The design of the pad is good and the reviews were convincing that this was the best pad for the money.

The customer reviews were key. I have ridden bareback most of my life. The light weight will be perfect and the reviews sound as though the pad will help to provide a pretty stable seat.

I actually have been looking at this bareback pad for years. And decided with it being on sale to just take the dive. I like that it has non-slip for horse and rider, that it has an actual cinch and that you are not sitting on a strap like some of the others that I have looked at. In addition to that I see this has dee rings that will be convenient and useful.

I borrowed someone else's the other day and my horse and I were surprised how nice it was. I never ride bareback and I felt completely comfortable at all 3 gaits. He was much happier--it makes me think his saddle needs a fitting.

This bareback pad has a sticky seat, helps to keep me on board during figure 8's, etc. After I got the pad, I realized most of the others in the barn who have bareback pads have this one, too.

Bought this on sale and have enjoyed using it. The next best thing bareback pad will be one I custom design and make out of some nice shearling, quality memory foam and just having simple billets so I can use my horse's normal English girth. That way, I can put it on my Belgians or Morgans!

Sounded good. Turned out GREAT! I am a bareback rider, but now have 2 step daughters who want to ride. I don't want their learning to cause grief w/ their other mother when they fall off and say they didn't have anything to hold onto (lol). I added a leather strap upfront for a little something to hold onto, and both the girls and the horses love it. I actually tried it out the other day and was REALLY impressed. It's super comfortable, stays in place, and gives the rider a lot of grip.
REBECCA R on Sep 13, 2016
Nice pad. Wanted to try riding with a bareback pad and reviews for this one were good, price was good and it works well. I don't yet though.
Susan B on Sep 3, 2016
Read the reviews and wanted to try riding "bareback"- hope my horse is as willing also. I'm 65 yrs young and my horse has never been rode bareback! Wish me lots of luck!!!
Jonni S on Jun 20, 2016
I love this bare back pad! Make sure you use the girth that comes with it and don't try to switch to a different one. If you do, things get weird and the pad doesn't fit right. Been very pleased with this! My guy got very skinny and bony and this was some nice added cushion when riding bareback.

I always rode bareback when I was younger. I read some of the reviews and hope that this will help with my back issues. Have several ruptured disc and an surgery last May to remove a 5cm tumor off my spine so I am in need of comfort. I am looking forward to it's arrival.

I ride with a youth bareback drill team. Over the last year I have tried different bareback pads and found this to be the best on the market. Four things make this pad amazing - it's comfortable and conforms to the horses shape, with a low profile girth that does not interfere with my leg cues, and it does not slip or slid when the horses. sweat.

