Diamond Wool® saddle pads have a high percentage of wool content. To avoid shrinkage, do not use hot water to clean or heat to dry. Brush the pad occasionally with a curry brush. This will dislodge hair, dirt, and sweat to prolong its usefulness. Place in a well-ventilated area for efficient drying.
Machine-washing any Diamond Wool® saddle pad is not recommended. To clean pads, use a soft cloth/sponge, a mild shampoo or detergent-free soap, and tepid water. Slightly dampen the cloth or sponge and add a small amount of soap. Work up a small lather on soiled areas. Rinse with clean water. Allow to air dry.

I have a slightly swaybacked TWH mare that has been a bear to try to fit. I'm hoping this pad with it's shims will do the trick
Jessica K on Apr 16, 2018
I have a mare with a smaller right shoulder. While I'm getting her built back up, shimming is the only way to keep the saddle from sliding right. This is for her western saddle. Sure wish it came in purple.

Hard to fit horse. Have an Aussie pad with relief shims and it helps to fit my saddle. So, want a western pad as my saddle is western not Australian. You guys offered the best price and the added discount was...sweet addition! Reviews on this pad were good and I am hoping it solves my problems.

My twisted back was throwing my horse off to one side, while I watch where my weigh is I and had my horse adjusted I will be building up the muscles on one side to match the other. This product you can change how you adjust it. Also Diamond wool is a good brand, their wool product last longer than just regular wool.
Carle L on Sep 15, 2014
I purchased a blue one for my now 22 yr old AQH a few years ago. It is great quality and is nice to be able re-adjust as the horses body changes. My new AQH didn't need anything special for a blanket last year but at age 17 he is IR and he had to loose a lot of weight ,in the process his body has changed and he has lost his top line. I used my old boys pad on him and it fit great so I'm getting him his own. I like the boys to have their own tack except the saddle tho!
THERESA R on Jul 11, 2014

My saddle is pinching my horse’s shoulders. Would this pad help to eliminate that?
Aleigh W on Jun 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This pad helps to 'fill in' low spots so could potentially put the contact of the pad in the right place and lift it off shoulders. My horse is very barrel chested and wide in the shoulders, and when she was pregnant last year I bought this for the reasons I mentioned in the first sentence. I am still using it now even though she is in pre-preg condition because it fits so well. I'm very happy with it. I'd say it would be a good choice for what you're asking.
How thick is the pad it self?
A shopper on Jun 14, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I think it’s 1 inch. Then you add the shims as needed or you can use without any shims.
How many inches is it from front of pad to the first shim? I need shims that are set back
A shopper on Feb 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The front shim starts 3" back from the front of the pad.
Will the 30x30 fit a high withered OTTB with a short back??
Savannah W on Feb 5, 2019
BEST ANSWER: yes, I have short backed Missouri Fox Trotters and use it. I also cut the top part of the pad in front of the "O" for the wither. This accommodates the wither better imho. Gaited horses need their heads to have movement not sure why they made an O rather than a cutback.
Are the finished measurements 30x30 and 32x32?
Lefty on Jan 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: yes they are.. shorter backed horses use the 30
Does this pad work for moderate swayback?
A shopper on Nov 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Sorry I cannot answer your question, I got the pad for my old mule who is just rather bony on top, not sway back. But I am sure with the shims, it would work for you. I do like mine.
Do you have 26" pads?
A shopper on Oct 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The smallest it shows that they carry is 30 x 30, and that's what I have for our quarter horse. We love it. The flexibility of being able to adjust the shims to help with saddle fit makes this worth the price.
Does it come with the shims?
A shopper on Aug 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes it does come whit shims. This is a great quality pad. It is very high quality and I have had it for several years and it has held up excellent. Love this product. Would buy again and again.
Do the shims taper on the edges creating a smooth transition into the back or are they the full width all the way through creating bumps and hollow spots where the shim stops?
Jamie L on Jun 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The shims do not taper at the edges. They are the full width all the way around. However I have not found this to be an issue. It does not create a gap or significant bump. My saddle has a manufacturing defect that requires shims for proper fit and this pad has worked perfectly. Its my favorite for all the horses I ride.
I just purchased this pad and love the idea of it ! I also love the feel and quality. However, my mare is having some pinching of her skin at the seams of the pad where the shims are. Is this correctable ? If I need an underpad, what is the thinnest and won't slip ? thanks !
A shopper on Mar 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: In most cases when there are lines on the horse, the pad is too thick which is perhaps causing the saddle to be too tight with that particular pad on. This pad does not need to be used with a liner, but one can be used if desired.
Are the shims on this pad in the right area to correct bridging for a sway backed high withered older horse?
A shopper on Nov 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These pads can help with sway backed horse and high withers. The shims can be removed or added to adjust the saddle fit for many horses needs. You will most likely remove the rear shims and leave the middle and front ones in. When using the pad for the first time, please check the sweat pattern to make sure the pad is configured correctly for your needs.
Where do I get extra shims for this saddle pad?
Wendy L on Aug 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You can get them through Diamond Wool directly on their website if you google "diamond wool replacement shims"
I am looking at this pad in 1/2 so that when I use the shims it will be at 1" instead of 1.5". Any one have any experience with the difference between 1/2 and 1"?
Lisa T on Jun 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't have experience comparing a 1/2" and a 1", but if I understand your question correctly -- I don't think the thickness of the pad makes any difference as to the use of the shims. The shims fit in pockets and are in ADDITION to the (upper) surface of the pad. The thickness of the pad underneath does not change the amount of "shimming" - only the thickness (and placement) of the shims changes the contours of the pad.
Should I use a underpad with this?
trinity r on May 30, 2017
I don't use a underpad for this pad particularly but I do put another pad overtop for colour or showing. Just a super slim.
I love my pad and have had it for a few years and my friend has had hers for over 11 years (she's the one who introduced it to me) and still in great condition cause they are so durable.
In the picture and the name this pad says it is contoured yet one of your customers talks about the fact it is straight across the back. Which is it? Straight or contoured?
A shopper on Apr 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It will counture and the pads are awesome. I use it on my Morgan and my Quarter Paint. Two totally different backs and the pads even out the Morgan and provide extra protection for the withers on my Paint.
It is durable and working on it's third year with 0 issues.
Does this pad come in a bigger size than 32x32?
A shopper on Mar 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I'm not exactly sure, but I do not think so. I will say it's a great pad. I bought the non-contoured first, and realized I needed the contour, so I've bought two :) They are super versatile and I love that you can stuff the shims to correct small fit problems. Good luck!~ I'm not sure any of them are larger. Maybe the more expensive pads?
can you clean this pad in the washer with blanket wash?
Paula N on Oct 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Diamond Wool saddle pads are made from wool felt that has a high Wool content. To avoid shrinking, avoid hot water or heat during drying. Occasionally brush your pad with a stiff bristled brush. This will help dislodge hair, dirt and sweat, which will extend your pads useful life span. After use, your wool pad should be placed where it can air out and dry more efficiently.

