by Equine Medical and Surgical Associates

Heave Ho is a natural nutritional supplement developed for horses suffering from breathing allergies, COPD, and coughing. It helps open airways, clear mucus, and stop coughing. Heave Ho was recommended by a veterinarian and it is a great product. I have a mare who has had respiratory issues and this supplement has helped tremendously and she is only on a very small dose daily. She has not been on prescribed steroids for a year now and she is back in full swing riding! I would definitely recommend this product.

So far, so good.
My horse has been cough free after about 6 weeks of being on Heave Ho. I hope it will keep him from coughing when the golden rod is in bloom mid to late summer. Price is high but I don't care since it seems to be working.

This product actually works
So far, I am very pleased with this product. I've tried many other "cough" medicines most of which did not work very well and the one that did work was a bit costly. My horse has been on Heave Ho now for 2 weeks. I took him out on the trail recently and he never coughed once. Normally, he would always cough while at a canter. Not this time. It was so nice being able to ride my horse at a canter and not have him coughing. It made for an enjoyable ride for both of us. The only problem I have is not being able to get this product at my local retail store (Tractor Supply, Agway, etc.). It would be so much easier running to my local Tractor Supply to pick this up rather than ordering it over the internet. It took almost a week before I received it through the mail.

My horse has summertime heaves. I'm going to try this product and hopefully avoid the vet this year.

This is the only supplement that really worked for me. I tried several others with no success. I have two mini horses with allergies and respiratory problems and this worked beautifully for them. It eliminated one mini's coughing entirely and the other one who is more severe greatly helped and I only hear him cough once in a while.

My old horse has heaves and this product eases her breathing and coughing, not completely, but it helps lessen her symptoms and makes life a bit better for her.

My horse is not coughing now but when ragweed and goldenrod appear she will start coughing, difficulty breathing, runny nose. Last year she was on antibiotics and steroids. Can I start her on this before the allergies start - while she is breathing ok?
Gail M on Jun 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I suggest you start now BEFORE symptoms begin. It takes up to a couple of months to get in the horse's system (as stated in ad copy) . I use it daily but also use some Air Power on occasion in his feed or on a little snack when it's extremely hot and humid if I hear him sort of sound like he's clearing his throat. (Hard to describe but you will recognize this when/if you hear it.) It doesn't take much but it stops the coughing almost immediately, sort of like a cough drop helps us.. I've been on rides when other horses coughing but he is not. Ventipulium syrup from Vet can be substituted for the Air Power. Good luck. I hope you are able to keep her off he steroids.
Is this safe for pregnant or nursing mares?
Ashli B on Oct 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello,

The label advises horse owners to consult with their veterinarian if their horse is pregnant or going to be bred. You can also try the manufacturer:Equinemedsurge. They have been responsive when I've asked them questions. Good luck!
