Why did you choose this?
Statelinetack.com Store
I needed a good saddle soap for my tack. I often use Murphy's Oil Soap but this looked handy to tuck into the tack kit. Just a dab of water, use a sponge, clean up, dry cloth to smooth the finish.

Nothing works better for leather cleaning and reconditioning. I use this with their pure neatsfoot oil.

Does this darken tack? Also, can you use it on tall boots and half chaps?
A shopper on Dec 14, 2015
Best Answer: Hi fellow State Line Tack shopper, Your question,"will saddle soap darken my tack",the answer is: maybe - kind of . When leather is tanned and dyed at the factory a lot of chemical molecules are added to the leathers natural oils. When leather gets wet all these molecules get moved around . Now to prevent leather from drying out and cracking, you must add more chemical molecules. I have found saddle soap darkens leather 1/2 shade more than " Lexol Leather Conditioner " - which barely darkens at all . It is definitely not as dark as wet leather is ! These products are Not dyes and do Not have shiny varnishes. They just clean or preserver.
I use ' Lexol leather Cleaner " for my dirty boots, saddles leather back cinch , and breast collar, let dry, then use the conditioner.
For my saddle and other fine leather I just use the conditioner . A container of the Lexol will last years, not so for a can of saddle soap.
Repeated use of the soap, cleaner,or conditioner will Not turn your leather darker and darker.
All these products are more or less odorless, maybe a kind of odorless candle hint ,but is odorless on the leather ,the leather still has that great leather smell after use.
Thank You for your question , I hope this helps . Steven M. WA U.S.A. 12/16/2015
