddle but want to switch to an Aussie for trail riding on my quarter horse mare. I'm 5'7 and where a size 8 jeans with a 28" in seam... I want to be able to post what size Aussie should I order?
A shopper on Aug 1, 2016
Does this saddle come with any of the necessary equipment, girth, flank strap or any of the other needed items?
A shopper on Aug 20, 2013
BEST ANSWER: It comes complete, it has all that is necessary to use the saddle once delivered. The girth is not perfect but useable.
Would it be a possibility to buy this saddle at size 15?
Raina J on Jan 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Smallest size available would be a 16".
How do I determine my size ?
A shopper on Nov 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: An Australian stock saddle is measured 2 inches larger than a western saddle. So if you ride in a western
18 inch saddle, the 20" Australian saddle should be a good fit. To be more accurate, you would need to revise
the question by providing more information as to what discipline, size of horse, and your height and weight.
is this saddle lined with sheepskin or pads?
A shopper on Mar 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It is pads that are covered in kind of a light brown felt like material.
What kind of rigging does this specific saddle come with?
mary s on Nov 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It has 2 straps on one side, and one strap, one ring on other side. It comes with a felt girth that matches that rigging. You cannot use a regular dressage or other 2 buckle girth, nor a western cinch type.
I believe this is standard Aussie rigging, so you can buy replacement girth from Aussie stores. My other Aussie saddle has 2 straps on both sides, so it's more versatile.
Has anyone used this saddle on a draft or draft cross?
Beth M on Oct 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I used my on a gypsy banner. It worked fine. I think it rides better with horses with high withers. They do make an Aussie for wide flat back horses. I plan on checking into them for my flat back horse, but still use this Aussie on my horses. Love it. I must say though you ride in Aussie saddles differently and I felt very unbalanced til I was told. Best ride now
manufacturer?
A shopper on Jun 22, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This saddle is made for JT International/Jacks Tack. Australian Outrider is one of their brands.
Can I swap out the fenders with Western Fenders? I love the stirrups I have right now and they're Western.
Charlotte P on Apr 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The saddle has stirrup strap connectors like a standard english style saddle so answer is: Not likely, however, you can swap stirrups! Otherwise you may need to make cuts/ modifications to your fenders that cannot be undone.
What is the leather strap over saddle seat for?
Martha M on Jul 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: That strap is called the overgirth. It attaches to the extra strap found on many Aussie girths and helps lock the saddle down.
My daughter has a 16 hand thoroughbred with a very very high wither. My daughter is 100 pounds; about 4’10”. What size Australian saddle to you recommend?
Nicole J on Mar 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The saddle should be a good fit for a high withered horse, it has a gap in the padding to allow for withers. I mainly ride western, so my Aussie sizing knowledge is far from excellent, but i bought a 17 and I am 5' 9" and weigh 175. The rule of thumb is +2. In other words if you fit a 15" western, you would use a 17 Aussie. For someone as petite as your daughter, you will probably want a 15 Aussie.
I have an 1/3 arab and 2/3 paso fino, to say she has a shortback is an understatement, I have tried 27 saddles in the last eight months. I ride wester 15 inch, I weigh 110 and I am 5 2, would this be a good saddle?
A shopper on Jul 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you ride western,(and are not familiar with english cinching/pad styles) this saddle takes a little getting used to. You definitely sit it a little different than most western saddles. That being said it is comfortable for me(male, 5' 10'', 185 lbs). I have used this mainly on my mules, but also on our big quarter horse. I have not entirely figured out the best way to keep the saddle pad in place, but due to the contact points being nice to the animal, they don't seem to mind when the pad gets shifted. It will be mainly a pleasure saddle or perhaps small calf roper, but i would not dally if there was a 600 lb calf on the other end of the rope. All in all, it is a decent saddle for the price.
Are the bottom panels wool flocking under the felt (this makes them thicker and adjustable, it would be soft feeling but not really bounce back like foam would) or is it closed cell foam under the felt (it would be thinner/flatter looking and feel squishy and bounce back but not be adjustable)?
j m on Mar 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It is the wool flocking. Very comfortable on my very high withered saddlebred
How do I size an Aussie saddle?
Colleen M on Sep 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: If you're more heavy set in the behind, the 19in will be a good fit. The saddle has a higher back, so you're sitting "into" the seat. There's extra width for plentiful thighs as well. Hope this helped.
I’m 5’5 115lbs would the 16 in be the correct size?
Mrs. N on Jul 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Would work for you. Important question is would it fit your horse? I ordered this beautiful saddle and it didn't fit my horse.
What are the rings behind the knee pads used for?
A shopper on Jun 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I use mine to attach a seat cushion and a phone holder

Someone mentioned that this saddle is NOT leather. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Becky S on May 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Mine came with a warranty and registration card that does give care instructions for leather. There was no mention of it being made of anything else, but leather. I have to admit I have other leather saddles that do appear different. For the price it is fine. The keepers ( small sleeves) on the stirrups were terrible and not leather so I did order leather sleeves for them. Because of medical problems I have only tried it on my horse and have not been able to ride in it.
Is there a photo of the underside of the saddle?
Charles W on Oct 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No there is not. That would be helpful. Didn't fit my horse and had to send back. Beautiful saddle though.
What is the brand?
A shopper on Sep 8, 2018