To Clean Diamond Wool Pads
Use a soft cloth or sponge, a mild shampoo or detergent free soap (such as Ivory), and tepid water.
Slightly dampen the cloth or sponge and add a small amount of soap.
Work up a small lather on soiled areas.
Rinse with clean water.
Allow to air dry.
I just bought a new qh mare and my saddle is firm against her shoulders and after I rode her the dry spots that were left was on the shoulders and along the spine. Would this saddle pad be any help?
A shopper on Aug 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The pad is good for adjusting fit where there are small inconsistencies between the shape of the horse versus the shape of the saddle. You can make adjustments in various locations that help, including one side versus the other. However, it will likely not be able to compensate for the saddle fitting too tightly at the front. I had to find a saddle that was wider at the front in order to fit my QH mare comfortably. It can be difficult to fit properly in all areas. May be worth looking for someone in your area who makes and/or sells used saddles. You could perhaps get a good understanding from them what is needed to fit the horse to the point where they are comfortable and able to perform well. I found it helpful to see a variety of different tree shapes and sizes and the differences in fit.
Does this come with any shims?
A shopper on May 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Shims are included with every Diamond Wool Relief Pad. A complete set includes six - 1/2 inch thick shims. Two larger shims fir the middle pockets and four smaller shims for the front and rear pockets.
Are the front shim pockets big enough to hold 2 or 3 of the shims if needed?
Sylvia P on Oct 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi, Yes the pockets are big enough to hold at least 2 shims. I had to try different configurations to see what worked best for my boy, but with this pad I can use my western saddle with no problems. Bettie
I found this in our local tack store but it is 1/2" wool. Is the 1" with the shims or is this a different pad?
KYLIE H on Jul 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The company Diamond Wool has a 1/2" and a 1" option. It's probably the same pad just the 1/2" version.
My horse has low withers (almost mutton) and a high rise to his rump. I use wool felt, but get 2 dry spots behind his shoulder on both sides. My saddle fits and doesn't seem to bother him. would I take out the front and back shims and leave the middle ? I have the Chiropractor 1x a month to fix the same L5 right and left
anne f on May 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hello, I can not say for sure that would help with saddle fit etc. but I really like this pad since it does have the removable felt inserts. This pad has held up with lots of use and washing. I would talk with a saddle fitter for confirmation.
I have a 19 yr. old QH. He's well built but body is changing. Rather high withers and back is starting to sway. Would thus pad be a good choice?

BEST ANSWER: I own this pad and it's a great pad, but I don't think this is the answer to your problem. I have a horse that has a bit of a sway back, and I bought the Cashel swayback pad. It works great. Here is a link.