what is the difference between this and the Thin Line Comfort Plus bareback pad?
CarolinaRoamer on Jan 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't have any experience with the Thin Line, but we LOVE our two Comfort Plus bareback pads. We use the pads on ALL five of our horses, four our 4-H kids who are just learning to ride, as well as for our own riding. he pads are very comfortable even on our high withered horses, and provide a lot of grip so the kids can relax their legs and still feel secure. The girth is stretchy so we always re-tighten after we ride for a couple of minutes.
Does it include stirrups or is there a way to attach them?
A shopper on Nov 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No stirrups or way to attach them. This is the best bareback pad ever! We will buy several more. You should never us stirrups on a bareback pad or saddle that does not have a tree. It's bad for your horse.
How are the straps attached? Do they go all the way around to the other side or just sewed to the material? Are the dees in front strong enough to attach a breastplate to? Thanks.
Lila B on Feb 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The straps are sew into the fabric and the girth has neoprene on the underside, which makes it not slip. The fact that it is contoured to the horses back makes for no bunching, and is very comfortable to ride! I have not had any slipping and did not find a need for a breastplate. the D rings are too close together, and I use them for a "jump strap" to have something other than mane to hold onto.
can you canter and jump in it or does it slip?
leisel on Sep 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: My daughter canters in this pad all the time and has never expressed there is slippage. I have never had a problem either, though I don't use it as much. We don't do a lot of bareback jumping but she also said she never has had a problem when she has jumped with it. We have had this pad for almost 2 years and are really pleased. It has held up very well. Ours still looks almost new and we ride in it a few times each week.
would this bareback pad be good for a high withered horse?
Cheri F on May 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I ride an OTTB with fairly high withers and a very bony spine which is what led me to buy a bare back pad. I found this pad to be of good quality. I use it once every week or two and it has held up very well. It does slide down the withers a bit during the ride but for the most part it stays in place nicely. I would recommend it as a bare back pad and would buy it again if I needed to.
What is the underside made of? Is the girth of the same material?
A shopper on Jun 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Not sure - pad underside and girth are non-slip and squishy, kind of like an airform girth. May want to call a customer service rep. My horse does get hot underneath it when we use it, so the claim of it being breathable isn't entirely accurate.
Is it made for English or Western or even both?
ERIN R on Nov 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi,
Its a bareback pad, which is used for riding your horse without a saddle. It doesn't go under any saddle, English or Western. You just put it on the horse, cinch it up and get on and ride, just the way it is.
the bareback pads i have tried, slide back, and i even tried putting a rope girth,to try to keep it in place. Are there rings to put a breast collar on?
courtney m on Feb 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: There are rings up top that you could attach an English type breast collar to if you wanted, but I haven't found it necessary as this pad doesn't slip like ones I've used in the past. I used the rings on the top to attach a nightlatch to.
Can stirrups be used with this item?
Charity B on Nov 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No. We got bareback pads with stirrups before this purchase and they seemed unsafe and made the pad slip around . This bareback pad is the best one we have ever had. It is still used all the time. We got rid of all the others. Great quality. Fits all of our horses. Comfortable.
does this only provide extra comfort for the rider? or is there extra comfort for the horse that there isn't in the normal best friend's pad?
Valerie E on Oct 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm not really certain about the answer for the horse but we have two of these pads which we use on two different horses and we all seem happy with them...horses and riders. It certainly has more cushion than a traditional pad. We have found it to be a great value.
When will this product be back in stock? I ordered it over a month ago and it hasnt even shipped yet! Every few days they push the "estimated stock" day back. If I would have known it would take months to send I would not have ordered it. Very frustrating
A shopper on Feb 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We apologize -- it's frustrating for us as well. We receive in-stock dates from our suppliers for backordered items, but they are always estimated dates, and as you can see they may be pushed back. When stock comes in, we do fill backorders first.
Is this a pony bareback pad?
JoAnn M on Aug 26, 2013
BEST ANSWER: This is not pony sized, but it would probably be fine for a large pony. My horse has a short back and this works well for her. The girth/cinch should easily adjust to fit a large (maybe a medium) pony. The length of the pad across the top is 23" so you could measure the topline seam of one of your saddle pads and see if it's similar. Very comfy bareback pad!
Since most say the strap is one piece, how does it go through the pad itself? Is it comfortable for the horse?
Debbie S on Jun 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It appears that the strap runs INSIDE the pad and not against the horse's back. It has nice contouring and fits the curves of the horse's back well. The cinch has a roller buckle in each end to attach to the "billets" on each side, so there is plenty of adjustment. The pad itself is grippy and cushy to sit on. My only caution is that the cinch and the backing on the pad are neoprene (hard to find a good pad in fleece these days!), and my mare broke out in hives when I used it. If you have a horse with sensitive skin I would recommend wiping the underside of the pad off thoroughly before the first use, perhaps washing your horse's back and cinch area well when you finish your ride, or even placing a light liner pad beneath this bareback pad. I even changed out the cinch it came with for an old fleecy one I had. This is not to discourage you from this nice pad, but more FYI. Not every horse will have sensitive skin issues as mine does. Good luck and happy trails!
Does it have a strap to hang on to while riding?
Jill G on Mar 29, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No, it does not. But I teach kids and easily added a strap. It has 2 rings on it. You just need to purchase a strap for five or six dollars and buckle it on
Does this pad sit directly on the spine of the horse or are there pads that prevent contact with the spine?
CampsWithHorses on Sep 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It does sit on the spine, however, you don't tighten it like a saddle. You leave it loose with four finger space. The material that it is made of prevents it from spinning. I have a high whithered, pronounced spine OTTB, it does not rub or aggravate her back. It has enough cushion to displace my bony bottom and we are both very comfortable. It is my favorite pad.
Does it have a strap for rider to hold on?
Sabrina G on Apr 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, it does not, however there are rings in the front that you can run a leather strap through and make it possible to hold on. I personally would not depend on any bareback pad to hold on, you may consider a neck strap on your horse to hold on to as it would probably be safer. I hope this helps.
Can I use a different girth with this? I’d like to use one with a d ring for a breast collar.
E N on Jan 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You should probably check with the manufacturer, but for safety reasons,I would never use a breast collar with a bareback pad - with a breast collar, the horse's powerful chest and shoulder muscles could easily pull the pad to one side and off you go! We love these bareback pads - bought 5 of them to use with our horses which our 4-H and lesson kids ride. Just wish they came in different colors since we color-code all our tack to make tacking up more efficient for the kids'
Will this fit QH mare around 15 hh? And does it slip at all when you're trotting/cantering or jumping small jumps?
A shopper on Mar 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This is one size fits all but will fit your horse nicely. There is a lot of adjustments on the billits and if you needed to use it on a pony or draft, you can substitute a regular Western cinch in place of the one that comes with it for more sizing adjustments.

This is the best pad I have found for staying in place on the horse due to the location of the girth straps. My daughter rides for a bareback drill team and she practices in this twice a week. It rarely slips back at all, even when the horse is sweaty and they are jumping.
will it fit large pony?
A shopper on Jan 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm sure it would you will probably have to put it on the tightest holes in order for it to fit. My mare uses a 32" cinch on a western saddle and a 30" on a barrel saddle and this works great for her and I don't have it at the tightest hole.
Does it have a grab strap?
A shopper on Mar 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: There is not a grab strap-- but there are two metal rings on the top front where you could attach one like I did on my english saddle.
if i get the black pad could it absorb heat and make her sweat more??
A shopper on Apr 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: That's a good question. I live in Arzona and just love this pad altho I did get the blue. It is a bit darker than the photo shows. I can't see the black absorbing much more heat than the blue nor than a dark saddle pad for that matter.
is there a way to attach a breast collar?
A shopper on Mar 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Sorry for late response. No hook on the bottom but there are hooks on the top. We have never tried to attach anything other accessory to the pad. Sorry about that.
Can a stirrup be attached to it?
Monica D. on May 14, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I would only attach stirrups if the rider will be light and small. Bareback pads aren't designed to have stirrups attached as it adds discomfort to the horse, my thought. The strap on the sides tend to slip a bit but not a real issue. When my daughter uses the pad it is usually about for about 30 min to 45 min at a time. So far we like the pad.
Can you add stirrups?
Lisa E on Oct 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I wouldn't ever add stirrups to a bare back pad. It is not designed to have stirrups so adding them can cause a number of problems. 1 being a bare
