Stable sheets offer lightweight protection for your horse while he's in the barn, in the trailer, or as a liner layer under a waterproof blanket. Often stable sheets are the go-to the night before a show when your horse has been clipped and bathed to keep them free of stains and dust. For a warmer, thicker option, you might want a stable blanket for your horse. Still not waterproof or water-resistant, they are made from nylon and have a layer of polyfill like turnout blankets. They often are not as heavy-duty as turnout blankets since they don't need to stand up to mud, sticks, rocks, and other things that can tear the nylon.

You may wonder what the use is or why buy a horse blanket that isn't waterproof. One benefit is that with washing, waterproofing fades over time. By using stable blankets that aren't waterproof as liners or layers, you won't have to worry about waterproofing them in the years to come. Stable blankets are great to layer with and can easily be turned into a turnout with the addition of a waterproof sheet on top to protect them. Simply toss a stable sheet or blanket underneath a turnout sheet and maintain the water-resistance of the outermost layer! Another added benefit is that when your horse comes in from turnout with a soaking wet blanket on, simply peel it off and put on the warm, cozy, dry stable blanket in its place.
