I chose this product because a woman at my barn bought some for each of her horses, explaining that she got them because her horses were stomping consistently (and that they worked great) and since I have that same issue with my horse I figured it was a reasonable purchase. She directed me to the same company, so I bought it from here :)
Clare v on Aug 23, 2019
I've used them the past two fly seasons. Best fly protection I've found that don't cause rubs or slip down after a few weeks. Love them!
Lisa C on Aug 19, 2019
I was told they are the best
chris g on Jul 30, 2019
Using them for years. They are the best way to keep shoes on a horse. They don't have to stomp their feet to rid themselves of biting flies. They stay up and on.
Denise W on Jul 28, 2019
Never thought these would work but I use them on all my horses!! They are happy and not stomping all day..

This will be my second pair.....they work better than any other types I have tried.
Karen C on Jun 29, 2019
I have 4 horses and all wear shoo fly boots. They are by far the best investment in fly protection I've made over the years. They last for years, stay put, WORK, and cause no discomfort or rubbing. My horses wear them 24x7 all summer. I've washed and stored them for 4 years now, and my first set finally needs to be replaced. The not only give my horses comfort, they also protect from cracked hooves from concussion due to stomping from flies. I highly recommend this product.

Have used before and this is this horse's second pair. Protect from bugs but legs have air and can dry if wet outside.
Dianne D on Jun 23, 2019
I tried one pair just to see if they would really work.
They are great! They stay put & no rub. Easy to put on and off.
If you pick the bright color, they are easy to see in the pasture!
MARY H on Jun 23, 2019
they work. easy to put on. stay in place

These leggings are perfect and sturdy to keep the flies off my horses legs. They hold up well. My horse is hard on any leggings, and these stay on the best of all the ones I have tried.
Bruce J on Jun 10, 2019
This is the 4th set I have purchased. It eliminates that "stomp, stomp" from pesky flies on their legs. Holding up quite well, so far, and is easy to put on and easy to remove. I haven't washed them yet, but think that the should wash up well, if they get muddy.
Marcia F on Jun 7, 2019

betty s on May 29, 2019
We have used these Shoo Fly Leggins for several yeas and they are excellent for keeping flies off the horses lower legs. Keeps the horses from stomping. Have used them on our Quarter Horses and our Warmbloods. Have used the Large on the Warmbloods and the Medium on the Quarter Horses. It sometimes takes a while to figure out just how snug or how loose to make the lower band but after a few tries it is easy to get.
Lisa K on May 28, 2019
I used them last year. They lasted the full fly season and worked perfectly. They stay in place. I've tired other similar leg protection from flies and none have worked - Shoo Fly Leggins do. No Stomping!

Adrieanne M on Mar 28, 2019
I have had these before and they work wonderfully for my gelding who is extremely sensitive to anything touching his back legs. They protect the legs but still allow air flow, which is great in our humid Florida climate. Highly recommend.

Are the washable? Machine or otherwise?
Morgan D on Aug 9, 2019

What is in them to stop flies and mosquitoes. Chemical wise..?
Cindy M on Jul 22, 2019
BEST ANSWER: They are chemical free. I don't know how they work, but they do work to keep flies off of my horses lower legs. Bugs don't fly down the leggings. They last a long time too. I just replaced a set of leggings one of my horses has worn for 2 summers.
My gelding has consistently ripped to shreds (with his mouth) any boots I have ever left on him. What are the odds he would leave these alone?
Donna P on Jul 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have these leggings for my mare. She took some getting used to them. She likes to lie down a lot so occasionally she will Houdini her way out of a rear one. The velcro works very well but it does have a tendency to pick up things in the pasture. So you need to check them for cleaning that out. I am going to have to get some new ones soon because one problem I have noticed with them is that the metal inserts start to bend and it can create sore spots around the fetlocks. Also the felt wears down and there isn't a way to fix that without being a seamstress which I am not! Measurement is important too. My mare I think gets her foot stuck when she is getting up sometimes. Other than that she is fine with them.

What if my horse measures in between sizes? Do I go up or down in size?
A shopper on Jun 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I find these to run big and I down sized for all of my horses. My 16 h gelding wears a medium. There is a small amount of adjustment in the velcro where I just make them a bit tighter. Love these, they are amazing and really do keep the flys off their legs.

Do they work for trail riding?
Traci M on May 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: They work great on my horses when in the pasture grazing. I think trail riding would be too much activity. You would have to see how your horses react to them. My horses do "high" stepping when I first put them on.
Do you have any photos, which shows them on the horse?
John W on May 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: no, but they taper up getting wider toward the knee and are not made to fit snugly. We're pretty sold on them doing some good anyway.
Can be used for field boarded horses 24-7?
A shopper on May 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: My horse’s roam in the day and are in stalls at night. I remove fly sheets and boots at night. If you leave them on 24/7, the shoo fly’s rip along the spine of the leggings. These are great, but you’ll need to patch them a lot if you leave them on 24/7.
(Shoo Fly Leggins) How do these hold up in rainy weather? My mare is on pasture board and we're in a temperate rain forest, so it rains almost daily, which makes other boots irritate her legs (they stay wet). Would these still work? Are they ineffective in mud? Thanks.
A shopper on May 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: These are amazing! My mare is also out 24/7 on pasture board and they hold up great. She is half Clydesdale, so I worry about her getting scratches with her feathers and last year she didn’t have any problems at all. They stand up straight and taper out as they go up the leg so plenty of air is able to circulate as well as it being a durable mesh-type fabric that is breathable. If the mud is super deep, you might have an issue, but just some everyday mud you should t have an issue. Honestly I don’t think I’ll use any other ones after how well she did with them last year. Only drawback is because she wears them essentially all day everyday for the summer, they only last about a season. Hope this helped!
Have 16hand horse but when I measure his legs I get measurements for a medium size. What do a order?
Jana S on May 8, 2019

Can you place these leggings above the carpus?
A shopper on Aug 4, 2018

A shopper on May 21, 2018

Are they waterproof? I HAVE HAVE A mare that loves to play in her watertrough.
Miryam S on May 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: With the exception of the faux-wool binding at the bottom of the legging (goes around the pastern), these are plastic mesh and waterproof. The faux-wool gets wet, but because Shoo Fly Leggins aren't tightly velcro-closed (like you have to do with other fly leggings), there is space for it to dry off AND, more importantly, it hasn't chafed my mare's leg while drying off. I do spray them off to keep as much mud and dirt as possible off of them, just like I would do with anything my horse wears. The plastic mesh material is well-chosen in this application. The material used is tough, but pliable. It stands up to the scrub oak in our pasture MUCH better than other fly leggings I've tried. It must have a good UV stabilizer and/or plasticizer to keep the material supple and retain color in pasture conditions. Some serious thought went into these.
