I bought one of these fly masks a few years ago to ride when the gnats are out and drive the horses crazy. But I lost it, so am ordering another one.

Susan J on Jul 30, 2018
Only ones that seem comfortable for trail riding. Would love it to come in white since black may attract some flies.

I have a Percheron gelding who has a large head and these fit him perfect and last a long time. My horses are rough on them but they last. GREAT fly masks that fit perfect.

Heidi P on May 7, 2018
The Cashel Fly Masks are the best. Fly season is in full swing in Central Texas and I needed a couple of new masks for some of my horses.

Protection from flies.
MARY V on Oct 31, 2017
I have had this fly mask before, and I chose it again because my horse only has one eye so his vision is reduced significantly. This fly mask has a very fine mesh that allows him better vision than most fly masks, and can be safely worn while riding him. It is actually the ONLY fly mask that I feel is safe for him to wear, while riding.
Laurie K on Jul 15, 2017
Well constructed design, ears are long enough for my 17hh thoroughbred. I like the fleece around the nose band. He's turned out in this and it's held up well to the season. The mesh is fine enough for me to feel comfortable with him staying in it all night. The nose band has a nice wide area that could be monogrammed or have a name stitched on. The ear pieces are a lightweight material that breathes well and dries quickly. Low profile to fit snugly under a bridle.
Tamarin G on Jul 13, 2017
light for horses
donna g on Jul 7, 2017
Lightweight and effective. My horse can see all those scary things along the sides of the trail through this dark mesh and I don't need spray to keep the insects off his face. This is a great product.
Susan T on Jun 30, 2017
To use on trail, there were a lot of bugs out there annoying my horser, this really helps!!
Simone S on Jun 21, 2017
it is really nice that these fly masks are translucent and the horses can easily see their surroundings. I will see how they hold up in the pasture
Kira B on May 9, 2017
I have used this product on other horses and I like the design and quality.
Linda H on May 1, 2017
for trail riding my small horse
LINDA N on May 1, 2017
I chose the fly mask because of the visibility and the mask can be worn over a bridle. Also, I know Cashel makes good products, so I trust them.
Jo P on May 1, 2017
soft and comfortable for horse on trail ride over bridle
Jeanine M on Aug 17, 2016
I liked the light mesh and hope my horse will be OK with this...we shall see.
Amy B on Jul 12, 2016
especially for riding and we have horseflies, deer flies, etc where we ride
Constance M on Jul 6, 2016
Because I care about my horses. There are allot of flys in the summer and they bother the horses eyes - much nicer ride when the horse is comfortable too.
Pam M on Jul 1, 2016
I liked the first one, but cut off the nose part
Joanne D on Jun 28, 2016
The first one I bought lasted two years, but now has a couple tears. I was happy, my horse was happy with the first one so I'm getting another

Brianna E on Feb 5, 2016
wanted to try it for my percheron
Sue M. B on Nov 17, 2015
Love these fly masks for turnout. They are lightweight and only have one horse who removes any mask you put on him.
Sharon B on Jul 21, 2015
My horse is a black and white TWH and SSH, with pink skin. The bugs and nosiums in Florida chew his ears continuously here. I love this fly mask because of the ear guards against these insects.
Keri C on May 23, 2015
Janice M on May 12, 2015
I need one with ears. My horse likes her face covered so I don't need to put fly spray on it.
Debby C on May 10, 2015
This should be a good flymask for horse camping and if bugs are really bad can ride in it.
Dee V on Feb 27, 2015
Cashel is a good product. Very soft on the horses face. They last forever.
Scott D on Jan 4, 2015

Lorraine L on Sep 12, 2018
Is the mesh thick enough to protect eye from being punctured?
Mrsha T on Jul 31, 2018
The mask is verya very light weigh mesh, so in my opinion it won’t protect from a puncture.
Good luck and have a great ride.
Is a black fly mask too hot in 80-90° weather ?
Sandy T on Jul 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, it is not hot because it is light weight and airy. Be sure to use it when riding your horse because it is not to be used when out in pasture.
what about fly mask on horses turned out to pasture, is it ok to leave the mask on at night, can they still see fences etc. when it's dark outside? or do they need to be removed each night?
Patti A on Jun 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I think most manufacturers recommend that you not leave fly masks on at night. Visibility, particularly with some of the most "sturdy" forms of fly masks can be reduced at night to almost zero.

I have found that the Cashel Quiet Ride mask affords the most visibility of any mask out there on the market and if you are going to leave a fly mask on at night, this one would be your best choice. It is a balancing act and you have to weigh the risks/benefits for yourself. If your horse is tormented by flies and gnats no matter what fly control products you apply, then it may be that there is less risk for YOUR horse with the mask than without. If your horse is not really bothered by insects in the evening and tears around your fields foolishly, then perhaps the mask at night is a bad idea.

Good luck with which ever decision you make.
does this fly mask come in pony size?
A shopper on Jul 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Arab is the smallest size available. Here is a link to the sizing chart to help you determine if that size will fit your pony:
Does this fly mask have a opening for the forelock so it can be pulled out through a hole?
A shopper on Jul 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it does. I love this mask for riding. The horse is so much more content keeping the flies off while riding.
will this fit my mules ears?
joan T on Jul 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Not sure. I bought the horse sized riding fly mask and it fit my National Show Horse perfectly. And if your donkey doesn't have a large warm blood sized head it might be too big. Good luck!
Is this item durable? I do a lot of trail riding, often times through very thick brush and branches, so I don't want to buy something that will tear too easily...
Diane H on May 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: it has held up nice for us but we do not ride through a lot of brush. It sure helps with buggy little flies and mosquitoes though.
Does it protect the eyes from UV rays?
Dianne M on Apr 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I don't believe it offers any UV protection--it just keeps the flies off the horse's face. Some fly sheets/masks keep the horse a bit cooler as well.
Where the mesh is soft does it lay on the horse's eyes?
Colleen l Z on Jul 29, 2014
BEST ANSWER: no, not really. It's sewn so it goes out where their eye is.Sometimes I pinch it out when I put it on just to make sure, but my horses wear them for regular fly masks in the pasture, as they are easier to see out of. They stopped trying to take the mask off when I started using this kind.
