Little big
The large has stretched out a little on my 16.2, 1200 lb OTTB. Would go medium next time. But it’s serving it’s purpose so all good :)

good for shoulder fur, but the trade-off was mane
Nice fit and feel.
Solved the shoulder rub problem, but now she is missing some mane hair, so I use it sparingly.

nice shoulder guard
I have a super narrow OTTB gelding and I have tried 3 different winter blankets on and all 3 rubbed his point of shoulder should I purchased this shoulder guard. It does stay in place and he doesnt seem to mind. The fit is nice too.

Great product but didn't work for my horse.
Sleazy too snug of a fit for my horse--bought it to prevent his blanket rubbing hair off his shoulder. But, it didn't work--have used a light, loose fitting 'windbreaker' material shaped like the Sleazy and that has worked well

Don't buy this
This particular Sleazy does not have the strap that goes underneath between the legs, providing absolutely no protection from chafing because it rides up. Don't bother purchasing this product.

Great for more than advertised for
The shoulder Guard's fit is a bit loose I would advise going down a size otherwise it's a great addition to your horses wardrobe. I use it as intended, a guard against rub from winter turnout blankets but I also use it as a lightweight wind weather guard when it's dry outside but cold and don't want or need a full blanket. It works great as a little added warmth especially for a horse who objects to big full blanket. My 33 year old leopard Appy, Dancer, objects to blanketing but tolerates his new shoulder guard. It gave him an added layer between the sub zero temperatures and winds

Just what I was looking for, more size options?
Great product, seems to work well. I got the smallest size possible, and could have used a size smaller, so it fits my horse okay, but not perfectly. The package lists more size options, but those weren't available on the site.

Great product
I bought this for my dressage mare, who I clip (trace or bib-style) in the winter, and therefore needs blankets/sheets to be comfortable here in CO. She is a TB/Holsteiner cross, with the signature shark-fin TB withers, a big shoulder, and heavy neck, at 15.3hh, around 1100lb. I bought the medium in purple and it fits really well, considering her conformational issues. This shoulder guard is pretty adjustable, too, which makes it that much better to fit to her. Great product to prevent shoulder rubs on blanketed horses. She isn't hard on blankets, so I expect this to last for the whole season at least.

My horse's fly sheet is rubbing the hair off his shoulders and chest. So to keep him in show ready condition I am adding a shoulder guard.

What size horse is considered a medium? My horses wear between 72-74 blanket. Thanks
Hilarie on Feb 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I think my mare wears a size 72 blanket. She's a 15.3HH, average built TB weighing about 1130 lbs. It fits just fine. There is velcro to adjust around the neck and it's adjustable under the belly. I really like this guard. It's protected her withers and shoulders from developing rub marks.
Is this product durable enough for itchy horses that tend to rub their neck areas on trees? If, not, any suggestions? Also, how do you install this item on the horse? Over the head and thru the front legs? Any straps underneath? Easy to take on and off? Not using blankets much in FL so blanket rubbing is not the real problem as we remove the blankets in the AM daily. Thanks!
A shopper on Feb 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would not recommended for itchy horses. The material seems to rub through easily. You install them over the head and there is Velcro that attaches behind the front legs. I also find this easy to remove and put on. I use this on my horse under her winter blanket. Material is very thin and spandex material. There is also a velcro strap at the neck area you can tighten if needed. I hope this is helpful.
what size would fit a 1200 thoroughbred cross???
isabelle k on Oct 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I bought one a couple of years ago for my elderly mare, size large. She is about 1100lbs and it is a bit large on her. Large should fit your horse fine. It does keep them from rubbing off their hair over the shoulder and adds an extra layer where it helps keep them warmer. I'm happy with mine.
I have a 16.3 TB who wears a size 75" blanket - what size would fit him? I've heard both medium and large...
Katie F on Jan 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If he is broad chested go for a large. Just check if this product has a band that goes between the front legs to secure it to the belly band. I got one without that piece and it rides up all the time on my horses chest.
Does the shoulder guard have a band that hooks together under the belly?
Mardha B on Jan 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, there are two elastic bands that wrap under the belly and secure with Velcro.
My mare's blanket does not rub her shoulders but a bit at the base of her neck and also wears her mane off just above her withers. I am concerned this product will also rub her mane?
A shopper on Mar 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: My geldings blanket rubbed him at the base of his neck. That is why I bought the sleazy. I put it under his blanket. It prevents the blanket rub. Great buy
my paint mare is 14.2hands. will medium fit her?
A shopper on Mar 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I used to have an Arab which I'm sure I bought a medium for. I don't remember choosing purple but the last one I bought for a larger Quarter Horse was a large. My Arab was 14 -1 a 1/2 and I bought a medium for him.
My horse sunburns in this area. Would this material be cool enough to leave one on him during the hot temps?
Joann C on Jun 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately you'd have to try it out to know for sure. It's not a "cool" material, but it is only over the shoulder area. You might wish to consider a full-size fly sheet with UV protection instead?
How to fit shoulder guard?
A shopper on Oct 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Stateline has a good picture of how it fits, but basically it goes over their head and has a velcro 'girth' that you can adjust...the girth sits where your normal girth would rest. It fits real snug, but obviously is stretchy. Hope that helps!
it shows lime green, but doesnt list it. Is it available?
Carol G on Sep 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately the lime green is discontinued and sold out.
My blankets are the "snuggit" designs, high cut on the neck, in front of the withers...does this go up far enough on the neck for the?
A shopper on Jun 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes for the most part however I would say it depends on how broad shouldered and high withered your horse is as to how much coverage will be achieved. Good product overall.
